A 2nd Half schedule is a second season for a division, with its own teams, start date, number of games and time slots, kept apart from the regular season. Tick 2nd Half on the division's 1 Configuration > Scheduling page, copy the teams on 2 Teams > 2nd Half, add 2nd Half time slots, then click Create on 4 Create Schedule > 2nd Half.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans (Consolidated Standings: Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise) · Standard league divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > More Options > 1 Configuration > Scheduling, then 2 Teams > 2nd Half, 3 Time Slots > 2nd Half and 4 Create Schedule > 2nd Half
Step 1: Turn on the 2nd Half
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions, open the division's More Options menu and choose 1 Configuration > Scheduling.
- Under Division Schedule Types, tick 2nd Half. Regular must be ticked too.
- Games Played/Team now has a 1st Half and a 2nd Half box. Choose how many games each team plays in the 2nd Half.
- Day of First Game now has a 2nd Half date too. Choose the first day of the 2nd Half, after the 1st Half's last week.
- Choose 2H Same Game Order ("Keep game matches in the same order for the 2nd Half"): Yes or No (see below).
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Division configuration updated." On Leagues & Divisions, the division now shows a second team count and a second eye icon, both for the 2nd Half.
2H Same Game Order: with No, Create shuffles the teams before it pairs them, so each schedule gets its own matchup order. With Yes, Create keeps the teams in order, so a 2nd Half with the same teams as the 1st Half plays its matchups in the same order. This doesn't apply if the 2nd Half's teams are different. The setting covers the Regular schedule too, so choose Yes before you create the Regular schedule.
Step 2: Add the 2nd Half teams
- Open More Options > 2 Teams > 2nd Half, or click the division's second team count on Leagues & Divisions.
- Click Copy All Teams.
- For each team that isn't playing in the 2nd Half, click its red X (Delete) and click OK. This takes the team out of the 2nd Half only.
- Click Next Step.
What you'll see: "All Teams copied from 1st Half." Copy All Teams copies every team, External Teams included, and shows only while the 2nd Half has no teams. There's no Add Team on this page. A team is the same team in both halves, so editing it (pencil) on either 2 Teams page changes it in both.
On sites with Advanced Scheduling, Schedules > Team Assignments > Mid-Season can also move teams to a different division for the 2nd Half, for example by their 1st Half results. Choose the League and click Go: every team without a 2nd Half division is put in the 2nd Half of its own division, except External Teams. Then pick a new division in a team's 2nd Half column and click Update ("Mid-Season Assignments updated.").
Step 3: Add the 2nd Half time slots
- On 3 Time Slots > 2nd Half, click Add Time Slot and add each day, start time and location.
- Or, to reuse the 1st Half's time slots, click Copy Time Slots, choose this division's League and Division, and click Copy ("Time Slots copied.").
- Click Next Step.
The 2nd Half needs the same minimum number of time slots as any schedule. Copy Time Slots shows only while the 2nd Half has no time slots, and Block A Week isn't on the 2nd Half's 3 Time Slots page. If the division uses Auto Assign (Advanced Scheduling), the 2nd Half uses the same Auto Assign settings instead of time slots.
Step 4: Create the schedule and show it
- On 4 Create Schedule > 2nd Half, click Create. Create gives each 2nd Half team its 2nd Half Games Played/Team, starting in the week of the 2nd Half Day of First Game.
- Review the games, make any changes and click Calc & Save.
- On Schedules > Leagues & Divisions, click the division's 2nd Half eye ("2nd Half Schedule Not Visible - click to make schedule visible on your public page"). You can do this before the 2nd Half's first game.
- If the league is linked to a registration program with Team Sites, go to Programs > Manage Programs > (program) > 5 Team Sites and click "Publish 2nd Half Schedule" on the division's row, or on each team's row.
What you'll see: "Your schedule has been created and saved for you to review." After step 3 the eye turns green ("2nd Half Schedule Visible - click to remove schedule from your public page"), or yellow ("Schedule Partially Visible") when Show Game Section is No. The 2nd Half eye covers only the 2nd Half; the first eye still controls the regular season.
Move games from the regular schedule to the 2nd Half
If games already on the Regular schedule belong in the 2nd Half, export them, import them as the 2nd Half and delete them from the Regular schedule. Move only games that haven't been played: the import doesn't bring scores.
- Go to Reports > Report Exports > Games. Choose the league and division, set Date Range to Custom with the 2nd Half dates, include the date, time, location schedule name and home and away team columns, set Export Type to CSV and click Export.
- On 1 Configuration > Scheduling, tick 2nd Half if it isn't ticked, set the 2nd Half Day of First Game on or before the first exported game, and click Save.
- On 2 Teams > 2nd Half, click Copy All Teams.
- Go to Administration > Import Data and click Division Schedule Import. Upload the file, choose the League, the Division, Schedule Type 2nd Half and Import Mode Create New, map the Date, Time, Schedule Name, Home Team Name and Away Team Name fields, and click Queue Import.
- When Status shows the import finished, check the games on 4 Create Schedule > 2nd Half.
- On 4 Create Schedule > Regular, open each moved game's menu, choose Delete Game, and click Calc & Save when you're done.
Standings and playoffs
- Each half has its own standings. On the division's Standings page, pick 1st Half or 2nd Half at the top.
- Consolidated Standings, on 1 Configuration > Scoring (Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans): Yes means "Include 1st Half Games in 2nd Half Standings."
- Show Schedule Default, on 1 Configuration > Display: Auto ("Auto changes default to 2h when it's visible.") or Regular, to keep showing the regular season first.
- Once the 2nd Half schedule exists, playoff weeks follow it. Playoff seeding by standings uses the 1st Half standings; to seed from 2nd Half results, seed the bracket manually.
If it doesn't work
- "You must have a Regular season to enable the 2nd Half." Tick Regular too.
- "You must play at least 1 game per team in the 2nd Half, if 2nd Half schedule is selected." Set the 2nd Half box of Games Played/Team to 1 or more.
- "Day of First Game for 2nd Half must be after 1st Half." The two dates are the same. Choose a later 2nd Half date.
- There's no 2nd Half under 2 Teams, 3 Time Slots or 4 Create Schedule. Tick 2nd Half on 1 Configuration > Scheduling and click Save first.
- There's no Copy All Teams button. The 2nd Half already has teams. Delete them with their red X to copy again. Once the 2nd Half schedule has games, its teams can't be deleted.
- An External Team is missing from the 2nd Half after Mid-Season. Go skips External Teams. Edit the team on 2 Teams, clear External Team and click Save, run Mid-Season again (choose the League and click Go), then check External Team again. In a Team Registration league you can't add the team back yourself, because Add Team is disabled.
- There's no Create button on 4 Create Schedule > 2nd Half. Check the 2nd Half Day of First Game, that 2 Teams > 2nd Half has at least 2 teams, and that 3 Time Slots > 2nd Half has enough time slots.
- The 2nd Half date or the 2nd Half box is grayed out. The 2nd Half schedule exists. To change the date, delete the 2nd Half schedule on 4 Create Schedule > 2nd Half, change the date, click Save and create it again. Deleting it doesn't change the Regular schedule.
Good to know
- The 2nd Half's weeks count from its own Day of First Game.
- Single Games and tournament divisions don't have a 2nd Half.
- If you leave 4 Create Schedule > 2nd Half after making changes without clicking Calc & Save, the page warns that your changes may not be saved.
- The import in the moving steps checks that every game is on or after the 2nd Half Day of First Game; see the import article below for its messages.
