Turn on Auto Coach Scoring on the division's 1 Configuration > Scoring page: set Enabled to Yes, choose which team scores and who gets the email, set when the requests go out, and click Save. After each game starts, the team contacts then get a "SCORE YOUR GAME" email with a Score This Game link, and the score they send posts to your standings.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans (Auto Coach Scoring and Who Scores Game) · League and tournament divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > More Options > 1 Configuration > Scoring; for several divisions, Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > Update Multiple Divisions
Before you start
- Each team needs a Primary Email on the division's 2 Teams page (click the team's Edit icon). A team with a blank Primary Email gets no scoring email at all, even if it has an Alternate Email.
- To also email coaches, the Coach and Assistant Coach on each team's roster need email addresses.
- Requests go out only for divisions whose schedule is shown on your public site, in active leagues.
Turn it on for one division
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- Open the division's More Options menu and choose 1 Configuration > Scoring. Tournament divisions use the same page.
- Scroll to Auto Coach Scoring Configuration and set each field (see the table below).
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Division configuration updated."
The settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enabled | Yes turns Auto Coach Scoring on for the division; No turns it off. |
| Which Team Scores Game | Both Teams: both teams get the email, and the score posts only when the two teams' scores match. Either Team: both get it, and the first score sent posts. Home Team or Away Team: only that team gets it. |
| Who Scores Game | Team Contact: the email goes to the team's Primary Email and Alternate Email on 2 Teams. All Staff: it also goes to the Coach and Assistant Coach on the team's roster. Other roster staff don't get it. |
| 1st Request | 0 to 5 days after the game starts. 0 sends it shortly after the scheduled start time. |
| 2nd Request | Check Yes, send reminder email and choose 1 to 5 days after the 1st Request. Reminders go only to teams that haven't sent a score. |
| 3rd Request | The same, 1 to 5 days after the 2nd Request. It needs a 2nd Request. |
| Auto Accept One Score | Shown only with Both Teams. Check Yes, post scores and choose 1 to 5 days after the last request: if only one team has sent a score by then, that score is posted. Regular-season and 2nd Half games only. |
| Lock Scoring | The number of days after the game starts when the Score This Game link stops taking scores. 0 means no lock. You can still enter scores on Edit Scores. |
| Collect Stats | Yes adds a Player Stats list to the scoring page. Stats must be turned on and set up for the division, and the division must keep one score per game. |
| Show Custom Fields | Yes shows coaches' answers to your Auto Coach Scoring custom fields, such as a pitch count, with each game on the public schedule. |
Turn it on for several divisions
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions and click Update Multiple Divisions.
- In Update Type, choose Configuration.
- Under Divisions, choose the divisions to change.
- In Auto Coach Scoring Configuration, set Enabled and the other fields.
- Click Update.
When Enabled is set here, every Auto Coach Scoring field in that section is copied to each division you chose, so check them all. Collect Stats isn't on this page; set it on each division's Scoring page.
What happens next
- Each team's first request goes out after its game's start time, or the days you set later. Turning Auto Coach Scoring on mid-season covers games from the last 15 days; older games aren't requested.
- Requests go to regular-season, 2nd Half and playoff games, including tournament pool and bracket games, once both teams are known. Games in a TBD time slot don't get one.
- While TeamSideline waits for scores, the game shows as Scoring in progress. On Edit Scores, an icon next to a team shows it has reported; hover over it to see the score.
- To send the requests again, for example after fixing an email address, click Resend Scoring Requests on the division's Edit Scores page.
If it doesn't work
- There's no Auto Coach Scoring Configuration section. Your plan doesn't include Auto Coach Scoring. It comes with the Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans.
- There's no Who Scores Game field. Your plan doesn't include it, so the emails go to the team contacts only.
- "3rd Request is only applicable if 2nd Request is selected." Check the 2nd Request too, or clear the 3rd.
- "Lock Scoring is required." Enter a number of days, or 0 for no lock.
- Everything is grayed out and there's no Save button. The league is archived.
- Coaches aren't getting the emails. See Auto Coach Scoring emails: when they are sent, who gets them, and why they might not arrive.
Good to know
- The 1st Request note on Sport Defaults and on Update Multiple Divisions says "day(s) after game ends. (0=on game end)". Requests are timed from the game's start on every page.
- Schedules > Configurations > Sport Defaults sets the Auto Coach Scoring values new divisions start with. It doesn't change divisions you already have.
- To ask coaches extra questions with the score, add a custom field with the Category Auto Coach Scoring under Administration > Configurations > Custom Fields.
- Coaches who use Coach Sign-In can also score from their team page, under Auto-Coach Scoring.
- When a coach moves a game with Schedule Changes, or you move it on the Multi-Location Calendar, its scoring requests start over from the new time.
