A game's disposition records what happened to it: Not played, Played, Forfeit by home, Forfeit by away, Double forfeit, Canceled, Score not kept or Scoring in progress. It decides whether the game counts in the standings, how its result shows, and whether you can still move the game on 4 Create Schedule.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers who enter scores · All plans (Multi Division Scoring, Multi Game Cancel and Auto Coach Scoring: Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise) · League and tournament divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > Standings > Edit Scores (Disposition column)
Set a game's disposition
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- Click the division's name to open its Standings page, and click Edit Scores. (You can also choose Edit Scores from the division's More Options menu.)
- Find the game and choose its Disposition. For a game that was played, you can just type both scores: a Not played or Scoring in progress game becomes Played when you save.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Results saved and standings updated successfully." on the division's Standings page, with the standings recalculated. To score games in several divisions at once, use Schedules > Multi Division Scoring (Enhanced and higher); its Disposition list works the same way.
What each disposition means
| Disposition | Use it when | Standings | Results and schedule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Not played | The game hasn't happened yet. Every new game starts here. | Not counted. | Shows as an upcoming game. Only Not played games can be moved, edited or deleted on 4 Create Schedule. |
| Played | The game was played and both scores are in. | Counts as a win, loss or tie, and the scores count as runs (goals or points) for and against. | Shows the score. |
| Forfeit by home | The home team forfeited. | A win for the away team and a loss for the home team, with forfeit points and forfeit runs (see Forfeits below). | Shows W and L instead of a score. |
| Forfeit by away | The away team forfeited. | A win for the home team and a loss for the away team, with forfeit points and forfeit runs. | Shows W and L instead of a score. |
| Double forfeit | Both teams forfeited. | A loss for each team. The forfeit runs count for and against both teams. | Shows L for both teams. |
| Canceled | The game won't be played, or not at this date and time. | Not counted. | Struck through on the schedule, or hidden if the division's Show Canceled Games is No. It can be rescheduled. |
| Score not kept | The game was played but nobody kept score. | Not counted. | No score shows. Not offered for playoff games. |
| Scoring in progress | Auto Coach Scoring has asked the coaches for the score and is waiting for it. | Not counted. | No score shows yet. |
A game with Hide in Standings checked on Edit Scores is left out of the standings whatever its disposition.
Forfeits
- Each division has a Forfeit Opponent Runs setting (Forfeit Opponent Goals or Forfeit Opponent Points, depending on the sport) on 1 Configuration > Scoring.
- When you save a game as Forfeit by home or Forfeit by away, TeamSideline replaces any score you typed: the winner gets the Forfeit Opponent runs and the loser gets 0.
- The standings add those runs to the winner's runs for and the loser's runs against. With the setting at 0, a forfeit adds no runs.
- Forfeit points come from the division's points setup. With the Default points, in most sports a forfeit win earns the same points as a win, and a forfeit loss or double forfeit earns none. To change that, create a Custom Points setup with your own Forfeit Win, Forfeit Loss and Double Forfeit points and pick it in Custom Pts Config. on 1 Configuration > Scoring.
Playoff and bracket games
- Bracket games offer only Not played, Played, Forfeit by home, Forfeit by away and Scoring in progress. Position Rounds playoffs also offer Double forfeit and Canceled. Score not kept is never offered for a playoff game.
- A bracket seeded By Standings fills in its teams only when no regular-season game is still Not played or Scoring in progress. Set games that won't be played to Canceled or Score not kept so the seeds can fill in.
Postponed, rained-out and rescheduled games
There's no Postponed disposition. Use Canceled, and reschedule the game when you have a new date:
- You know the new date. On the division's 4 Create Schedule page, open the game's menu, choose Edit Game, check Reschedule?, pick a reason (such as Rained Out or Lightning), set the new week, day, time and location, click Update and then Calc & Save. The original stays on the schedule as a canceled game, struck through with a note saying when it was rescheduled, and the game is added at its new time.
- You don't know the new date yet. Set the game to Canceled on Edit Scores. When you have a date, choose Reschedule Game from the canceled game's menu on 4 Create Schedule. Or set it back to Not played on Edit Scores and move it with Edit Game.
- Many games at once, such as a rained-out day: use Schedules > Multi Game Cancel (Enhanced and higher). Choose the locations, divisions and date range and a Reason, then click Update. It marks those games Canceled. Playoff games can't be canceled there.
Scoring in progress and Auto Coach Scoring
- In a division that uses Auto Coach Scoring, a Not played game becomes Scoring in progress when TeamSideline sends the first scoring request to the coaches.
- Resend Scoring Requests on Edit Scores (shown only when the division uses Auto Coach Scoring) sends the request again for every Scoring in progress game that a team hasn't reported yet. You'll see "Scoring requests resent to "Scoring in progress" games."
- Typing both scores for a Scoring in progress game and clicking Save makes it Played.
- A Scoring in progress game can't be moved on 4 Create Schedule. To reschedule it, set it to Not played on Edit Scores first.
If it doesn't work
- "All scores are required for both home and away teams for played games (see Week [week], Game [home team] vs [away team])." You chose Played with a score missing. Enter both scores, or choose another disposition. Nothing is saved until you fix it. (Multi Division Scoring names the game's date and time instead of the week.)
- "Invalid Home score entry in Week [week], Game [home team] vs [away team]." (or Away) A score isn't a whole number. Fix it and save again.
- A game went back to Played after you chose Not played. A Not played game saved with both scores becomes Played. Clear both scores, choose Not played and click Save.
- You can't move or edit a game on 4 Create Schedule. Only Not played games can be changed there; a canceled game offers only Reschedule Game. Set the game back to Not played on Edit Scores first.
- The Delete button is gone from 4 Create Schedule. It's hidden once any game in that schedule is Played. See How to delete a schedule (regular, 2nd half, or playoff).
- The playoff bracket still shows placeholders such as "1st". A regular-season game is still Not played or Scoring in progress. See Why isn't my playoff bracket updating?
Good to know
- Changing a disposition and clicking Save recalculates the division's standings and playoff seeding.
- Show Canceled Games is on the division's 1 Configuration > Display page.
- In sports that have overtime, Edit Scores also has an Overtime box; saving a game as Canceled clears it. Each game also has a comments box for notes.
