To add a page you write yourself to your website's menu, go to Content > Configurations > Site Pages, right-click Menu Pages and choose Add Custom Page. Rename it, drag it into place and click Save, then write the page in Content > Page Edit.
Applies to: Org admins whose role includes Site Pages · All plans · Legacy content editor
Where: Content > Configurations > Site Pages; Content > Page Edit
Add a custom page to your menu
- Go to Content > Configurations > Site Pages.
- Right-click Menu Pages and choose Add Custom Page. To put the page in a drop-down menu, right-click that page group instead. A page named New Custom Page appears at the top of the group.
- Double-click New Custom Page, type the page's name and click anywhere outside the name.
- Drag the page to where it should be in your menu. Your menu shows the tabs in the order of this list.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "The changes to your menus have been saved." The new tab is on your menu bar. The page is blank until you write it.
Write the page
- Go to Content > Page Edit.
- In Page to Edit, choose your new page. It's listed under Menu Pages.
- Add your text, pictures and links, and click Save.
What you'll see: "Page content updated." For help with the editor, see How to edit a page's content with Page Edit (Legacy content editor).
To write a page before visitors see it, add it under Standalone Pages first, then drag it into Menu Pages and click Save when it's ready.
Choose where the page goes
Site Pages has five groups. To start a page in another group, right-click Standalone Pages, User Secured Pages or Admin Secured Pages and choose Add Custom Page. To move a custom page, drag it to another group and click Save.
| Group | Who it's for | How visitors get there |
|---|---|---|
| Menu Pages | Everyone | A tab on your menu bar, or a page in a drop-down |
| Standalone Pages | Anyone with the link | A link you share. The page isn't on your menu or protected. |
| User Secured Pages | People with an account with your organization | A link you share. Visitors who aren't signed in are asked to sign in first. |
| Admin Secured Pages | Your organization's admins | A link you share. Visitors who aren't signed in are sent to the admin sign-in page. |
| Archived Pages | Pages you've retired | None: archived pages keep their text but leave your menu and the Links drop-down. |
Only custom pages can go into Standalone, User Secured, Admin Secured or Archived Pages. To link to a page that isn't on your menu, use the Links drop-down, which lists Standalone Pages, User Secured Pages and Admin Secured Pages.
Add a built-in page or an Entry Form
- Right-click Menu Pages (or a page group) and choose Add Standard Page, then the page. Or choose Add Entry Form, then the form, to add a tab that opens one of your Entry Forms.
- The tab is added at the end of the group. Drag it into place.
- Click Save.
Built-in (standard) pages are pages TeamSideline builds from your information, such as Store, Donations, Sponsors, Boundary Check (visitors check whether an address is inside your boundaries) and Facilities (facility reservations). The list shows only the ones your organization can use and hasn't added yet; Facilities, for example, needs the Facility module. You don't write these pages in Page Edit, though some have a header or instructions section you can edit there.
Add a drop-down menu or a tab to another website
- Drop-down menu: right-click Menu Pages and choose Add Page Group. Double-click New Tab Group to rename it, drag pages onto it and click Save. Your menu can be three levels deep.
- Tab to another website: click Add External Tab at the top of Site Pages, enter the Tab Name (up to 50 characters) and the External URL (up to 200 characters, starting with http:// or https://) and click Add. The tab is added at the end of Menu Pages: drag it into place and click Save.
- Fix a broken external tab: its address can't be edited. Right-click the tab, choose Delete Page, add a new external tab with the right address and click Save.
To rename, reorder or hide tabs, see How to rename, reorder or hide a menu tab (Legacy content editor).
If it doesn't work
- "You cannot use the name "(name)" because it contains the character "+"." Leave the plus sign out of the name.
- "You cannot use the name "(name)" because it is already in use on a Custom Page. Reverting back to previous name." Another custom page has that name, whatever the capital letters. Choose a different name.
- "You cannot save the menus in their current configuration. The Custom Page name "(name)" is used more then once." Two pages share a name, often two pages still called New Custom Page. Rename one.
- "You cannot save the menus in their current configuration. One or more pages has no name." Double-click the unnamed page and type a name.
- "You cannot save the menus in their current configuration. You have at least one empty tab group." Drag a page into the empty page group, or delete the group.
- "You cannot move Standard Pages, Entry Forms, or Page Groups to this level. You may only move Custom Pages here." Built-in pages, Entry Forms and page groups can only be on the menu.
- "You cannot add this tab here because the menu doesn't support more then three levels." Add the page one level higher.
- "Invalid Exteranl URL format. URL's should start with "http://" or "https://"." Start the External URL with http:// or https://.
- The new page isn't in Page to Edit, or the tab isn't on your website. Go back to Site Pages, add it again and click Save. Leaving Site Pages without saving discards your changes.
- There's no Add Standard Page or Add Entry Form option. Every built-in page you can add is already in Site Pages, or you have no Entry Forms.
- You can't open Site Pages. Your admin role doesn't include it. Ask an admin who manages your website.
Good to know
- Custom page names must be unique and can't contain a plus sign (+). Avoid other symbols, such as &, % and commas, too.
- Settle on the name before you share links. Renaming a custom page later gives it a new web address, and links made before the rename no longer show its content.
- Your menu must keep the built-in Home page. You can rename it, but you can't remove it.
- Don't put anything confidential on a website page, such as contact lists or medical information, even on a standalone or secured page.
- Websites built with Editor 2.0 add pages in the Site Editor instead. Once your organization's new website is live, visitors are sent to it, so changes in Site Pages no longer show.
