In a Team Registration league, move a team by dragging it to its new division on Reposition Teams. That works only while the team isn't in any game: if its division already has a schedule, delete the schedule first (possible until a game is played), or ask TeamSideline support to turn on Team Registration Override so you can swap teams through temporary teams.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans (Team Registration Override is turned on by TeamSideline support) · Leagues linked to a Team Registration program
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > Reposition Teams icon (two arrows) on the league's row
Why you can't add a temporary team
On the 2 Teams page of a division linked to a Team Registration program, Add Team and Add Placeholders are grayed out and the page says: "Add Team" and "Add Placeholders" are disabled due to the registration type Team. Teams are added during the enrollment process. Each team is created when its manager registers, so the old method of parking a team's games on a temporary team only works with Team Registration Override (last section below).
Team Registration plus Youth or Adult Roster Registration leagues aren't affected: Add Team works there, so you can follow How to move a team to another division after games have been played.
Move or swap teams that aren't in any game
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- On the league's row, click the Reposition Teams icon (two arrows).
- Click the arrow next to a division's name to show its teams. Each team is listed as Team Name (team contact's last name).
- Drag the team and drop it on the new division's name. To swap two teams, drag each one to the other's division.
What you'll see: the team is listed under its new division. The move is saved as soon as you drop the team; there's no Save button. The team keeps its name, manager, roster and practices.
If the teams are already on a schedule
Reposition Teams grays out a team that is in any game on its division's Regular, 2nd Half or Playoff schedule. If no game in those schedules has been played yet:
- Open each division's 4 Create Schedule page (and its 2nd Half or Playoff page, if it has one), click Delete and click OK.
- Move the teams on Reposition Teams as described above.
- On each division's 4 Create Schedule page, click Create. The new schedule is saved; make any changes and click Calc & Save.
Deleting a schedule keeps the division's teams, time slots and settings. The Delete button disappears once any game in that schedule has been played.
If games have been played: Team Registration Override
Ask TeamSideline support to turn on Team Registration Override for your site. It turns Add Team and Add Placeholders back on in your Team Registration leagues for admins whose role includes it (the Administrator and Registrar roles do). Then, to swap Team X (Division A) with Team Y (Division B) and keep both schedules:
- On each division's Standings page, choose the team and click Print View, so you have a list of its games and scores.
- If either team has played games, open the division's Edit Scores page, clear both scores of each of those games, set Disposition to Not played and click Save. Only Not played games can be changed on 4 Create Schedule.
- On Division A's 2 Teams page, click Add Team, enter a temporary Team Name (for example, Temp A), check External Team and click Add. Add Temp B to Division B the same way.
- On Division A's 4 Create Schedule page, change Team X to Temp A in every game with the Home or Away drop-down, and click Calc & Save. Do the same for Team Y and Temp B in Division B, and in any 2nd Half or Playoff schedules.
- On Edit Scores, re-enter the scores of the games you reset in step 2 and click Save, so the other teams keep their results.
- On Reposition Teams, drag Team X to Division B and Team Y to Division A.
- On Division A's 4 Create Schedule page, change Temp A to Team Y in the games that haven't been played, and click Calc & Save. Change Temp B to Team X in Division B the same way.
- On each 2 Teams page, delete the temporary team if it has no games left. A temporary team that still has played games can't be deleted; keep it. As an external team it isn't listed in the standings.
What you'll see: each team plays the rest of the other's schedule. Their earlier results stay in their old divisions with the temporary teams. To also record a team's earlier games in its new division, see How to move a team to another division after games have been played.
Keep the registration in step
- Moving a team changes only its division. The manager's enrollment stays in the offering it was made for, and what the manager paid doesn't change.
- To make the enrollment match the new division, open the manager's account (Customers > Account Management > Search), click Enrollments, click the Edit Enrollment icon on the team's enrollment, choose the Offering and click Save. This doesn't move the team or change the fee.
- Teams that register later go to the division set in their offering's Auto Placement (edit the offering on the program's 2 Configuration page). Changing it doesn't move teams that have already registered.
- Move teams only between divisions of the program's own league. Reposition Teams also lists other leagues with the same season, sport and registration type, but a team moved into one of them shows up on that program's 4 Rosters page, while its enrollment stays in the original program.
If it doesn't work
- The team is grayed out on Reposition Teams. It's still in a game. Check the division's Regular, 2nd Half and Playoff schedules. A team in a pool can't be moved once its division has a Regular or Playoff schedule.
- The Team "(team name)" cannot be deleted because the team has been scheduled. Delete all schedules or remove the team from all schedules prior to deleting the team. The team is still in a game. Replace it in every game first, or keep it as an external team.
- A registered team is missing from every division. Deleting a registered team on 2 Teams doesn't delete it: it takes the team out of its division and lists it under Unassigned on the program's 4 Rosters page. Unassigned teams aren't shown on Reposition Teams. On 4 Rosters, click Assign Teams, select the team, choose the Division and click Assign.
- Add Team is still grayed out after support turns on the override. Your admin role doesn't include Team Registration Override. Ask an admin with the Administrator role to do the steps.
- "Team could not be repositioned. Please try again." Reload Reposition Teams and drop the team directly on the division's name.
Good to know
- The note at the top of Reposition Teams says teams can be moved only before the division has a schedule. A team that isn't in any game can still be moved.
- Team Registration Override applies to all of your Team Registration leagues. Teams added on 2 Teams aren't linked to any registration.
- To keep families from seeing a half-finished schedule, click each division's eye icon on Leagues & Divisions so it turns red while you work, and click it again when you're done.
