The legacy content editor has a few known display problems and editing limits that won't be fixed there, because it now gets fixes only for critical issues. Moving your website to Editor 2.0 is the fix. Until you move, use the workarounds below.
Applies to: Org admins and content editors · All plans · Legacy content editor
Where: Content > Page Edit; Content > News Items; Content > Downloads
Known display problems
- Pictures in rows show as one large column. Pictures you place side by side on a page, such as board member photos, can show one under another at full size on your live website even though they look right while you edit. There's no fix in the legacy editor.
- News Item formatting. Bulleted text can show in white, almost invisible, on your public News page, and pressing Backspace can white out a whole line while you edit. These won't be fixed in the legacy editor.
- A News Item picture links only on your Home page. If you set Image Link Type, the picture is a link where the News Item shows on your Home page, but not on the News page. Link the text too: see How to link News Item text to a page (Legacy content editor).
- A very large picture locks the page. The page may not save (Save stays on "Processing..." or you get an error page), or the picture can't be deleted. Shrink photos before you add them and add a few at a time, saving after each batch. If a page is already stuck, contact TeamSideline Support, who can remove the picture.
Editing limits
- No toolbar or gear icon appears. Click inside the text you want to change; if the page is empty, drag a block onto it first. If your admin role includes the Legacy Editor permission, you can also click Switch to Editor for the editor view and its toolbar.
- Fixing a page's HTML can drop its formatting. When a page is corrected in its HTML, for example to restore missing table borders, font colors, bold and alignment can be lost. Reapply them afterwards.
- Complex tables are hard to keep tidy. For schedules and standings, use TeamSideline's Schedules and Standings pages instead of a table. For other long tables, post a PDF with Content > Downloads and link it from the page: see How to add documents (PDFs) to your website with Downloads (Legacy content editor).
Good to know
- Editor 2.0 websites don't have these problems. Moving is included in your subscription: see How to move your website to Editor 2.0: steps, timeline and what transfers.
- For how Page Edit works, including its two views, see How to edit a page's content with Page Edit (Legacy content editor).
