To track visits to your legacy website, paste your Google Analytics 4 measurement ID, which starts with G-, into Google Analytics Acct on Administration > Configurations > Analytics & SEO, and click Save. TeamSideline then adds the Google tag to your website's pages for you.
Applies to: Admins · All plans · Legacy content editor websites
Where: Administration > Configurations > Analytics & SEO > Google Analytics Acct
Add your measurement ID
- In your Google Analytics account, open your GA4 property's web data stream and copy its Measurement ID. It starts with G-, for example G-AAAAAAAAAA.
- In TeamSideline, go to Administration > Configurations > Analytics & SEO.
- Under Analytics, paste the ID into Google Analytics Acct, exactly as Google shows it, with a capital G.
- Click Save.
What you'll see
"Analytics & SEO configurations have been updated." Visits then start showing in Google Analytics: Realtime first, other reports within a day or two. TeamSideline adds the Google tag to:
- every page of your legacy website, on any address, and
- TeamSideline account and registration pages, but only when they open on your own domain. Pages that open on teamsideline.com aren't tracked.
If it doesn't work
- "Google Analytics account must start with "UA-" or "G-"." The ID is missing its prefix, or starts with a lowercase g. Copy the Measurement ID again and paste it as Google shows it.
- No data, and your ID starts with UA-. That's an old Universal Analytics ID. Google has retired Universal Analytics, so the field still accepts the ID but no data is collected. Set up a GA4 property in Google Analytics and enter its G- ID instead.
- No data with a G- ID. Check that you copied the Measurement ID of the right property's web stream, visit your website in a browser, and look at Realtime. Ad blockers and some browser privacy settings keep visits from being counted.
- Your website uses Editor 2.0. Google Analytics Acct doesn't track Editor 2.0 pages, because the Site Editor serves them. See CMS: How to add Google Analytics, Tag Manager or Search Console to your website.
Good to know
- The same page's SEO Meta Data section sets the Meta Key Words and Meta Description on your legacy website's pages, up to 250 characters each. Click Save after changing them.
- For other tracking code, such as Google Tag Manager or a Meta Pixel, Advanced JS (Content > Configurations > Site Layout > Advanced JS) adds JavaScript to every page of your legacy website when Enable Advanced JS is Yes. It's an advanced feature: the box takes JavaScript code only, and a mistake can break your pages. TeamSideline Support can help you add code there.
- Load Google Analytics only once. If Tag Manager or Advanced JS already adds your GA4 tag, leave Google Analytics Acct blank, or visits are counted twice.
- On an Editor 2.0 website, TeamSideline Support adds tracking code such as a Meta Pixel for you.
- Support can't sign in to your Google Analytics account. You keep ownership of it.
