Each alert on 4 Create Schedule shows as a short code in a colored circle on the game's row, with its full message in the alert list at the top of the page; hover over a circle to see the alert's name. Three alerts are critical and stop Calc & Save from saving: TC (Time Slot Conflict), TN (Time Slot Not Selected) and TS (Team Selected Twice). Every other alert is a warning, and the schedule still saves.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans (hiding warnings and changing alert colors: Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise) · League divisions (Regular and 2nd Half schedules)
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > More Options > 4 Create Schedule
Where alerts show
- The alert list at the top of the page starts with a count, such as "12 Total Alerts", followed by the number of Critical and Warning alerts. Each line starts with the alert's code in a colored circle, then its name and details, such as the week, team or time slot; a critical alert's line has a red border. The first seven show; click Show More to see the rest.
- On the game's row, the same circle sits in the cell the alert is about: the date, the time slot, or the home or away team. Hover over a circle to see the alert's full name, such as "Rest Period Violated".
- The row's first cell turns yellow when the game has a warning and red when it has a critical alert.
TeamSideline works the alerts out again every time the page loads and when you click Calculate, so they always match the games on the page, saved or not.
Critical alerts: fix these before you save
| Code | Name | What it means and how to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| TC | Time Slot Conflict | "A Time Slot is listed more than once. Only two teams can occupy the time and space created by a Time Slot." Two games in this schedule use the same time slot in the same week. Move one of them to another time slot or week. Games in TBD time slots and canceled games don't count. |
| TN | Time Slot Not Selected | A game has no time slot (its Time Slot is "N/A"), or a bye isn't set up the way byes need to be. Pick a time slot for the game. For a bye, set Time Slot to "N/A" and Away to "Bye", with the team that has the bye as Home. |
| TS | Team Selected Twice | "Team name is selected twice for the same game." The same team is both Home and Away. Pick the right opponent. |
Warnings: check these, then save
| Code | Name | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| AC | Availability Conflict | The game's time isn't inside the location's Available Times, or it overlaps a blocked time, a practice or a facility reservation at that location. |
| GC | Game Conflict | A game in another division or schedule is at the same location at an overlapping time. The end of the message ("The conflict is with ...") names it. |
| OC | Overlapping Conflict | Two games in this schedule are at the same location in the same week, and one starts before the other has finished: their start times are less than the division's Game Spacing apart. |
| HC | Holiday Conflict | The game is on a date in TeamSideline's holiday list. The message names the holiday and the date. |
| RP | Rest Period Violated | The division plays 2 games per week with a Rest Period on 1 Configuration > Scheduling (0 to 5 "minimum days between games"), and the team has another game that many days away or closer. |
| GS | Game Spacing Violated | The team has two games on the same day whose start times are less than the division's Game Spacing apart. |
| SD | Same Day Games | The team plays more than once on the same day. Double header divisions aren't checked. |
| GW | Games Per Week | With 1 game per week, a team is listed more than once in a week: "Team name is listed more than once for this week. (You can leave as is or change it.)" Not checked when Odd Team Division Configuration on 3 Time Slots is All Teams Play Every Week. |
| SC | Team Schedule Conflict | The game breaks a team schedule conflict saved on 2 Teams, such as a day and time the team can't play or a team it shouldn't face. The message names the conflict type. |
| M | Multi-Team Coach Conflict | A coach of this team also coaches another team that has a game or practice too close to this game: within the Travel Time plus the Game Spacing. The message names the coach, the other team, and that game's or practice's location and time. |
| PC | Practice Conflict | The game overlaps one of the team's own practices. |
| RS | Review Scheduling | A team is scheduled for a different number of games than Games Played/Team on 1 Configuration (the message gives both numbers), or a game in a TBD time slot doesn't have a location yet. |
| B | Bye | A team has no game in a week, so the page added a bye for it. You can leave it or change it. If the team later gets a game that week, the bye is removed. |
| BR | Bye Removal | The last week held only byes, so the page removed them. |
What to do about a warning
- Move the game: change its Week or Time Slot on its row, or choose Edit Game from the game menu, then click Calc & Save.
- Fix what the game is checked against: the location's availability (AC), the team's conflicts on 2 Teams (SC) or the practice (PC).
- Leave it: warnings don't stop Calc & Save, and you can hide a warning you've checked.
Hide a warning you've checked
With the Warning Filtering permission (Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans):
- In the alert list, click the red X (Hide) at the end of the warning.
- The X turns into a check mark. The next time the page loads, the warning and its circle are gone, and the counts no longer include it.
- To bring back every warning you've hidden in this division, click Clear Filters. The button shows only while you have hidden warnings.
Hiding affects only you, and only in this division; other admins still see the warning. You can hide AC, GC, HC, RP, GS, SD, SC, M and PC warnings. Critical alerts can't be hidden, and neither can B, BR, GW, OC and RS. A hidden warning can come back after you move the game, because TeamSideline then treats it as a new warning.
Turn some warnings on or off
These settings are in Schedules > Configurations > General and apply to every division on your site:
- Locked Games ("Show warnings for Locked Games", in Schedule Messaging): with No, locked games skip several checks, such as AC, GC, SC and M.
- GPW Warnings ("Show Games per Week warnings"): turns GW on or off.
- Same Day Warnings: turns SD on or off.
- Practice Conflicts ("Show Practice Conflict warnings on Practice and Schedule pages"): turns PC on or off, along with M warnings about a coach's practices.
- Multi-Team Coach (in its own section): with Disabled, there are no M warnings about a coach's other games.
The Availability Conflicts setting in Schedule Messaging is about practices. It doesn't turn off AC warnings for games.
Change the alert colors
On the Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans, Schedules > Configurations > Schedule Alert Colors lists every alert with its Name, Short Name and Alert Type: Warning, or Error for a critical alert. Click the Edit icon on an alert, choose its Background Color and Text Color, and click Save. Revert to Default resets one alert, and Revert All To Default resets them all. By default, warnings are yellow and errors are red. Your colors change the circles, on the game rows and in the alert list, on every schedule on your site; the row's first cell stays yellow or red, and a critical alert's line keeps its red border.
Playoff and tournament pages
- Playoff and tournament bracket pages show some of the same alerts: AC, HC, OC and TC. Tournament pool play pages show most of them.
- On a tournament bracket, "Review Schedule: Feeder Game Conflict" means a bracket game starts before a game that feeds it has finished (that game's start time plus the Game Spacing). Move one of the two games. This warning has no circle.
If it doesn't work
- Calc & Save doesn't keep your changes. A critical alert (TC, TN or TS) is still in the list, so nothing was saved. Fix each one and click Calc & Save again. For example, two games in the same time slot in the same week is TC and stops the save, while a location that another division has booked at that time is GC and doesn't. Warnings never stop the save.
- Your browser asks whether you want to leave the page, for example with "Changes you made may not be saved." The page has changes that haven't been saved, which includes after a save that a critical alert stopped. Stay on the page, fix any critical alert and click Calc & Save. If you leave, the changes are lost.
- "The Schedule has changed since you started editing it. Please re-calculate the schedule and try again." Someone else saved this schedule while you were working. Reload the page, make your changes again and click Calc & Save.
- There's no red X next to the warnings. Your role or plan doesn't include Warning Filtering.
- A locked game doesn't show warnings such as AC or SC. Locked Games is set to No.
Good to know
- A schedule made with the Manual button doesn't get the GW, RP or GS checks, or the RS check on each team's number of games.
- Games in TBD time slots aren't checked for AC, HC or GS.
- Alerts are never saved with the schedule. Hiding a warning only hides it.
