To rename a division or change its gender, age group or level of play, open the division's 1 Configuration > Display page, change the fields under Division Attributes and click Save. The division keeps its teams, schedules and standings.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans · League and tournament divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > More Options > 1 Configuration > Display
Change a division's name or attributes
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- Find the division under its league and click its More Options icon (the blue square with a down arrow, last in the division's row).
- Choose 1 Configuration > Display. (Or click the division's Edit Division icon, a pencil, and then choose Display from the 1 Configuration menu.)
- Under Division Attributes, change Division Name, Gender, Age Group or Level Of Play.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page.
What you'll see: "Division configuration updated." Back on Leagues & Divisions, the division's row shows its new name, gender, age group and level of play.
The Division Attributes
| Field | What you can choose |
|---|---|
| Division Name | Required, up to 50 characters. It must be different from the names of the other divisions in the same league; capital letters don't make a name different. This is the name visitors see on your website's schedules. |
| Gender | Boys/Men, Girls/Women or Co-Ed/All Gender. |
| Age Group | The age groups set up for the league's sport. TeamSideline maintains this list. If you need an age group that isn't there, contact TeamSideline Support, who can add one for your organization; it then appears in the list. |
| Level Of Play | Recreation, Casual, Competitive, District, Professional, Select or Other. This is a fixed list: you can't add a value such as Intermediate, so pick the closest one, or Other. |
The rest of the Display page controls how the division's schedule and standings look on your website, such as Show Scores, Show Standings and Show # of Sched. Wks. See Division Display settings explained (1 Configuration > Display).
If it doesn't work
- "Division Name is required." Type a name, then click Save.
- "This Division name is in use. Please use a different Division name." Another division in the same league already has that name. Choose a different one. Divisions in different leagues can share a name.
- Every field is grayed out and there's no Save button. The division's league is archived, and archived leagues are read-only. Un-archive the league first (see How to archive a league, below).
- The age group you need isn't in the list. The list depends on the league's sport. Contact TeamSideline Support to add an age group for your organization.
- There's no Edit Division icon, or More Options has no 1 Configuration. Your admin role doesn't include managing schedules. Ask an Administrator.
Good to know
- The division keeps its teams, schedules, standings and scores. Links to its schedule page keep working, because the page's address uses the division's number, not its name.
- The season comes from the league. Leagues & Divisions shows each league as "League:" followed by its name, season and sport (for example, Spring 2026), so a division name doesn't need the year. If your division names include one, rename them each season: Copy Season copies division names exactly as they are.
- Gender, Age Group and Level Of Play are also chosen when you add a division (Add Division). You can change them here at any time while the league is current.
- If you use the Officials module, Admin Assignments offers officials for a division's games only when one of an official's Approved For entries matches the division's Age Group and Level Of Play, and its Gender unless the entry leaves Gender blank. After changing these, check your officials' Approved For entries.
- If you use Advanced Scheduling, Auto Assign places a division's games only at locations set up for its Age Group.
- To rename the league instead, see How to rename a league (schedule-only vs. registration-linked leagues).
