TeamSideline organizes every schedule in three levels: a league (one sport in one season), the divisions in it, and the teams in each division. Each division has its own teams, schedule, standings and settings. A league is either schedule-only, added on Schedules > Leagues & Divisions, or registration-linked, created by a registration program that then controls its name, season and sport.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans (Copy Season, Update Multiple Divisions and Single Games divisions: Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise; Cross Division: Elite and Enterprise; Tournament divisions: Tournament module) · Schedule-only and registration-linked leagues

Leagues, divisions and teams
| Level | What it is | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| League | A sport and a season. Its row on Leagues & Divisions starts "League:" and shows its name, season and sport. | Add League (League Name, Sport Type, and a Season by year or by start date), or a registration program. |
| Division | A group of teams that play each other, in one league, with its own 1 Configuration settings, 2 Teams, 3 Time Slots and 4 Create Schedule pages and its own standings. | Add Division (Division Type, League, Division Name, Gender, Age Group and Level Of Play), or Add Division on a registration program's Assign To Roster page. |
| Team | A team in one division, listed on that division's 2 Teams page with its contact. | See Where teams come from, below. |
A division you add on Leagues & Divisions starts hidden from your website, with your Sport Defaults for its league's sport (Schedules > Configurations > Sport Defaults). Its Age Group list comes from the league's sport.
Schedule-only and registration-linked leagues
- Schedule-only league: one you add with Add League. You rename it, change its season or calendar colors, archive it or delete it on its League Edit page (the pencil in its row).
- Registration-linked league: created when a registration program is added (camp programs don't create one). Its row also has an orange Linked Program icon and a blue Linked Rosters icon. Each time the program's 1 Setup page is saved, the league takes the program's name, season, sport and archived state, so on League Edit those fields and Delete are grayed out and there's no Archive section: change or archive the program instead. Which league a program uses can't be changed.
A registration program's roster pages, such as Assign To Roster, work only with the divisions and teams in the program's own league.
Division types
Choose the Division Type when you add the division. A type your plan doesn't include is grayed out ("Disabled options are part of an upgraded package.").
- Standard: a league division that plays a full schedule. All plans.
- Tournament: pool play and brackets. Tournament module.
- Cross Division: two divisions whose teams play each other; type the second division's name after "cross with". Elite and Enterprise plans.
- Single Games: games added one at a time, with no full schedule. Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans.
On Leagues & Divisions, an icon before the division's name marks a Cross Division, Tournament or Single Game division.
Where teams come from
- 2 Teams page: Add Team and Add Placeholders, in schedule-only leagues and individual registration programs' leagues. In Team Registration leagues both are grayed out, because each team registration adds its team.
- Assign To Roster (individual youth or adult registration): Add Team and Add Division, then drag players and coaches onto the teams.
- Team registration: each team registration adds its team, which goes into a division through the offering's Auto Placement setting or with Assign Teams on the program's 4 Rosters tab.
- Imports and copies: the Team Import on Administration > Import Data, and Copy Season with Copy Teams ticked.
Copy Roster (2 Teams > View Roster) copies another team's schedule roster, the players used for stats. It creates no registrations, so it can't move registered players into a registration program.
Organizing leagues and divisions
- Move a division to another league: drag the division's row by its handle onto a row of the other league, such as the league a new program created. It moves with its teams and schedule and gets a new short link for its public page. A division missing from its league may have been dropped into another league or season: drag it back. A division moved out of a registration program's league no longer appears on that program's roster pages.
- Reorder: drag a division's row within its league; Update League Order sets the order of leagues on your public site.
- Reposition Teams (the arrows icon in a league's row) moves teams between the league's divisions.
- Copy Season (Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise) copies a season's leagues and divisions, and with Copy Teams their teams, into a new season. The new divisions get your Sport Defaults, not the copied divisions' settings.
- Archive Season archives every current league of one season.
- Update Multiple Divisions (Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise) changes settings or visibility for many divisions at once.
- The eye icon shows or hides a division's schedule on your website, and right-clicking a division's row opens the same menu of its pages as the More Options icon.
Find a team: Schedules > Search
Search by Tm Contact First Name, Tm Contact Last Name or Team Name (at least three characters, matched from the start), Phone, Email Address or Game Number. Tick Archived Leagues to include them. In the results, the contact's name opens Edit Team and the team's name opens the division's Standings page for that team.
If it doesn't work
- "This League name is in use. Please use a different League name." Another current league has that name for the same season. Choose another name or season.
- "This Division name is in use. Please use a different Division name." Another division in that league has the name.
- "Cross Division Name is required." Type the second division's name after "cross with".
- "The division cannot be deleted because there are existing roster assignments." Players are assigned to its teams through a registration program. Move or remove those assignments first.
- A league's name, sport and season are grayed out. It belongs to a registration program; change the program's 1 Setup page.
- "Please enter at least three characters." On Schedules > Search, type at least three characters of a name.
Good to know
- Divisions have no grade setting. Grade checks (Programs > Configurations > Custom Grade Validation) apply to registrations, so on a schedule-only site, name a division for the grades it combines.
- A division dragged into a league you added on Leagues & Divisions leaves its program's rosters, teams and all. To run a second league for the same registrations, add that league through a registration program too.
- Choosing how a division's schedule is built (Standard, Custom, Auto Assign or Manual) is covered in the scheduling overview below.
