How you rename a league depends on where it came from. A league you added on Schedules > Leagues & Divisions is renamed on its League Edit page. A league created by a registration program takes its name from the program, so you rename the program on its 1 Setup page and the league follows.
Applies to: Admins whose role includes schedules (and Programs, for a registration-linked league) · All plans · Schedule-only and registration-linked leagues
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > Edit League icon (in the league's row); for a registration-linked league, Programs > Manage Programs > (program) > 1 Setup
Which kind of league is it?
On Schedules > Leagues & Divisions, each league has a row above its divisions that starts with "League:" and shows its name, season and sport, for example League: Spring Soccer - Spring 2026 (Soccer). The icons at the right end of that row tell you which kind of league it is:
- Schedule-only league: one you added with Add League. Its row has an Edit League icon (a pencil) and a Reposition Teams icon.
- Registration-linked league: created automatically when a registration program was added (camp programs don't have one). Its row also has an orange Linked Program icon (a chain link) and a blue Linked Rosters icon (people). On its League Edit page, League Name, Sport Type and Season are grayed out.
Rename a schedule-only league
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- In the league's row, click the Edit League icon (a pencil)
. Use the league's icon, not the Edit Division icon on a division's row.
- In League Name, type the new name (up to 100 characters).
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "The League information has been updated." and the Leagues & Divisions page, with the new name in the league's row. Your website's list of schedules shows the new name too.
Rename a league that belongs to a registration program
- On Schedules > Leagues & Divisions, click the league's orange Linked Program icon. The program's 1 Setup page opens. (You can also go to Programs > Manage Programs, click the program's name and click 1 Setup.)
- In Program Name, type the new name.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Program has been saved." On Leagues & Divisions, the league now has the program's new name. The new name also shows everywhere else the program appears, such as your registration pages.
The program controls the league's other details the same way: Program Season sets the league's season and Sport sets its sport. Each time the program's 1 Setup page is saved, the league takes the program's name, season and sport again.
What else is on League Edit
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| League Name | Required, up to 100 characters. |
| Sport Type | The league's sport. Its divisions' Age Group lists come from it. |
| Season | Either by Year and Season (a year plus Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer, one of their I or II parts, or Annual) or by Start date (Starts). The season shows next to the league's name. |
| Calendar: Background Color and Border Color | The colors of the league's games on calendars. Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans. |
| Archive | Yes, archive this league moves the league to Schedules > Archived Leagues. See How to archive a league (schedule-only or registration-linked). |
For a registration-linked league, only the calendar colors can be changed here: the name, sport and season fields and the Delete button are grayed out, and there's no Archive section.
If it doesn't work
- League Name, Sport Type and Season are grayed out. The league belongs to a registration program. Rename the program on its 1 Setup page, as above.
- There's no Edit League icon in the league's row. Your admin role doesn't include managing schedules, or the league belongs to a registration program and your role doesn't include Programs. Ask an Administrator to rename it or to update your role.
- "This League name is in use. Please use a different League name." Another current league already has that name for the same season (the same year and season, or a start date in the same month and year). Choose a different name or season. Archived leagues don't count.
- "A League Name is required." Type a name before you click Save.
- "A Year is required." or "Please select a Season from the drop-down." With by Year and Season, enter the year and choose a season.
- "The Start Date is invalid." With by Start date, pick a date in Starts.
- Save is grayed out on the program's 1 Setup page. The program is archived, or your role doesn't allow editing a program's setup. Un-archive the program on Programs > Archived Programs first, or ask an Administrator.
- The league isn't on Leagues & Divisions. It may be archived: look on Schedules > Archived Leagues. An archived league can't be edited, so un-archive it (for a registration-linked league, un-archive its program), rename it, then archive it again.
Good to know
- Renaming changes only the name. The league keeps its divisions, teams, schedules and standings, and links to its divisions' schedule pages keep working.
- A league name only has to be unique among your current leagues for the same season, so you can reuse a name every season.
- Delete on League Edit ("Are you sure you want to delete this League?") removes the league and its divisions from your admin site and your website. To put a finished league away but keep its history, archive it instead. If you delete a league by mistake, contact TeamSideline Support, who can restore it.
- To rename a division rather than a league, see How to rename or edit a division (name, gender, age group, level of play).
