You can delete a playoff game yourself when the playoff schedule was built as Manual, or when it's the optional ("if needed") game at the end of a Double Elimination or 3 Game Guarantee bracket, as long as the game is Not played: click Delete Game in the game's menu on 4 Create Schedule > Playoff, then Calc & Save. Other bracket games can't be deleted or canceled one at a time. Record a forfeit if a team drops out, move the game, or leave it Not played with a comment.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans · League division playoffs (Playoff, 2nd Playoff, 3rd Playoff and 4th Playoff)
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > More Options > 4 Create Schedule > Playoff
Which playoff games you can delete
| Game | Game menu | Can you delete it? |
|---|---|---|
| Any Not played game in a Manual playoff schedule | Swap Teams, Edit Game, Delete Game | Yes |
| The optional game at the end of a Double Elimination or 3 Game Guarantee bracket, while Not played | Swap Teams, Edit Game, Delete Game | Yes |
| Any other Not played game in a bracket TeamSideline created | Swap Teams, Edit Game | No |
| A game that's Played, forfeited or Scoring in progress | No menu | No |
Delete a playoff game
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions, open the division's More Options menu and choose 4 Create Schedule > Playoff (or 2nd Playoff, 3rd Playoff or 4th Playoff).
- Click the game menu icon at the end of the game's row.
- Click Delete Game. The game disappears from the list.
- Click Calc & Save. Until you do, the game isn't deleted.
What you'll see: "The Schedule has been calculated, saved, and is shown below. You can now view this schedule on the Standings & Results page."
When the game can't be deleted
- A team drops out or can't play. On the division's Edit Scores page, set the game's Disposition to Forfeit by home or Forfeit by away and click Save. The other team advances in the bracket as the winner.
- The game is moving to another date. On 4 Create Schedule > Playoff, change the game's Week and Time Slot, or choose Edit Game in its menu to set the Day, Time and Location. Then click Calc & Save.
- The game won't be played and nobody advances from it. Leave it Not played and type a note in its comment box on Edit Scores (up to 200 characters), such as "Not needed". Comments show with the game on your public Standings & Results page unless a visitor turns them off.
- You need a different set of games. Delete the whole playoff schedule and create it again. Creating it again builds the same games for the same Playoff Type, so for games of your own choosing, set the Playoff Type to Manual on 1 Configuration > Scheduling first and add the games with Add Game. The whole schedule can be deleted only while no playoff game is Played or forfeited.
Canceled isn't offered for most playoff games
On Edit Scores, playoff games offer Not played, Played, Forfeit by home, Forfeit by away and Scoring in progress. Canceled and Double forfeit are added only for Position Rounds playoff types. Until both of a game's teams are known, the only choice is Not played.
Multi Game Cancel skips playoff games
Schedules > Multi Game Cancel doesn't cancel playoff games. Its page notes: "Playoff games cannot be cancelled through this function. To cancel or reschedule any playoff games, use the Create Schedule page." If the games you select include playoff games, the other games are canceled and you see "Multiple games have been cancelled. Playoff games cannot be cancelled through this function. Please notify participants directly by updating your site and sending your participants email/text message. To reschedule any playoff games, use the Create Schedule page." Tell your teams about the playoff games yourself, for example from Communications > Send Communication.
If it doesn't work
- The menu has no Delete Game. The game is in a bracket TeamSideline created and isn't the optional game. Use one of the options under When the game can't be deleted.
- The game's row has no menu icon. The game has a result (Played, a forfeit or Scoring in progress). To delete it, first set it back to Not played on Edit Scores, clearing both scores, and click Save.
- The deleted game came back. Calc & Save wasn't clicked before you left the page. Delete it again and click Calc & Save.
- "The Schedule has changed since you started editing it. Please re-calculate the schedule and try again." Someone saved this playoff schedule while you were working. Reload the page and delete the game again.
Good to know
- You don't have to delete an optional game you no longer need. You can also leave it Not played with a comment.
- A tournament division's Bracket pages follow the same rule: the same games have a delete icon on their row, and you confirm before it's removed.
- Deleting a game doesn't notify anyone. Let the teams know about the change.
