Open the link you were sent, choose an amount, enter your name, email address and card details, and click Donate. You don't need a TeamSideline account, and your receipt arrives by email.
Applies to: Donors (no TeamSideline account needed) · TeamSideline Raise · Crowdfunding campaign pages and players' Peer-to-Peer pages
Where: The Raise donation page link that the organization, or a player's family, shared with you
Make a donation
- Open the link the organization or player shared with you. It works in any web browser, on a phone or a computer.
- Under "Choose an amount", click an amount, or type your own in the "Enter custom amount" box if the page has one. When the page shows suggested amounts, one is already selected as it opens, so check it before you give.
- Enter your name and email address in the "First name", "Last name" and "Email for receipt" boxes.
- Optionally, type the name to show publicly in "Display my donation as (optional)", such as "The Smith Family," and add a note to the organization of up to 200 characters in "Leave a message (optional)".
- To keep your name off the public page, check "Make my donation anonymous", if the page offers it.
- Enter your card details: the cardholder's name ("Card Holder"), the card number, the expiration date ("MM/YY"), the "CVV" and the card's "Zip code".
- Check the amount. If the organization passes a processing fee on to donors, a line above the button shows the fee and your total: "+ $[fee] processing fee · $[total] total".
- Click the Donate button, which shows your amount, such as "Donate $50".
What you'll see
- A thank-you page, "Thank you, [name]!", with your donation, any processing fee and the amount charged to your card, the organization's thank-you message, the campaign's progress, and buttons to share the page.
- Your receipt by email, usually within a few minutes, with a subject that starts "Order Confirmation". It shows the order, the card payment, "Donation: [campaign name]", any processing fee and the total, plus Donation Details: the organization, the campaign, the player for a gift through a player's page, your name (or the display name you chose) and your message. Replying to it reaches the organization.
- If the organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the receipt shows its EIN and says your gift is tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Every receipt says "No goods or services were provided in exchange for this contribution."
Privacy and security
- You type your card details into secure Payrix payment fields. Neither the organization nor TeamSideline sees your full card number.
- If the page lists recent supporters, it shows the name you chose to display (or your name), the amount, and how long ago you gave. If you give anonymously, it shows "Anonymous."
- Anonymous gifts are anonymous to the public only. The organization still sees your name, email address and message, and your receipt shows your name or the display name you chose.
- Your message isn't shown on the page. It's on your receipt and on the organization's copy.
- If your email address is already on a family account with this organization, the donation is added to that account, and every adult on the account with an email address gets the receipt.
If it doesn't work
- "Please choose a donation amount." Pick an amount or type one.
- "The minimum donation is $1." or "The maximum donation is $10,000." Change the amount. The limits apply to the donation, not to the processing fee.
- "A donation amount can have at most two decimal places." Remove the extra digits.
- "A first name is required.", "A last name is required.", "An Email Address is required." or "Invalid Email Address." Fill in or correct that box.
- "We are sorry but one or more characters you entered in the First Name field could not be accepted." (or the Last Name field) Remove any ampersand (&), percent sign (%), semicolon (;), equals sign (=) or backtick (`) from your name. The "Display my donation as" box accepts them.
- Your card was declined. The message comes from the card processor. Check the card number, expiration date, CVV and zip code, or try another card.
- "Credit Card Type selection is invalid." The organization doesn't accept that type of card. Use a different card.
- "The payment gateway is currently unavailable. Your credit card has not been charged." Nothing was charged. Try again later, and let the organization know if it keeps happening.
- "Your donation was received and your card was charged. Thank you." Your donation went through, but no receipt was sent. Don't donate again; contact the organization if you need a receipt.
- "This campaign has ended. Thank you for your support." The campaign is closed and can't take donations. Contact the organization if you'd still like to give.
- "This donation page is not available." The campaign isn't open right now (it hasn't started, or it's paused), or the player's page is no longer active. Check with whoever sent you the link.
- The page shows the campaign but no way to give, and no ended message. The campaign isn't set up to take donations right now. Let the organization know.
Common questions
Why was I charged more than my donation? The organization passes card processing fees on to donors. The fee and total were shown before you gave and on the thank-you page, and the fee doesn't count toward the goal.
Is there a minimum or maximum? Yes. Each donation must be between $1 and $10,000.
I didn't get a receipt. Search your email for "Order Confirmation" and check your spam or junk folder. If it's not there, ask the organization to resend it.
How do I get a refund or change my donation? Contact the organization you gave to. Only they can issue a refund.
Is my donation tax-deductible? That depends on the organization's tax status. Ask the organization or your tax adviser.
Can I give to the whole team instead of one player? On a player-page campaign, every gift goes through a player's page, and each one counts toward the team's campaign total.
Can I give more than once? Yes. Each donation is charged and receipted on its own.
