Sidebar Links adds groups of links, called sections, to your website's home page or footer, to your members' site map or to your admins' Home page. Go to Content > Configurations > Sidebar Links, add a section and choose where it shows in Display Location, then add links to it. Check Visible on the section and on each link, or they stay hidden.
Applies to: Org admins whose role includes Sidebar Links · All plans · Legacy content editor
Where: Content > Configurations > Sidebar Links
Where a section shows (Display Location)
Each section has one Display Location. It decides where the section's name and its links appear:
| Display Location | Where the section shows |
|---|---|
| Left | Your home page, in the left column of the News & Links section. If Show Left Sidebar is Yes on Schedules > Configurations > General, your schedules list is above it. |
| Right | Your home page, in the right column of the News & Links section, below your location conditions if you show them. |
| Bottom | The footer of every page on your website, as a column with the section's name above its links. |
| Split Display | Your home page, in a Split Display whose Left Home Page Section or Right Home Page Section is Links. |
| User Site Map | Your members' site map: the page people see after they sign in on your website, next to groups such as My Account. |
| Admin Site Map | Your admins' Home page, the admin start page. Every admin of your organization sees the section there, after TeamSideline's own groups. |
Left and Right show only if your home page has the News & Links section, and Split Display only if it has a Split Display set to Links. Your home page's sections are listed on Content > Configurations > Home Page Layout.
Step 1: Add a section
- Go to Content > Configurations > Sidebar Links.
- Click Add Section.
- In Section Name, type the heading people will see above the links (up to 25 characters).
- In Display Location, choose where the section shows (see the table above).
- Check Visible. Leave it unchecked if you'd rather add the links before anyone sees the section.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: "The Section was successfully created." The section is in the list, with its Display Location beside its name.
Step 2: Add links to the section
- Click Add Link.
- In Link Type, choose what the link opens: URL, Page, Download, Entry Form or Features.
- In Link Name, type the words people will click (up to 30 characters). Short names fit a sidebar column best.
- Fill in the box for your Link Type:
- URL: in Link URL, paste the full web address, beginning with http:// or https://.
- Page: in Page, choose a page on your website. The list has your menu pages and your Standalone, User Secured and Admin Secured pages, in name order.
- Download: in Download, choose a file from your Downloads page. Files are listed by category and name.
- Entry Form: in Entry Form, choose the form.
- Features: in Features, choose Contact Us, Schedules or, when your organization has registration, Boundary Lookup.
- In Assigned Section, choose the section you added in Step 1.
- Check Visible ("Check to show link in Assigned Section.").
- In Open in New Window, choose Yes to open the link in a new browser tab, or leave it at No.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: "The link was successfully created." Expand the section in the list to see its links. Repeat these steps for each link.
Change, hide, reorder or delete sections and links
- Edit a link: click its Edit icon (pencil). You can change Link Name, Link URL, Visible ("Check to show link on Public site.") and Open in New Window. Click Save. The Link Type can't be changed: to point a link at a different page, file, form or feature, delete it and add it again.
- Edit a section: click its Edit icon to change Section Name or Display Location, then click Save.
- Hide or show: click the eye icon. A green eye means it shows on your website; a red eye means it's hidden. Hiding a section hides all of its links.
- Reorder: drag a section or a link up or down in the list. Your website shows sections and links in this order.
- Move a link to another section: drag it onto that section, or onto a link in it. Then check the link's eye icon: a moved link can come out hidden, with Open in New Window set to No. Click the red eye to show it, and edit the link if it should open in a new tab.
- Delete: click the red X and confirm. Deleting a section takes it and all of its links off your website.
What you'll see on your website
Each visible section shows its name with its visible links under it, in the place its Display Location names and in the order of your list. A section shows only when it's visible and has at least one visible link. Changes show the next time the page is loaded.
If it doesn't work
- "Section Name is required." or "Display Location is required." Fill in both, then click Add.
- "You must enter a Section Name." You cleared the name while editing a section. Type a name and click Save.
- "You must enter a Link Name." Type the words people will click.
- "You must enter a Link URL." or "The Link URL is not valid." Paste the full address, beginning with http:// or https://.
- "You must select a Page to add.", "You must select a Download to add." or "You must select an Entry Form to add." Choose an item in the list for your Link Type.
- "Assigned Section is required." Add a section first (Step 1), then choose it in Assigned Section.
- The file you want isn't in the Download list. Add it on Content > Downloads first. A file you've hidden there isn't listed either.
- The page you want isn't in the Page list. Add it on Content > Configurations > Site Pages and click Save. Page groups (drop-down menus) and archived pages aren't listed.
- A section doesn't show on your website. Check that the section's eye and at least one of its links' eyes are green, and that its Display Location is the one you want. For Left and Right, your Home Page Layout needs the News & Links section; for Split Display, a Split Display with Links as one of its sections.
- A link disappeared after you moved it to another section. Click its red eye to show it again.
- A link to a page stopped working after you renamed the page. Renaming a custom page gives it a new address. Delete the link and add it again.
- Your organization's new Editor 2.0 website is live. Visitors are now sent to the new website, so Left, Right, Bottom and Split Display sections no longer show. Admin Site Map and User Site Map sections keep working.
- You can't open Sidebar Links. Your admin role doesn't include it. Ask an admin who manages your website.
Good to know
- There's no Admin Only setting. To give links to your admins only, put them in a section whose Display Location is Admin Site Map. Every admin of your organization sees that section on Home. To make a page itself admin-only, see the Admin Secured Pages article below.
- A User Site Map section is seen only by people who have signed in, but it doesn't hide the pages it links to: anyone with a public page's address can still open it.
- To link to something from inside a page's text instead, use the Links drop-down in Content > Page Edit.
- If your website uses Editor 2.0, add links for your admins' Home page or your members' site map on Content > Configurations > Site Links. It offers the Admin Site Map and User Site Map locations only.
