To schedule games between teams in two divisions of the same league, create each division's schedule as usual, then add the cross-division games on one division's 4 Create Schedule page with Add Game. Its Home and Away lists include the teams of the league's other divisions. Elite and Enterprise organizations can also use the Cross Division division type, which builds such a schedule for two linked divisions.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans (the Cross Division division type needs the Elite or Enterprise plan) · Standard divisions in the same league
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > More Options > 4 Create Schedule > Add Game
Add cross-division games to existing schedules
The example uses Division A and Division B in the same league. Each team plays 18 games: 12 inside its own division and 6 against the other division.
- Set up both divisions as Standard divisions in the same league: complete 1 Configuration, 2 Teams and 3 Time Slots for each.
- On each division's 1 Configuration > Scheduling page, set Games Played/Team to the games played inside the division (12 in the example).
- On each division's 4 Create Schedule page, click Create.
- On Division A's 4 Create Schedule page, click Add Game.
- Choose the Week and a Time Slot. In Home or Away, pick a Division A team and, in the other list, a Division B team. Teams from other divisions are listed as "Division, Team".
- Click Add. Repeat for each cross-division game.
- Click Calc & Save.
- Optional: on each division's 1 Configuration > Scheduling page, raise Games Played/Team to the new total (18 in the example). Otherwise each team shows the yellow RS "Review Scheduling" warning, which only says that the team's number of games doesn't match the setting.
What you'll see: the cross-division games appear on both divisions' 4 Create Schedule pages and on both public schedules, marked with the Cross Division Team icon. You can change them only on the 4 Create Schedule page of the division where you added them (Division A in the example). On the other division's page they're read-only.
How cross-division games count in standings
- By default, each team's result counts in its own division's standings. The opponent from the other division isn't listed in that division's standings table.
- To leave all cross-division games out of a division's standings, set Exclude Cross Division to Yes on that division's 1 Configuration > Scoring page ("Exclude all cross division games in standings.").
- To leave out one game, open Edit Scores from the division's More Options menu, check Hide in Standings for that game and click Save. Use the Edit Scores page of the division where the game was added; the other division's page doesn't list it.
- When you save scores on the Edit Scores page of the division where the games were added, the other division's standings are updated too. If a division's standings look out of date, open its Edit Scores page and click Standings Update Only.
- A playoff bracket seeded By Standings fills in once every regular-season game on the division's own schedule has a result. In the example, the cross-division games were added on Division A's page, so they count in Division B's standings but aren't part of Division B's check, and its bracket can fill in before those games are played. To avoid that, choose Manual as Division B's Playoff Seed Method before you create its playoff schedule.
Use the Cross Division division type (Elite and Enterprise)
- On Leagues & Divisions, click Add Division and choose Division Type Cross Division.
- Choose the League, enter both division names (Division Name, then the name after "cross with"), fill in Gender, Age Group and Level Of Play, and click Add. Two linked divisions are created.
- Add each division's teams on its 2 Teams page.
- On the first division, complete 1 Configuration and 3 Time Slots. On its 1 Configuration > Scheduling page, set Cross Game Density (1 to 5, "Number of cross over games per game set").
- On the first division's 4 Create Schedule page, click Create.
The second division's schedule settings are locked and it has no Create button: both divisions' schedules are created, and deleted, from the first division. Cross Division divisions show the Cross Division icon on Leagues & Divisions.
If it doesn't work
- "Only one team can be from another division." Add the game on the 4 Create Schedule page of one of the two teams' divisions, and pick the other team from the "Division, Team" entries.
- "You cannot add a bye for a team in another division." Byes can only be added for the division's own teams.
- "Week selection required.", "Time Slot selection required.", "Home team selection required." or "Away team selection required." Fill in every field in the Add Game panel.
- The other division's teams aren't in the list. Only divisions of the same league are listed. For teams outside the league, see How to create a schedule for External Teams.
- A cross-division game can't be changed. Open the 4 Create Schedule page of the division where it was added. Played games can't be changed on 4 Create Schedule.
- Cross Division is grayed out in Division Type. The list says "Disabled options are part of an upgraded package." The Cross Division division type is part of the Elite and Enterprise plans. Adding cross-division games with Add Game works on every plan.
- Add Game isn't on 4 Create Schedule. It appears after the division's schedule has been created.
Can a team play in two divisions?
A team belongs to one division. To have it play teams from another division, add cross-division games as described above; its results count in its own division's standings. If it must also appear in the other division's standings table, add a team with the same name on that division's 2 Teams page. The two are separate teams with separate games, records and rosters.
