In a Double Header/Same Team division, two teams play each other twice in a row, and home and away switch for the second game. Set Games per Week/Team to 2 and 2 Game Configuration to Double Header/Same Team on the division's 1 Configuration page, add Game 1 and Game 2 time slots on 3 Time Slots, then click Create on 4 Create Schedule. You need at least half the number of teams, rounded down, of each kind of time slot.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans · League divisions (Division Type Standard)
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > 1 Configuration > Scheduling, then 3 Time Slots and 4 Create Schedule
Step 1: Choose Double Header/Same Team
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions and click the division's Edit Division icon (pencil) to open 1 Configuration > Scheduling.
- Under Division Schedule Types, make sure Regular is ticked.
- Set Games per Week/Team to 2.
- Set 2 Game Configuration to Double Header/Same Team.
- Choose Games Played/Team. Count both games of each double header: 12 means six double headers. With an odd number, the last week has a single game.
- Set the Day of First Game and the Game Spacing (the time between the start of each game).
- Click Save and Next Step.
- On 2 Teams, add your teams and click Next Step.
Step 2: Add Game 1 and Game 2 time slots
A Game 1 time slot holds the first game of a matchup, and a Game 2 time slot holds the rematch. For 10 or 11 teams you need at least 5 Game 1 and 5 Game 2 time slots. (3 Time Slots states the total as one time slot per team.)
- On 3 Time Slots, click Add Time Slot.
- Choose the Day, Start Time and Location for the first games, set Game to 1 and click Add.
- Add the rematch time slots the same way with Game set to 2, usually one Game Spacing later at the same locations.
- Check the pairs in the Slot column of the time slot list.
TeamSideline pairs the first Game 1 time slot with the first Game 2 time slot, the second with the second, and so on, in the order of the list. Each paired Game 2 row shows its own letter and its partner's, so "F - A" means time slot F holds the rematch of the game in time slot A. To change a pair, drag the rows into a different order, drag a row into the other Game group to switch it between Game 1 and Game 2, or click the row's Edit icon and change Game.
The image shows the 3 Time Slots list of a same-team double header division, with Game 1 and Game 2 time slots and the letters on the left that show which time slots are paired.
Step 3: Create the schedule
- On 4 Create Schedule, click Create.
- Review the games. Each matchup appears twice, in a Game 1 time slot and its paired Game 2 time slot, with home and away switched.
- Make any changes, click Calculate to preview them, then click Calc & Save.
- On Leagues & Divisions, click the division's red eye icon so it turns green and the schedule shows on your site.
What you'll see: "Your schedule has been created and saved for you to review." With an odd number of teams, one team has a bye each week; this setting has no All Teams Play Every Week option.
If it doesn't work
- There's no Create button. Create needs at least half the teams, rounded down, as Game 1 time slots and the same number as Game 2 time slots, plus a Day of First Game and at least 2 teams.
- "Game is required." Choose Game 1 or 2 when you add a time slot.
- Some matchups have no rematch. A Game 1 time slot without a Game 2 partner gets only one game. Add Game 2 time slots until every Game 1 time slot has a partner. If the schedule already exists, click Delete on 4 Create Schedule (offered until a game is played), fix the time slots and click Create again.
- The rematch isn't right after the first game. The pairs follow the list order, not the start time or field. Put the time slots in matching order, then delete the schedule and create it again.
- The last week has only one game. Games Played/Team is an odd number.
Good to know
- Same-team double headers are built automatically and don't need a saved pattern.
- Block A Week isn't offered on 3 Time Slots when teams play 2 games a week.
- 4 Create Schedule doesn't show Same Day Games (SD) warnings for double header divisions.
- TeamSideline support can turn on the Gap Identification and Gap Distribution tables on 4 Create Schedule, which show the wait between each team's two games.
