Auto Coach Scoring emails a "Score This Game" link to each team's Primary Email and Alternate Email on the division's 2 Teams page (and to its coaches when Who Scores Game is All Staff) shortly after the game starts, or the number of days later you choose, plus up to two reminders. If a coach didn't get one, check the team's emails on 2 Teams and the System Log, then use Resend Scoring Requests or enter the score yourself.
Applies to: Org admins and schedulers · Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans (Auto Coach Scoring) · League and tournament divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > 1 Configuration > Scoring (settings), 2 Teams (team emails) and Edit Scores (Resend Scoring Requests); Communications > Communication Logs > System Log
When the emails are sent
- 1st Request: the set number of days after the game's start time. 0 means shortly after the game starts, not after it ends.
- 2nd Request and 3rd Request, when checked: the set number of days after the previous request, marked ***2nd Request*** or ***3rd Request***, and only to teams that haven't reported yet.
- Auto Accept One Score (Both Teams only): when one team reported and the other didn't, the reported score is posted the set number of days after the last request. This applies to regular-season games, not playoff games.
- Only games from the last 15 days get requests. If you turn Auto Coach Scoring on mid-season, unscored games from the last 15 days get one; older games don't.
- A game that already has a result (Played, a forfeit, Canceled or Score not kept) gets no request. After a team reports, it gets no more emails for that game.
- If you reschedule a game, its requests start over after the new game time.
The email's subject is "SCORE YOUR GAME | (home team) vs. (away team) | (your organization)". It lists the game's time, date, location and division, and its Score This Game link opens a scoring page that doesn't need a sign-in. Replies go to a no-reply address, so coaches must use the link.
Who gets them
| Recipient | Gets the email |
|---|---|
| Primary Email of the team's contact on 2 Teams | Always, for each team asked to score |
| Alternate Email of the team's contact on 2 Teams | Always, when filled in |
| The Coach and Assistant Coach on the team's roster | Only when Who Scores Game is All Staff |
- Which Team Scores Game decides which teams are asked: Both Teams and Either Team ask both teams; Home Team or Away Team asks only that team. With Both Teams, scores must match to post.
- If a team's Primary Email is blank, that team gets no scoring email at all, not even at its Alternate Email or, with All Staff, to its coaches.
Why an email might not arrive
- Check the settings. On the division's 1 Configuration > Scoring, make sure Enabled is Yes and Which Team Scores Game includes the team.
- Check the team's emails. On 2 Teams, click the edit icon for the team and check Primary Email and Alternate Email. A red flag next to an address means it has an email filter and TeamSideline isn't emailing it.
- Check the System Log. Go to Communications > Communication Logs > System Log, set the Date Range to include the game, enter the coach's address in To Address and click Update. No row means no email was sent; a value under Filter Type means it was held back by an email filter.
- Send it again or score it yourself. After fixing an address, open the division's Edit Scores and click Resend Scoring Requests, or collect the score and enter it on Edit Scores.
What you'll see: "Scoring requests resent to "Scoring in progress" games." New requests go to the teams' current addresses for games in the division that are Scoring in progress and still missing a team's score. Games more than 15 days old aren't resent; enter those scores yourself.
If it doesn't work
- No request went out for any game. The division's schedule must be visible on your public page (its visibility icon on Leagues & Divisions isn't red) and its league active. If the schedule was changed in the last hour, requests wait until an hour after the change.
- A coach says they didn't get it. Ask them to search for "SCORE YOUR GAME" in spam and junk folders. If the System Log shows no email to them, they aren't the team's Primary Email or Alternate Email, or Who Scores Game is Team Contact.
- "Scoring is not available. Please contact your organization." The Lock Scoring days (counted from the game's start) have passed. Enter the score yourself, or raise Lock Scoring on 1 Configuration > Scoring.
- "The Schedule has been updated after this 'Score This Game' email was sent. Please check for another follow-up 'Score This Game' email." The schedule was rebuilt after the email went out, so its link no longer works. Use Resend Scoring Requests or enter the score.
- "The Game has already been scored either by the coaches or an administrator." The game already has a result. Change it on Edit Scores if it's wrong.
- "Coach scoring has been disabled for this schedule." Auto Coach Scoring is off for the division.
Good to know
- Adding or correcting an email doesn't resend anything by itself. The next reminder (2nd or 3rd Request) goes to the new address, or click Resend Scoring Requests.
- In a league linked to a registration program, the team's 2 Teams contact fills in automatically from the first Coach you assign to the team with Assign To Roster, if the contact is blank (Alternate Email isn't filled). In other leagues, enter contacts on 2 Teams yourself.
- On Edit Scores, an icon next to a team shows that its coach reported; hover over it to see the score they sent.
- To set Who Scores Game (Team Contact or All Staff) for several divisions at once, use Update Multiple Divisions on Schedules > Leagues & Divisions. Schedules > Configurations > Sport Defaults sets the starting value for each sport's new divisions.
- Auto Coach Scoring is part of the Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans.
