In a league that comes from a Team Registration program, Add Team and Add Placeholders on a division's 2 Teams page are turned off, because each team is created when its manager registers it. To add, rename, remove or move a team, work through its registration and Reposition Teams instead, as shown below.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans · Leagues linked to a Team Registration program (regular and tournament divisions)
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > 2 Teams
What you'll see
On the division's 2 Teams page, Add Team and Add Placeholders are grayed out and the page shows: "Add Team" and "Add Placeholders" are disabled due to the registration type Team. Teams are added during the enrollment process.
The rest of the page still works. You can edit a team with its Edit icon (pencil), open its roster and add team schedule conflicts.
Only leagues that come from a Team Registration program show this. Leagues for Team Registration plus Youth Roster Registration and Team Registration plus Adult Roster Registration programs don't, but a team typed in on their 2 Teams page has no manager and no registration, so add those teams through registration too.
How to add, rename, remove or move a team
Add a team
A team is added when its manager registers it on your website. To register a team for a manager yourself:
- Go to Customers > Account Management > Search and open the manager's account.
- Click Place Order, then Add Enrollment.
- Choose the manager as the Enrollee, General as the Enrollment Type, then the Team Registration Program and the Offering. Click Add, then Checkout.
- Enter the Team Name on the enrollment page, finish checkout and place the order.
What you'll see: the team is created in the division set in its offering's Auto Placement. If the offering has none, the team waits on the program's 4 Rosters page until you click Assign Teams, select it, choose the Division and click Assign.
Rename a team
- Open the manager's account (Customers > Account Management > Search) and click Enrollments.
- Click the Edit Enrollment icon on the team's enrollment.
- Change Team Name and click Save.
Saving the enrollment renames the team everywhere it shows, including 2 Teams, schedules and standings. To find a team's registration quickly, use Reports > Report Dashboards > Team Enrollments: each row's Options menu has Edit Enrollment.
Remove a team
- Open the team's enrollment with Edit Enrollment, as above.
- Click the Cancel tab and complete the cancellation, including any refund or credit of the team fee.
If the team isn't in any game, canceling its enrollment removes it from the division. If it is, you'll see "Team will not be removed with cancelled enrollment due to existing schedules." The enrollment is still canceled, but the team stays on the schedule. If no game has been played yet, delete the division's schedule, delete the team on 2 Teams and create the schedule again. Otherwise, click the team's Edit icon on 2 Teams and check External Team to keep it out of the standings.
The red X on 2 Teams doesn't delete a team whose registration is still active. It only takes the team out of its division, and the team waits on the program's 4 Rosters page to be assigned again.
Move a team to another division
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- On the league's row, click the Reposition Teams icon (two arrows).
- Drag the team and drop it on the new division's name.
A team that's in any game is grayed out on Reposition Teams. To move or swap teams that are already on a schedule, see How to swap or move teams between divisions in a Team Registration league.
Team Registration Override
TeamSideline support can turn on a setting called Team Registration Override for your site. It turns Add Team and Add Placeholders back on in your Team Registration leagues for admins whose role includes it (the Administrator and Registrar roles do). It's mostly used to move or swap a team that has already played games, which needs a temporary stand-in team. Teams added this way aren't linked to any registration, so they have no manager and no registration roster. To ask about it, use Help > Contact Support in your admin site.
If it doesn't work
- Add Team or Add Placeholders is grayed out without that message. The league is archived, or your admin role doesn't include adding or editing teams. Archived leagues also gray out Add Conflict.
- Add Team is still grayed out after the override was turned on. Your admin role doesn't include Team Registration Override. Ask an admin with the Administrator role to make the change.
- "The Team "(team name)" cannot be deleted because the team has been scheduled. Delete all schedules or remove the team from all schedules prior to deleting the team." The team is still in a game. Delete the division's schedule if no game has been played, or replace the team in each game with another team.
- A registered team disappeared from 2 Teams after you clicked the red X. It wasn't deleted. On the program's 4 Rosters page, click Assign Teams, select the team, choose the Division and click Assign.
Good to know
- Leagues you create yourself on Leagues & Divisions, without a program, aren't affected.
- On the Edit Team page, the Team Name box shows "Team Name defined in Program Enrollment." and can be changed only by admins whose role includes Edit Team Name. Renaming there changes the team but not its registration, so rename through the enrollment to keep both the same.
- Team registrations can't be transferred to another program: Edit Enrollment has no Transfer tab for them.
