Admin Secured Pages are custom pages meant for your organization's admins. Create one on Content > Configurations > Site Pages, write it in Content > Page Edit, then put a link to it on your admins' Home page with a section on Content > Configurations > Sidebar Links whose Display Location is Admin Site Map. A visitor who isn't signed in and opens the page is sent to your admin sign-in page first.
Applies to: Org admins and content editors whose role includes Site Pages, Page Edit and Sidebar Links · All plans · Legacy content editor
Where: Content > Configurations > Site Pages; Content > Page Edit; Content > Configurations > Sidebar Links
Step 1: Create the page
- Go to Content > Configurations > Site Pages.
- Right-click Admin Secured Pages and choose Add Custom Page. A page named New Custom Page appears at the top of the group.
- Double-click New Custom Page, type the page's name and click anywhere outside the name.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "The changes to your menus have been saved." The page is listed under Admin Secured Pages and isn't on your website's menu. The picture below shows the right-click menu on Admin Secured Pages with Add Custom Page.
To use a custom page you already have instead, drag it into Admin Secured Pages and click Save.
Step 2: Write the page
- Go to Content > Page Edit.
- In Page to Edit, choose your page. It's listed under Admin Secured Pages.
- Add your text, pictures and links, and click Save.
What you'll see: "Page content updated."
Step 3: Add a section to your admins' Home page
- Go to Content > Configurations > Sidebar Links.
- Click Add Section.
- In Section Name, type the heading admins will see, such as Admin Only (up to 25 characters).
- In Display Location, choose Admin Site Map.
- Check Visible.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: "The Section was successfully created." The section is in the list with Admin Site Map under Display Location.
Step 4: Add the link to the page
- Click Add Link.
- In Link Type, choose Page.
- In Link Name, type the words admins will click (up to 30 characters).
- In Page, choose your page. The list is in name order and includes your Admin Secured Pages.
- In Assigned Section, choose the section you added in Step 3.
- Check Visible.
- In Open in New Window, choose Yes to open the page in a new browser tab, or No.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: "The link was successfully created." The picture below shows the Add Link form filled in with Link Type Page, the page and the section.
What admins see
When an admin opens Home, the admin start page, your section appears as its own group, after TeamSideline's groups, with the link under it. Every admin of your organization sees it. Clicking the link opens the page on your website. The picture below shows an Admin Only section with one link.
A visitor who isn't signed in and opens the page's address is sent to your admin sign-in page, which says "Please sign in to access the admin secured page." After an admin signs in there, the page opens.
If it doesn't work
- "You cannot move Standard Pages, Entry Forms, or Page Groups to this level. You may only move Custom Pages here." Only custom pages can go in Admin Secured Pages.
- "You cannot use the name "(name)" because it contains the character "+"." Leave the plus sign out of the page's name.
- "You cannot use the name "(name)" because it is already in use on a Custom Page. Reverting back to previous name." Another custom page has that name. Choose a different one.
- The page isn't in Page to Edit or in the link's Page list. Go back to Site Pages and click Save. Leaving Site Pages without saving discards the new page.
- "Section Name is required." or "Display Location is required." Fill in both, then click Add.
- "You must select a Page to add.", "You must enter a Link Name." or "Assigned Section is required." Choose the page, type a Link Name and choose the section (add the section first, in Step 3).
- Admins don't see the section on Home. The section and its link must both be visible: their eye icons are green, and a red eye means hidden. The section needs at least one visible link, and its Display Location must be Admin Site Map.
- The link shows on your public pages instead. The section's Display Location is Left, Right, Bottom or Split Display. Click the section's Edit icon (pencil), choose Admin Site Map and click Save.
- You can't open Site Pages or Sidebar Links. Your admin role doesn't include them. Ask an admin who manages your website.
Good to know
- Don't put anything confidential on a website page, such as contact lists, medical information or passwords, even on a secured page. Share it with the people who need it another way.
- Page Edit's Links drop-down also lists your Admin Secured Pages. Link to them only from places admins use, not from your public pages.
- Renaming a custom page gives it a new address. After a rename, delete the page's link on Sidebar Links and add it again.
- For a page your members see after they sign in, use User Secured Pages instead. See How to create a hidden page only people with the link can see (Legacy content editor).
- Sidebar Links can put other admin shortcuts on Home too: a file (Download), an Entry Form, a web address (URL), or Contact Us, Schedules or Boundary Lookup (Features).
- If your website uses Editor 2.0, add the section and link on Content > Configurations > Site Links instead. Once your organization's Editor 2.0 website is live, visitors to your legacy website's pages are sent to the new website, so pages in Site Pages no longer show.
