The Links drop-down in the editor toolbar inserts a link to something on your site, such as a file on your Downloads page, a program, a schedule or a page, without typing the address. It's on the Page Edit and News Items pages of the legacy content editor, and on Create Your Message when you send a communication.
Applies to: Org admins · All plans · Legacy content editor and email messages (on Editor 2.0 (CMS) websites, email messages only)
Where: Content > Page Edit, Content > News Items, or Communications > Send Communication > Create Your Message
How to insert a link
- In the editor, type the text you want to turn into a link and highlight it. Or click where you want the link to go.
- Click the Links drop-down on the editor's toolbar. On Page Edit and Send Communication it comes after the table and horizontal-line buttons; on News Items it starts the last group of buttons, just before the indent and list buttons. Page Edit opens in the Content Builder by default: there, click the Links/Assets button, which opens the same list, or click Switch to Editor if your role has the Legacy Editor permission.
- Click the plus sign next to a group, such as Downloads or Programs, to open it.
- Click the item you want to link to. The link is inserted, using the item's name if you didn't highlight any text. You can change the link's text and keep the link.
- Click Save on Page Edit or News Items. In a communication, click Next and send as usual.
A group appears only when it has something in it. For example, Downloads appears after you add a file to your Downloads page. To add one, see How do I attach meeting minutes or any document to our website for public access?
What's in the Links drop-down
Legacy websites
- Downloads: files on your Downloads page, grouped by category.
- Menu Pages, Standard Pages, Standalone Pages, User Secured Pages and Admin Secured Pages: pages on your website.
- Programs: your programs, grouped by category.
- Program Access: the access codes for private registration, listed under each program. The link takes families straight to the program with the code applied.
- Schedules: each division's standings and results, listed under its league.
- Program Access, Officials Self-Registration and Volunteer Shifts, when your organization uses them: the same links as on legacy websites, described above. They open TeamSideline's own pages, so they work with your new website.
- Entry Forms, surveys, Contact List Subscriptions, Location Check-In, Boundary Check and Officials Self-Registration, when you use those features.
- Volunteer Shifts: asks the person to sign in, then opens their volunteer page.
Editor 2.0 (CMS) websites
If your website is built in Editor 2.0 and is live, the Links drop-down in Create Your Message lists these groups (in alphabetical order in the drop-down), so every link opens the right page on your new website:
- Downloads: files on your Downloads page.
- Menu Pages: the pages in your website's navigation menu. Pages that need more information to open, such as a program details page or a team roster, aren't listed.
- Programs: your current programs. Each link opens that program's details page on your website.
- Schedules: each division. The link opens that division's schedule on your website.
- Program Access, Officials Self-Registration and Volunteer Shifts, when your organization uses them: the same links as on legacy websites, described above. They open TeamSideline's own pages, so they work with your new website.
Other groups, such as Program Access, aren't listed for these websites. To link to something else, open the page on your website, copy the address from your browser, and paste it as the link.
If it doesn't work
- A group I expect isn't in the list. It's empty, or your website is built in Editor 2.0, which lists only the groups above.
- A page is missing from Menu Pages on an Editor 2.0 website. Only pages in the site's navigation menu are listed. Add the page to the menu, or paste its address.
Good to know
- The Team Schedule Link and Team Roster Link options on the send options page add a link to each recipient's own team schedule or roster. They work on legacy and Editor 2.0 websites.
- On Editor 2.0 websites that aren't live yet, the Links drop-down shows the legacy groups.
