The Home Page Banner is a short message near the top of your website's Home page, such as a rainout notice or a registration deadline. To change it, go to Content > Home Page Banner, enter the Top Text heading and the Banner Text, set Show Until Day/Time and click Save. Banner Text is a rich-text editor, so press Enter to start a new line.
Applies to: Org admins and content editors · All plans · Legacy content editor
Where: Content > Home Page Banner
Update the banner
- Go to Content > Home Page Banner.
- In Top Text, type the heading, up to 60 characters.
- In Banner Text, type the message. Press Enter to start a new line.
- Format the text with the toolbar if you like: font, size, text color, bold, italic, underline, a bulleted list or a horizontal line.
- To add a link, highlight the words and use the Hyperlink Manager for a web address, or the Links drop-down for a page, file or program on your site.
- Check Include Update Date if visitors should see when you last updated the banner.
- In Show Until Day/Time, pick the date, and in End Time the time, when the banner should disappear.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Save Successful." Your Home page shows the Top Text as a heading with the Banner Text below it until the day and time you chose. With Include Update Date checked, the date and time of your last save appear in parentheses at the end of the Banner Text.
Hide the banner
- 1. On Content > Home Page Banner, set Show Until Day/Time and End Time to a moment that has already passed.
- 2. Click Save.
The banner disappears from your Home page, but its text stays saved on this page. To show it again, choose a future date and time and click Save.
If it doesn't work
- "Top Text is required.", "Banner Text is required." or "Show Until Day/Time is required." All three must be filled in, including the End Time. To take the banner down, use a past date instead of clearing the fields.
- The banner doesn't appear. Check that Show Until Day/Time and End Time are in the future, and look at your Home page; the banner doesn't show on other pages.
- The banner ends at the wrong hour. Show Until Day/Time and the update date use your organization's time zone, not Pacific time.
- You can't change the alignment. The Banner Text toolbar has no alignment buttons; your site's layout sets the banner's alignment.
Good to know
- You don't need to hide the banner and build a table on the Home page to get line breaks; press Enter in Banner Text.
- The text color tool includes Add Custom Color, where you can enter a hex color code.
- The banner shows on your Home page only. For a message that pops up the first time someone visits your site in a session, use Content > Splash Page Edit.
- To change the pictures at the top of your site, use Content > Configurations > Site Images.
- Websites built with Editor 2.0 don't have the Home Page Banner. They post a Top Bar message instead.
