TeamSideline signs you out after 24 hours without activity and when its web servers restart each night at about 2:00 AM Pacific Time, and it keeps the working state of only your last 20 pages across all your browser tabs, so a button in an older tab can bring up an error page that says "You Have Encountered an Error". Sign in again or open the page again from the menu, then redo any change you hadn't saved.
Applies to: Admins, coaches, team staff, parents and players signed in with a web browser · All plans · The admin site, Team Sites and your family account on your organization's website
Where: Any page you're signed in to. To sign back in: Admin Sign In (admins) or Sign In (everyone else) on your organization's website, or your Team Site's sign-in page
Why you were signed out
- 24 hours without activity. Your sign-in lasts 24 hours from the last time you opened a page or clicked something that loaded one. After that, the next page you open takes you to the sign-in page: Admin Sign In from the admin site, Sign In from your family account, or the Team Site sign-in from a Team Site.
- The nightly restart. TeamSideline's web servers restart every night at about 2:00 AM Pacific Time (5:00 AM Eastern) to keep the site running smoothly during the day, and everyone who is signed in is signed out.
- The timeout warning wasn't answered. When a page stays open for a long time without another page loading, a message appears: "Your Session is About to Expire!" with "Your session is about to expire. Click the Sign Out button to sign out immediately, or click the Stay Connected button to continue your session." If nobody clicks Stay Connected, that tab signs you out.
- You signed out, or signed in as someone else, in another tab. All the tabs of one browser share one sign-in. Signing out in one tab signs you out of all of them, and signing in with a different email address in one tab replaces the account in every tab.
Why an older tab shows "You Have Encountered an Error"
As you work, TeamSideline keeps the state of each page you load, such as the lists and choices on it, for your last 20 pages in that browser. All your tabs share those 20, and every page you open and every button that reloads a page uses one. When you go back to a tab whose page is older than that and click a button such as Save or Next, TeamSideline no longer has that page's state, and you see an error page instead.
The error page's heading is "You Have Encountered an Error". It used to say "Oops!", so you may hear it called the Oops page. The same page also appears when your sign-in has expired, when you try something your role doesn't allow, or when a page doesn't exist.
How to get back to work
- If you're on a sign-in page, sign in again with your email address and password.
- Open the page you were working on from the menu. After you sign in to the admin site you start on Home, not on the page you were on.
- If you're on the error page, go back to your organization's website or admin site yourself. Don't use the browser's Back button to return to the old form, and note that the error page's Home button goes to TeamSideline's own website, not your organization's.
- Enter again anything you hadn't saved, and save it.
What you'll see: when the timeout warning signs an admin out, the Admin Sign In page shows "You are now signed out. Thank you for using TeamSideline." After you sign in to the admin site, you're on the admin Home page.
If it doesn't work
- You're signed out again soon after you sign in. Close the TeamSideline tabs you aren't using: each open page runs its own timeout warning, so an idle tab can sign you out of every tab while you're working in another one. Also check that your browser allows cookies for your organization's website, since TeamSideline needs them to keep you signed in.
- The error page appears on a page you just opened, or keeps appearing. That isn't the 20-page limit. Click System Status on the error page to check for a known problem, then contact TeamSideline Support with the page's address, the time and what you clicked.
- "Your Session is About to Expire!" appears while you're working. Click Stay Connected. The warning counts from when the page opened: typing, scrolling and actions that don't load a new page don't reset it, so save long work as you go.
Good to know
- TeamSideline never closes your browser window or tab by itself. It only takes the tab to another page, such as the sign-in page.
- The 24-hour limit and the nightly restart apply to everyone. They can't be changed for one organization or one person.
- Work in one tab at a time where you can, and save before you switch to another tab.
- Each browser keeps its own sign-in, so a second browser or a private window has its own sign-in and its own 20 pages.
