To leave a team out of a division's standings, edit the team on the division's 2 Teams page, check External Team and click Save. The team stays on the schedule, but it isn't listed in the standings, and the teams it plays keep their results against it.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans · Standard league divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > More Options > 2 Teams > Edit (pencil icon)
Use it for a team from outside your league that plays some of your teams, or for a team that dropped out after it was scheduled. To keep one game out of the standings instead, see How to exclude a game from the standings (Hide in Standings).
Mark a team as an External Team
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- Open the division's More Options menu and choose 2 Teams (then Regular, if a list appears).
- Click the Edit icon (pencil) next to the team.
- Check External Team ("For teams you do not want to appear in Standings and other site features.").
- Click Save.
- Open the division's Standings page (click the division's name on Leagues & Divisions) and check the list. If the team is still there, click Edit Scores, then Standings Update Only.
What you'll see: "The Team Information has been updated successfully." On 2 Teams, "*External Team" appears under the team's name. When the division's games already have results, saving recalculates the standings without the team; Standings Update Only shows "Standings updated successfully."
To add a team that is external from the start, click Add Team on 2 Teams, enter the Team Name, check External Team and click Add. To undo, edit the team, clear External Team and click Save.
What External Team changes
- Standings: the team has no row. Its games still count for the teams it plays, so a win against it is still a win. If its games shouldn't count for anyone, check Hide in Standings on each of them. To count a game for only one team, see How to count a game in the standings for only one team.
- Byes: the team never gets a bye. When 4 Create Schedule calculates the schedule, it removes any bye the team has.
- Schedule checks: 4 Create Schedule doesn't flag the team when its number of games differs from Games Played/Team.
- Public schedule: its games still show, but the team isn't offered in the schedule page's team list or under the division in your website's left-sidebar schedule menu.
- Rosters and stats: 2 Teams has no View Roster button for it, Assign To Roster doesn't list it, and Edit Stats has no stat entry for its side of a game.
- Both halves: the setting belongs to the team, so in a division with a 2nd Half the team is left out of both halves' standings.
If it doesn't work
- There's no Edit icon. Your admin role doesn't include editing teams, or the league is archived (archived leagues can't be changed).
- The team still shows in the standings. Click Edit Scores, then Standings Update Only. In a division with a 2nd Half, pick the half that still lists the team at the top of the Standings page first.
- "The Team "[team name]" cannot be deleted because the team has been scheduled. Delete all schedules or remove the team from all schedules prior to deleting the team." A team with games can't be deleted on 2 Teams. To take it out of the standings, mark it as an External Team instead.
- "This Team name is in use. Please use a different Team name." (when you add a team) Each team in a division needs its own name.
- Add Team is grayed out with the message "Add Team" and "Add Placeholders" are disabled due to the registration type Team. Teams are added during the enrollment process. In a Team Registration league you can't add teams yourself, but you can still edit an existing team and check External Team.
Good to know
- In a Single Games division, a team you create by typing a new name in Add Game on 4 Create Schedule is an External Team from the start, so it isn't listed in the standings.
