Edit Standings, on a division's Standings page, lets you choose each team's place by hand, for example after a tiebreaker game played outside the schedule. Your order lasts only until the standings are next recalculated, such as when a changed score is saved, so use it once the results are final.
Applies to: Admins whose role includes scheduling or scoring · All plans · League and tournament divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division name) > Standings page > Edit Standings
Before you start
- Edit Standings is grayed out until the division has standings: at least one game that's Played or forfeited and not hidden with Hide in Standings.
- Check first whether a setting explains the order. Click Tie Breaker Analysis above the standings: it lists the division's tie breakers, and Details By Team shows each team's Placement Type and the tie breaker that placed it. A setting, such as the tie breaker order, Hide in Standings or External Team, keeps working after every new score. A manual order doesn't.
- Edit Standings changes only the places. Each team's record, points and other columns keep their calculated values.
Set the places
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions and click the division's name to open its Standings page.
- If the division has a 2nd Half, choose 1st Half or 2nd Half at the top. Edit Standings changes only the half you choose.
- Click Edit Standings. The page says "Use this page to manually override the standings for this division."
- In a tournament division, choose the Pool. Save changes only that pool, so repeat these steps for each pool you want to change.
- In each team's Place drop-down (1 to 32), choose its place. Give every team a different place.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Standings Updated. Next time you Edit Scores & Save, the standings will be recalculated." The Standings page and your website list the teams in your order.
How long your order lasts
Every recalculation replaces your places with the calculated order. The standings are recalculated when:
- a change to a game is saved on Edit Scores or Multi Division Scoring;
- a coach or an official reports a score;
- someone clicks Standings Update Only on Edit Scores;
- the division's 1 Configuration > Scoring page, or Edit Penalties, is saved;
- a team's External Team setting is changed on 2 Teams.
Clicking Save on Edit Scores without changing any game doesn't recalculate the standings. If a result can still change, set your order again after the last one.
Edit Standings and your playoff bracket
- If the division's Playoff is seeded By Standings and every regular-season game has a result, saving Edit Standings for the 1st Half also puts your order into that bracket's unplayed first-round games.
- For a 2nd, 3rd or 4th Playoff, or in a tournament division, also open Edit Scores afterward and click Save without changing anything, so the bracket takes your order.
- With Playoff in Standings set to Yes on 1 Configuration > Scoring, brackets are seeded from the regular-season games only, so they go back to the calculated order the next time anyone clicks Save on Edit Scores, or Create or Calc & Save on the playoff page. To set the matchups for good, seed the bracket manually.
The bracket's labels and seeding rules are explained in Why is my playoff bracket showing "1st" or not filling in team names?
Edit Penalties
Edit Penalties, next to Edit Standings, records each team's penalties for the season.
- On the division's Standings page, click Edit Penalties. The page says "Use this page to update cumulative penalties for each team for the season."
- For each team, choose its total number of penalties so far, from 0 to 10.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Penalties saved and will be applied next time Standings are calculated." Saving also recalculates the standings right away, which replaces places set with Edit Standings. Penalties change a team's points only when the division uses a Custom Points configuration with a Per Penalty value.
If it doesn't work
- Edit Standings is grayed out. The division has no standings yet (see Before you start), or your admin role doesn't include scheduling or scoring. Ask your organization's main admin.
- Edit Standings isn't on the page. The league is archived, and its standings can't be changed.
- Your order went back to the calculated one. The standings were recalculated (see How long your order lasts). Set the places again.
- Two teams share a place. Edit Standings doesn't check for duplicates, and teams with the same place are listed by name. Open Edit Standings and give each team its own place.
- A team is missing. Teams marked External Team on 2 Teams aren't listed in the standings.
- The bracket didn't change. Every regular-season game needs a result, and the bracket must be seeded By Standings. See the bracket section above.
Good to know
- After you save, Details By Team in Tie Breaker Analysis lists the places you set, with a manual Placement Type, until the next recalculation.
- Saving playoff scores can recalculate the standings too: on Edit Scores when Playoff in Standings is Yes, and on Multi Division Scoring always.
- Edit Standings, Edit Scores and Edit Penalties need the same access: an admin role that includes scheduling or scoring.
- For an order that lasts all season, set the tie breakers to match your rules, with Coin Toss last. See Tie Breakers.
