How to buy or renew a membership
- Sign in on your organization's website.
- Go to My Account > Place Order, or click Cart in the menu.
- In I would like to, choose Buy or Renew a Membership. If memberships are all you can add, the membership fields appear without this choice.
- In Enrollee, choose the person the membership is for. To add someone to your account, click Add Enrollee.
- In Membership, choose the membership.
- In New/Renew, choose New, or Renew followed by the membership number of one this person already has (see the table below).
- In Offering, choose the option you want.
- Click Add. You see "Your membership enrollment has been added to your Cart."
- Click Proceed to Checkout. On the membership's page, choose the Membership Option if it asks, accept the membership's terms if it has any, and click Done.
- Complete checkout and pay. The membership is listed on My Account > Memberships.
| Choose | When | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| New | This person doesn't have this membership yet, or theirs ended more than one term ago. | A new membership starts today. |
| Renew (membership number) | The membership is current or ended recently. | The new term is added to the current Expiration Date, so renewing early doesn't cost you any time. |
Because a renewal adds the term to the old Expiration Date, renewing a membership that ended more than one term ago can leave it still expired. Choose New in that case. A membership that ends on a date your organization sets gets the same end date either way.
How to see your memberships
- Sign in and go to My Account > Memberships. This item appears once your account has a membership.
- Read the table: Active, Member, Membership, Membership Number, Member Since, Expiration Date, Auto Renew and Credit Card.
A Group membership covers everyone on your account. An expired or canceled membership stays on the list, with Active unchecked.
Automatic renewal
- When Auto Renew is checked, the membership renews by itself. About five days before the Expiration Date you get an email titled "Upcoming Membership Auto-Renewal Notification".
- The day after the membership expires, the card shown in the Credit Card column is charged the option's current price (plus a processing fee, if your organization charges one), and the membership is extended.
- If the charge fails, you get an email titled "Membership Renewal Payment was not processed", and the charge is tried again about every two days. After the third failed try, automatic renewal stops. Update your card (below) to keep it going.
- Automatic renewal needs a card on file. If you paid another way, such as by check, renew the membership yourself before it ends, or ask your organization.
How to update the card for automatic renewal
- Go to My Account > Memberships.
- In the Credit Card column, click (change) next to the card.
- Under Updated Billing Information, enter the cardholder's name, address, Phone and Email.
- Under Updated Credit Card Information, enter the new card.
- Click Update Payment. You see "Membership payment method updated."
The (change) link appears only when a card is on file, and Update Payment works only for an active membership that renews automatically.
Canceling a membership
Only your organization can cancel a membership or turn off its automatic renewal; your account has no cancel option. Contact your organization before the renewal date if you don't want to be charged again.
If it doesn't work
- Buy or Renew a Membership isn't offered. Your organization isn't selling memberships on their own right now. Some memberships come only with a program registration: they're added to your cart when you register for a program that requires one.
- "Your account owes an existing balance of $… that has not been paid. You need to pay this balance before you can place more orders." Pay your balance first, then add the membership.
- "This membership selection already exists in your cart." It's already in your cart for that person.
- "Please select an enrollee.", "Please select a membership.", "Please select a new or renew option." or "Please select an offering." Choose that field, then click Add again.
- "Membership Option selection is required." On the membership's page, choose an option before clicking Done.
- "You must check the Agreement box to show you agree to the "(name)" Terms in order to enroll for this Item." (or "…sign the Agreement box…") Accept or sign the membership's terms.
- There's no Memberships item in My Account. Your account doesn't have a membership yet.
- There's no (change) link, or Update Payment is grayed out. No card is stored for that membership, or it isn't active or doesn't renew automatically. Contact your organization.
- "A zip code is required." Enter a five-digit zip code. "Credit Card Type selection is invalid." Your organization doesn't accept that type of card; use another one.
Good to know
- When you register someone for a program that requires a membership and they don't have a current one, the membership is added to your cart with the registration.
- Questions about a membership's price, length or a refund go to your organization.
