To post game results, open the division's Standings page, click Edit Scores, type each team's score and click Save. You don't need to change the Disposition: a Not played game with both scores filled in is saved as Played, and the standings update. To score games from several divisions on the same days, use Schedules > Multi Division Scoring.
Applies to: Admins with scoring access, including the Scorekeeper role · Edit Scores: all plans; Multi Division Scoring and Auto Coach Scoring: Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise · League divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division name) > Edit Scores, or Schedules > Multi Division Scoring
Note: Did you know TeamSideline offers Auto Coach Scoring? Coaches can get a prompt to enter the score immediately following the game and scores/standings can be updated with no administrator work at all. What is the process for Auto Coach Scoring?
Option 1: Score one division (Edit Scores)
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions and click the division's name to open its Standings page. (Or open the division's More Options menu and click Edit Scores.)
- If the division has a 2nd Half schedule, pick 1st Half or 2nd Half in the drop-down at the top of the Standings page. Playoff games are scored from 1st Half.
- Click Edit Scores.
- Find the game. Games are grouped by week (Week: 1, Week: 2 and so on). A week in which every game already has a result starts collapsed; click its arrow to open it.
- Type the score in the box next to each team's name, under Home and Away.
- Leave Disposition at Not played; it changes to Played when you save. Change it only to record a forfeit, a cancellation or another outcome (see Dispositions below).
- If needed, type a comment over "Enter your comments here", check Hide in Standings to leave the game out of the standings, or check Overtime (shown for sports with overtime).
- Click Save (above or below the games).
What you'll see: "Results saved and standings updated successfully." You're back on the Standings page with the new results and standings.
Playoff games
Playoff games are listed under the regular-season games, in Playoff Schedule (and Playoff Schedule 2, 3 and 4 when the division has more brackets), grouped by Playoff Round. They're only on the Regular (1st Half) Edit Scores page: in a division with a 2nd Half, pick 1st Half on the Standings page, or use More Options > Edit Scores > Regular. A playoff game gets score boxes once both of its teams are known, for example after the earlier round is scored. Playoff games offer Not played, Played, Forfeit by home, Forfeit by away and Scoring in progress; Position Rounds playoffs also offer Double forfeit and Canceled.
Option 2: Score several divisions at once (Multi Division Scoring)
- Go to Schedules > Multi Division Scoring.
- Set the Date Range. Both dates start at yesterday, and the range can be up to 7 days.
- In Location, tick the locations you want. All of them are ticked at first.
- Choose the Sport Type, or leave it at All.
- Click Update. Games in your active leagues are listed by league, each with its division, location, day, date and time.
- Check the league, division and time, then type the scores next to (H), the home team, and (A), the away team.
- If needed, add a comment, change the Disposition, or check Exclude From Standings or Overtime.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Results saved and standings updated successfully." The standings of every division you scored are updated. Playoff games whose teams are known are listed here too.
Dispositions
| Disposition | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Not played | The game hasn't been played yet. Entering both scores and saving changes it to Played. |
| Played | The game has a final score. Both scores are required. |
| Forfeit by home, Forfeit by away | One team forfeited. The score is filled in for you: the other team gets the division's Forfeit Opponent score from 1 Configuration > Scoring, and the forfeiting team gets 0. |
| Double forfeit | Both teams forfeited. |
| Canceled | The game won't be played. Your schedule shows it struck through, or hides it if Show Canceled Games is No on the division's 1 Configuration > Display page. |
| Score not kept | The game was played without keeping score. |
| Scoring in progress | Set by Auto Coach Scoring while it waits for the coaches' scores. Entering both scores and saving changes it to Played. |
If it doesn't work
- "All scores are required for both home and away teams for played games (see Week (week), Game (home team) vs (away team))." The game is set to Played but a score is blank. Enter both scores, or set the Disposition back to Not played. In divisions that score several matches per game (Match Results), every match needs a score; enter 0 and 0 for a match that wasn't played. On Multi Division Scoring the message names the date and time instead of the week, and for a playoff game it names the game, such as R1G2.
- "Invalid Home score entry in Week (week), Game (home team) vs (away team)." (or Away) A score must be a whole number. Remove letters, spaces and decimals. To record an exact result, such as a decimal score, type it in the game's comment; it shows on your schedule when Show Comments is Yes.
- The playoff games aren't on Edit Scores. You opened the 2nd Half. Go back to the Standings page, pick 1st Half and click Edit Scores again.
- A playoff game has no score boxes, and Disposition only shows Not played. Its teams aren't known yet. Score the games that decide them first. With seeding by standings, that means every regular-season game.
- Edit Scores is grayed out or missing. The division has no schedule yet, your admin role doesn't include scoring, or the league is archived (archived leagues can't be scored).
- Some games can't be changed. Your admin account is limited to certain associated organizations, so games at other organizations' locations are read-only.
- The standings didn't change. Check that the game is Played and that Hide in Standings isn't checked. Teams set as External Team never appear in the standings. Standings Update Only on Edit Scores recalculates the standings without changing any scores ("Standings updated successfully.").
- "The maximum date range must be 7 days or less." or "To Date cannot be prior to From Date." (Multi Division Scoring) Shorten or correct the Date Range. If you see "No games found.", check the dates, the ticked locations and the Sport Type; archived leagues aren't listed.
Good to know
- Saving scores also moves winners through your playoff brackets. With seeding by standings, playoff team names fill in once every regular-season game has a result, so set games that won't be played to Canceled or Score not kept. In a division with a 2nd Half, the seeding uses the 1st Half standings.
- Comments show with the game on your schedule when Show Comments is Yes on the division's 1 Configuration > Display page. When you reschedule a game on 4 Create Schedule, its comment is filled in with "Game rescheduled to" and the new date, time and location.
- Hide in Standings (Edit Scores) and Exclude From Standings (Multi Division Scoring) are the same setting.
- Auto Coach Scoring (Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise): coaches report scores by email. When a coach has reported, an icon appears next to the team; hover over it to see the score they sent. In divisions that use it, Resend Scoring Requests on Edit Scores emails the coaches again for games still Scoring in progress ("Scoring requests resent to "Scoring in progress" games.").
- Scorekeepers: an admin who manages users can add a volunteer on Administration > Manage Users and give them the Scorekeeper role, so they can enter scores without being a full administrator. They sign in to your admin site and follow Option 1, or Option 2 on the Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans.
