With Auto Coach Scoring, TeamSideline emails a team's coaches a Score This Game link after each game starts. The coach opens the link, enters the score and clicks Score, and the result posts to the standings. Coaches who use Coach Sign-In can also score from their team page.
Applies to: Admins and coaches · Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans (Auto Coach Scoring) · League and tournament divisions
Where: Admins: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > 1 Configuration > Scoring. Coaches: the "SCORE YOUR GAME" email, or your organization's website > Team Information > (team) > Auto-Coach Scoring
Who gets the scoring email
Two settings in the division's Auto Coach Scoring Configuration decide who's asked. To turn the feature on and choose them, see How do I enable Auto Coach Scoring?
| Setting | Choice | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Which Team Scores Game | Both Teams | Both teams get the email, and the score posts only when both teams' scores match. |
| Which Team Scores Game | Either Team | Both teams get the email, and the first score sent posts. |
| Which Team Scores Game | Home Team or Away Team | Only that team gets the email. |
| Who Scores Game | Team Contact | The email goes to the team's Primary Email and Alternate Email on the division's 2 Teams page. |
| Who Scores Game | All Staff | The email goes to those two addresses and to the Coach and Assistant Coach on the team's roster. |
A team whose Primary Email is blank gets no scoring email at all, even with an Alternate Email or All Staff. Check the team contacts on 2 Teams before the season starts.
When the emails go out
- The first request goes after the game starts, or the number of days later set in 1st Request. If 2nd Request and 3rd Request are on, reminders go only to teams that haven't sent a score.
- Only games from the last 15 days get requests, and a game that already has a result gets none.
- The email's subject starts with "SCORE YOUR GAME", and the email lists the game's time, date, location, division and teams. Replies go to a no-reply address, so coaches must use the link.
Score a game from the email
- Open the email and click Score This Game. You don't need to sign in.
- Check the game's Time, Date and Location at the top of the page.
- Under your team's section (Home Coach Score or Away Coach Score), enter the score for each team. The other team's section shows the score its coach sent, if any.
- If the game wasn't played, leave the scores blank and pick a reason in the If game not played, select a reason: list: Forfeit by home, Forfeit by away, Double forfeit or Canceled/Postponed.
- If the page lists Player Stats, enter them too.
- Click Score.
Score a game after signing in (Coach Sign-In)
- Sign in on your organization's website with the email address that's your team's Primary Email or Alternate Email.
- Under Team Information, click your team.
- In the Auto-Coach Scoring section, click the Edit icon (a pencil)
on the game's row.
- Enter the score as described above, and click Score.
The Auto-Coach Scoring section lists your team's games that have had a scoring request, with each game's Status. It needs Enable Coach Sign-In turned on in Schedules > Configurations > General.
What you'll see
- With Both Teams, the first team to score sees "Your scores have been saved. The other team coach is required to post scores for the results to be validated." When the second team's score matches, they see "Your scores have been validated and recorded."
- With Either Team, Home Team or Away Team, the coach sees "Your scores have been validated and recorded." right away.
- Once a score is recorded, the game shows as Played (or with the reason chosen) and the standings update. Until then it shows as Scoring in progress.
When a game is rescheduled
If a game without a result is moved on the Multi-Location Calendar, or by a coach with Schedule Changes on Coach Sign-In, TeamSideline clears its scoring requests and any score a coach already sent. The emails start over after the new date and time, so both coaches score it again.
When an admin uses Reschedule Game on 4 Create Schedule, the original game is marked Canceled and a new game is added. The new game gets its own scoring emails after its date. A game that already has a result never gets another email.
If it doesn't work
- "Review Scoring! Your scores do not agree with the previously entered scores. If you are sure your scores are correct, contact the Coach for the other Team." With Both Teams, the two scores must match. The coaches agree on the score and one sends it again, or an admin enters it on Edit Scores.
- "This game has already been scored by another coach on your team." Someone else on the team, for example the other contact address, already sent the score.
- "The Game has already been scored either by the coaches or an administrator." The game has a result. Ask an admin to correct it on Edit Scores if it's wrong.
- "Scoring is not available. Please contact your organization." The division's Lock Scoring days, counted from the game's start, have passed. An admin can enter the score.
- "The Schedule has been updated after this 'Score This Game' email was sent. Please check for another follow-up 'Score This Game' email." The schedule was rebuilt after the email went out. Use the newer email, or ask an admin.
- "Coach scoring has been disabled for this schedule." Auto Coach Scoring is off for the division.
- "Player Stats Points Made(PM) must total to team score." The players' points must add up to the team's score.
- A coach didn't get the email. See Auto Coach Scoring emails: when they are sent, who gets them, and why they might not arrive.
Good to know
- Admins can see each scoring email in Communications > Communication Logs > System Log, and can always enter or correct a score on the division's Edit Scores page.
- Auto Coach Scoring is part of the Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans.
