No. TeamSideline doesn't provide email inboxes for your domain, so use an email provider such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho Mail for addresses like info@yourleague.org. Organizations that already have Mailboxes, a legacy feature that forwards addresses on your domain to people's existing inboxes, can keep using it for now, but it isn't offered to new organizations and will be retired.
Applies to: Admins · All plans (forwarding addresses: only organizations that already have Mailboxes, a legacy feature) · Organizations with their own domain
Where: Communications > Mail Administration > Mailboxes
Choose an email provider
- Google Workspace: Gmail, Calendar and Drive on your domain. Eligible nonprofits can apply through Google for Nonprofits for a no-cost Workspace edition, once Google verifies the organization's nonprofit status. See How to Sign Up for Google Workspace for Nonprofits.
- Microsoft 365: a good fit if your volunteers already use Outlook. Microsoft also offers plans for nonprofits.
- Zoho Mail: ad-free business email at a low cost, with a free option for small teams.
Connect the provider to your domain
- Sign up with the provider and add your domain there. The provider shows the DNS records it needs, usually a TXT record to verify the domain and MX records that route your email.
- Create the mailboxes your people need in the provider before the MX records change, so no email is lost.
- If your domain uses TeamSideline's nameservers, email the records to support@teamsideline.com and support adds them. If your domain's DNS is with your registrar or another DNS host, add the records there.
- Finish the provider's setup once it confirms the records.
Rules inside the provider, such as forwarding from a Google Workspace mailbox, are set up in the provider, not by TeamSideline.
Forwarding addresses with Mailboxes (legacy)
Mailboxes is a legacy feature. It's no longer offered to new organizations, and organizations that have it can keep using it until it's retired, so plan your move to an email provider.
With Mailboxes, an address on your domain forwards every message to one or more existing email addresses, so info@yourleague.org can reach your secretary's own inbox. It's a forwarder only: no one signs in to it or sends email from it.
- Go to Communications > Mail Administration > Mailboxes, and choose your domain in Post Office.
- Click Add Mailbox.
- In User Name, enter the part of the address before the @, such as info.
- In Redirect Address, enter the address that should receive the mail. Separate several addresses with commas.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: "Mailbox added." and the new address in the Source and Destination list. To change where an address forwards, click its edit icon, change Redirect Address and click Save ("Mailbox forwarder updated."). To remove it, click its red X and confirm ("Mailbox deleted.").
If it doesn't work
- "No post offices configured. Please contact TeamSideline Support to add mailboxes to your subscription." Your organization doesn't have Mailboxes. It's no longer offered to new organizations, so set up an email provider instead (see Choose an email provider).
- "Emails may not redirect to the same domain." A forwarding address can't forward to another address on the same domain. Use the person's own inbox address.
- "This mailbox already exists." That address is already set up. Edit it instead.
- "Redirect Email field is invalid. (Check for extra comma)" Remove the extra comma from Redirect Address.
- Forwarded email doesn't arrive. Check the receiving inbox's spam folder and filters, and the spelling of the Redirect Address.
- Email stopped after a nameserver change. The domain's email (MX) records weren't carried over to the new DNS. Ask support, or whoever manages your domain, to restore them.
Good to know
- Changing your domain's nameservers keeps email working only if its email (MX) records are copied to the new DNS. When your domain is moved to TeamSideline's nameservers, tell support which email service you use so its records are kept.
- Never email passwords to support, whether for your email provider, your registrar or TeamSideline. Support only needs the DNS records your provider gives you.
- Forwarding addresses and an email provider both rely on the domain's MX records, so a domain normally uses one or the other. Ask support before you switch.
- Mailboxes only forwards email: adding, changing or deleting a forwarding address doesn't change anything on your website, such as an email address shown on a page.
- If you use Mailboxes today, move your forwarding addresses to your email provider before Mailboxes is retired. Most providers can forward an address or add it to a mailbox as an alias.
