To edit your Editor 2.0 website, sign in to your TeamSideline admin site and go to Content > Site Editor; the editor opens in the same browser tab, already signed in. If Site Editor isn't in your menu, your organization doesn't have Editor 2.0 yet or your admin role doesn't include Site Editor access.
Applies to: Org admins whose role includes Site Editor access, such as Administrator or Content Editor · All plans, for organizations with Editor 2.0 (the CMS module) · Editor 2.0 (CMS)
Where: Content > Site Editor
Open the Site Editor
- Sign in to your TeamSideline admin site the way you always do.
- Go to Content > Site Editor. If you see two Content menus, use the one that has Site Editor and Checkout Instructions.
- Wait a moment while TeamSideline signs you in to the editor. It opens in the same tab.
- Make your changes, then click Republish to put them on your live website.
To keep your admin site open, right-click Site Editor and open it in a new tab. Open the editor from Content > Site Editor each time: that's what signs you in to it.
What you'll see
Your website's page is in the middle of the screen, with these areas around it:
| Area | What it does |
|---|---|
| Left sidebar | Tools to add content and manage your pages, layers, theme and settings: Add, Pages, Layers, Theme, CMS, SEO/AEO and More |
| Top bar, left | A page list to switch between pages |
| Top bar, center | Desktop, tablet and mobile views |
| Top bar, right | Undo and Redo, Preview, and the orange Republish button |
| Canvas, center | Your page: click anything on it to select and edit it |
| Right panel | Options for whatever you selected |
Before your new site goes live
While your new website is in preview, edit it at Content > Site Editor. Your other Content menu, with Page Edit, Home Page Banner and the rest, still changes the website visitors see today. Once the new website goes live, visitors see it instead.
If you can't open it
- Your Content menu has Page Edit, Home Page Banner and News Items, but no Site Editor. Your organization uses the legacy content editor. To check, go to Administration > Subscription: Modules on the Summary page lists CMS only when you have Editor 2.0. To move to Editor 2.0, see CMS: Which website editor do I have? Legacy Content vs. Editor 2.0.
- Your organization has Editor 2.0, but Site Editor isn't in your menu, or opening it takes you to the admin Sign In page. Your admin role doesn't include Site Editor access. An admin who manages users can add it: go to Administration > Manage Users, click the Edit icon next to your name, open the Roles tab, check Content Editor (or Administrator) and click Save. They'll see "The user has been updated." The Page Editor role doesn't include Site Editor access.
- "Content Site has not been set up." Your organization's new website isn't connected yet. Contact TeamSideline Support.
- "Unable to access the Site Editor. You do not have sufficient permissions to access this site." Your editor sign-in doesn't have access to your website. Contact TeamSideline Support.
- "Unable to access the Site Editor. An error occurred while generating the login link. Please contact support if this issue persists." Try again in a few minutes. If it keeps happening, contact TeamSideline Support.
- "Email required" or "Email not valid". Your admin account's email address is missing or not valid. Click your name at the top right, open the Email tab of your User Profile, correct the address and try again.
- Part of a page shows View Only. That part is locked on purpose, such as the header, the footer or a TeamSideline section. See CMS: Why can't I edit the header, footer or some page text? (View Only and locked areas).
- The editor shows an Upgrade prompt. Some website-builder tools aren't included with TeamSideline websites. Contact TeamSideline Support instead of using the prompt.
- You're on an iPad or phone. The Site Editor is built for a computer's web browser and may not open or work well on a tablet or phone. Use a laptop or desktop computer.
When TeamSideline can't open the editor, it takes you back to your Home page and shows the message there.
Good to know
- Each admin gets their own sign-in to the editor, set up the first time they open Site Editor. When an admin is removed on Manage Users, their editor access is removed too.
- Some editor tools are kept for TeamSideline staff, such as working with code, connecting a domain and resetting the site. Ask TeamSideline Support for these.
- The TeamSideline sections on your website, such as programs, policies, the Store and Donations, show information from your admin site, so you change that information there, not in the Site Editor.
