To cancel one game, set its Disposition to Canceled on the division's Edit Scores page. To cancel many games at once, for example for weather, use Schedules > Multi Game Cancel (Enhanced plan and up). Reschedule a canceled game on 4 Create Schedule with Reschedule Game, and undo a cancellation by setting the game back to Not played. Playoff games can't be canceled; move them instead.
Applies to: Admins and schedulers · All plans (Multi Game Cancel: Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise) · Regular-season and 2nd half games in league divisions
Where: Schedules > Leagues & Divisions > (division) > Edit Scores; Schedules > Multi Game Cancel; (division) > 4 Create Schedule
Before you start:
- If you are using the Officials module, please ensure that your scheduler reviews the Officials Module - Editing and Cancelling Games article for understanding if the Official will move with the reschedule game or not.
- TeamSideline emails a "Schedule Update Notification" about canceled and moved games when On Game Change is Yes on the division's 1 Configuration > Communication page (Enhanced plan and up) and the schedule is visible on your site. It goes to the primary and alternate contacts on 2 Teams (all teams or only the impacted teams, as set in Send To), and to rosters, officials and location contacts if you include them.
- TeamSideline waits until the schedule has had no changes for 5 minutes, then sends one notification for them, usually within about 10 minutes of your last change.
- Recipients who use the TeamSideline app also get a push notification for the email, unless they've turned email notifications off in the app.
- For same-day cancellations, also post a notice on your website, update the field status, and send a message from Communications > Send Communication.
Cancel one game
- Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions, open the division's More Options menu and choose Edit Scores (or click Edit Scores on the division's Standings page).
- Find the game. Games are grouped by week.
- Set its Disposition to Canceled.
- Optional: type a note in the game's comment box. It shows on the public schedule when Show Comments is Yes on 1 Configuration > Display.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Results saved and standings updated successfully." The game is shown struck through and doesn't count in standings. It shows on the public schedule only while Show Canceled Games is Yes on 1 Configuration > Display.
Cancel many games at once (Multi Game Cancel)
- Go to Schedules > Multi Game Cancel.
- Locations: every location is ticked. To cancel at only some, untick All Locations and tick the locations you need (expand the arrows to see them).
- Divisions: every division of your active leagues is ticked. Untick All Divisions and tick the ones to cancel, if needed.
- Date Range: set the start and end date and time. It starts as today, 12:00 AM to 11:30 PM.
- Reason: required. It starts as Canceled; you can choose Lightning, Maintenance, No Official, Overtime, Rained Out, Schedule Conflict, Snowed Out or Other.
- Click Update.
What you'll see: "Multiple games have been canceled." If playoff games were in the range, the message says they can't be canceled here. Move those on the division's 4 Create Schedule > Playoff page and tell the teams yourself.
Multi Game Cancel cancels every regular-season and 2nd half game in the date range at the ticked locations and divisions, including games that already have scores. Set the start time after any games that were already played. To cancel the rest of today's games, open Multi Game Cancel, change the start time to now and click Update.
Reschedule a game you canceled
- Open the division's 4 Create Schedule page (Regular or 2nd Half).
- Click the game menu icon
at the end of the canceled game's row and choose Reschedule Game.
- Choose the Reschedule Date/Time and the Location. The time list, like the one in Edit Game, offers start times every 15 minutes from 7:00 AM to 9:45 PM; for another time, type it in the box, in 5-minute steps.
- Optional: tick Highlight Game? and choose a color so the new game stands out.
- Click Update.
- Click Calc & Save.
The image in step 2 is the game menu icon on the right side of each game row.
What you'll see: the new game in the week of its new date. The canceled game stays, struck through, with a comment such as "Rained Out: Game rescheduled to [date], [time] at [location]", and its menu icon is grayed out. Auto Resolve never moves canceled games, so reschedule them with these steps.
Move a game and show the original as canceled
For a game that isn't canceled yet, you can cancel and reschedule it in one step:
- On 4 Create Schedule, click the game menu icon and choose Edit Game.
- Change the Week, Day, Time and Location.
- Tick Reschedule? and pick the reason in Choose reason, for example Rained Out or Lightning.
- Optional: tick Highlight Game? and choose a color.
- Click Update, then click Calc & Save.
The original game is marked canceled with that reason, and the new game is added. Without Reschedule?, Edit Game just moves the game.
Undo a cancellation
- Open the division's Edit Scores page.
- Set the game's Disposition back to Not played.
- Click Save.
- If you already rescheduled the game, delete the new game so the teams don't have two: on 4 Create Schedule, open its game menu, click Delete Game, then click Calc & Save.
- Multi Game Cancel has no undo. Change each game back on Edit Scores.
- Undoing a cancellation doesn't send a schedule-change email, so let the teams know.
- Canceling a game also cancels its officials' assignments, and undoing doesn't restore them. Assign the officials again.
If it doesn't work
- Update is grayed out on Multi Game Cancel. A division in your organization is running Auto Resolve, and a message names each one. Wait for the run to finish, or cancel it on that division's 4 Create Schedule page.
- Multi Game Cancel isn't in your Schedules menu. It's part of the Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans, and your admin role must include it.
- "Cancellation reason is required." Choose a Reason in Step 4.
- "Select at least one Location to update." or "Select at least one Division to update." Tick at least one in that step.
- "Start date must be less than End date." Fix the Date Range.
- A playoff game wasn't canceled. Edit Scores offers Canceled for playoff games only in Position Rounds playoffs. Move the game with its Week and Time Slot lists, or Edit Game, on 4 Create Schedule > Playoff.
- No email went out. Check that On Game Change is Yes and the schedule is visible, and allow about 10 minutes.
- There's no Reschedule Game option. The game isn't canceled (use Edit Game), or it was already rescheduled (its comment says where).
- A game has no menu icon on 4 Create Schedule. It already has a result, such as Played or a forfeit, so it can't be edited, moved or deleted there. Set its Disposition back to Not played on Edit Scores and click Save, then make the change.
Good to know
- Canceled games don't count in standings; forfeits do.
- Edit Game's Choose reason list and Multi Game Cancel's Reason list are the same: Canceled, Lightning, Maintenance, No Official, Overtime, Rained Out, Schedule Conflict, Snowed Out and Other.
- To move a game into another of the division's time slots, choose it in the game's time slot list on 4 Create Schedule (click Toggle View if the list isn't shown). A + before a time slot means it's free that week; a - means another game or booking already uses it. The marks update after you click Calc & Save.
- Field status is set on Schedules > Locations > Update Condition Status.
