To give your Editor 2.0 website a new template, ask TeamSideline Support to reset it: Reset Site isn't part of the Site Editor access admins have. Ask for a Full Reset to start over, or Reset and Retain Content to keep your content, images and files, and make a site backup first so you have a way back.
Applies to: Org admins with Site Editor access · All plans, for organizations with Editor 2.0 (the CMS module) · Editor 2.0 (CMS)
Where: Content > Site Editor > More > Site Backup (to back up first); TeamSideline Support does the reset
Do you need a reset?
A reset replaces the design of your whole website. For smaller changes, you don't need one:
- To change pictures, text, buttons or icons, edit them in the Site Editor. See CMS: Edit text, images, buttons and icons on your website.
- To undo changes that went wrong, restore an earlier version of your website instead. See CMS: Restore an earlier version of your website (Site Backup).
- If your website still uses the legacy content editor, a new template comes with moving to Editor 2.0. See How to move your website to Editor 2.0: steps, timeline and what transfers.
Full Reset or Reset and Retain Content
Full Reset
A Full Reset removes your website's current design and content and starts again from the new template. Choose it if you want to rebuild your website completely and don't need any of its current content.
Reset and Retain Content
Reset and Retain Content applies the new template and keeps the content stored in your website, including:
- Content Library items, such as your business information
- Images and media files
- Other site content and assets
Choose it if you want a fresh design without recreating your content. The new template decides how your pages are laid out, so check every page afterward. If you're not sure which to ask for, Reset and Retain Content is usually the better choice.
What neither reset changes
| Part of your website | After either reset |
|---|---|
| What the TeamSideline sections show: programs and registration, schedules and standings, calendar events, Downloads, Entry Forms, Store and Donations items, policies and locations | Unchanged. This information comes from your admin site, not from the Site Editor. |
| Your admin site | Unchanged. |
| Your web address | Unchanged. |
Ask for a reset
- Go to Content > Site Editor.
- In the left sidebar, click More, then Site Backup, and create a backup of your current website. It's your way back if you don't like the result.
- Let the other admins who edit your website know: a reset replaces their Site Editor changes too.
- Contact TeamSideline Support (Help > Contact Support in the admin menu). Say which reset you want, Full Reset or Reset and Retain Content, and which template you'd like. Support can help you choose.
- When Support tells you the reset is done, go to Content > Site Editor and check every page in the desktop, tablet and phone views. Click Preview to see a page as visitors will.
- Make your changes, then click Republish, the orange button in the top-right corner, to put the new design on your live website.
What you'll see: after the reset, the Site Editor shows your website in the new template. Visitors keep seeing your current website until it's republished.
Can a reset be undone?
Not with Undo. The way back is a backup from before the reset: restore it at Content > Site Editor > More > Site Backup, or ask TeamSideline Support to restore it, then click Republish. Restoring goes back for everything changed in the Site Editor after that backup. Without a backup from before the reset, a Full Reset can't be undone, so keep a copy of anything you need before you ask.
If it doesn't work
- You don't see Reset Site in the Site Editor. That's expected: your editor access doesn't include it. Ask TeamSideline Support to reset your website.
- Content is missing or in a different place after Reset and Retain Content. The new template lays out pages its own way. Add your kept pictures again from your media library, or restore your backup.
- A program's More Info, a schedule or a stats link opens a page-not-found error after the reset. The new template is missing a page that TeamSideline's sections use. Contact TeamSideline Support.
- Your live website still shows the old design. Open the Site Editor and click Republish, then reload your website in a private (incognito) browser window.
- You want your old website back. Restore the backup you made before the reset, and republish. If there's no backup from before the reset, contact TeamSideline Support before you make more changes.
Good to know
- TeamSideline sets up your Site Editor access each time you open Content > Site Editor. It includes editing, publishing, Site Backup and the SEO tools. Resetting the website, working with code and connecting a domain stay with TeamSideline staff.
- A reset applies to the whole website, including pages other admins edited.
- A reset gives your Editor 2.0 website a new template. It doesn't move your website back to the legacy content editor.
