Before a team has any games, you can move it to another division by dragging it there on the Reposition Teams page. The team keeps its name, contact, roster and practices; only its division changes. Once a team is in a game, Reposition Teams grays it out; then follow How to move a team to another division after games have been played instead.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans · Teams that aren't in any game yet (usually before the division's schedule is created)
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > Reposition Teams icon (two arrows) on the league's row
Move a team to another division
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- On the league's row, click the Reposition Teams icon
(the screenshot shows this two-arrow icon).
- On the Reposition Teams page, find the league. Its divisions are listed under it, along with your other active leagues for the same season and sport.
- Click the arrow
next to a division's name to show its teams (the screenshot shows this expand arrow). Teams are listed as Team Name (contact's last name).
- Drag the team and drop it on the new division's name. It's added at the end of that division's list.
What you'll see: the team is listed under its new division. The change is saved as soon as you drop the team; there's no Save button.
Other ways to drop a team
- On a team: drop it just above or below a team to put it in that spot, in the same division or another one.
- On a pool: if the division uses pools, drop the team on the pool's name to move it into that pool.
- To reorder: drag a team above or below another team in the same division to change the order the teams are listed in.
If it doesn't work
- The team is grayed out and can't be dragged. It's in at least one game on one of its division's schedules (Regular, 2nd Half or Playoff). Teams in a pool are grayed out once the division has a Regular or Playoff schedule. If the season hasn't started and no scores are in, you can delete the division's schedule, move the team and create the schedule again. Otherwise, see How to move a team to another division after games have been played.
- The division you want isn't listed. Reposition Teams shows only active leagues with the same season, period and sport as the league you started from, and for leagues linked to registration programs, the same registration type. If your admin account is limited to certain associated organizations, only their leagues are listed.
- "Team could not be repositioned. Please try again." Reload the page and drop the team directly on the division's name.
- The new division already has a schedule. The team joins it without any games. Add its games on the division's 4 Create Schedule page, or move teams before you create the schedule.
Good to know
- Only the team's division (and pool) changes. Players and coaches assigned to the team stay on its roster, and its practices stay with it. If the team has practices, moving it turns on the practice schedule for the new division.
- Registration-linked leagues: moving a team doesn't change anyone's registration. Enrollments stay in the offering they were made for, and in Team Registration programs each offering belongs to a division. If enrollments or offerings should match the new division, change them separately, or see the Team Registration article below.
- For a mid-season move after games have been played, follow How to move a team to another division after games have been played. It takes the team out of its games first, then uses Reposition Teams.
