The Division Schedule Import loads games for one division from a CSV file: a whole Regular or 2nd Half schedule, or extra games added to a schedule the division already has. Set up the division first, use each location's Schedule Name and the teams' exact names, and the games appear on the division's 4 Create Schedule page.

Division Schedule Import or League Schedules Import?
- Division Schedule Import: one division per file. The division must already exist, and you can create its schedule or add games to the one it has.
- League Schedules Import: one file for many divisions of one league. It creates missing divisions, only creates new schedules and accepts TBD games (Enhanced plan and higher). See How to import schedules for a whole league (League Schedules Import).
Before you start
- Open the division's 1 Configuration page (Schedules > Leagues & Divisions), check Regular (or 2nd Half) under Schedules, choose the Day of First Game (for a 2nd Half schedule, the 2nd Half's date too) and click Save. Every game in the file must be on or after that date.
- Check that every location in the file exists, and note its Schedule Name in the Schedule Name column of Schedules > Locations > Manage Locations.
- Check the team names on the division's 2 Teams page (2 Teams > 2nd Half for a 2nd Half schedule). Use them exactly in the file, so the games attach to those teams, including registered teams and the Team Sites linked to them.
Prepare the file
On the Import Data page, the icon in the Instructions column opens the import's instructions, and the icon in the Sample File column downloads a sample file. Use one row per game and save the file as CSV.
| Column | Required | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Yes | MM/DD/YYYY or M/D/YY, separated by /, - or . |
| Time | Yes | The start time, such as 08:00, 20:00 or 8:00 PM. A range such as 8:30pm-9:15pm isn't accepted. |
| Schedule Name | Yes | The location's Schedule Name, up to 15 characters. Capitalization doesn't matter. |
| Home Team Name, Away Team Name | Yes | Up to 30 characters each, spelled as on 2 Teams. |
| Home Associated Org, Away Associated Org | No | The name or short name of one of your associated organizations, for teams that belong to one. |
- Don't put commas inside a value, such as a team name: the upload counts columns by commas.
- Games with a TBD date, time or location can't be imported here. Add them afterward on 4 Create Schedule, or use the League Schedules Import.
- There are no score columns, so scores in your file, for example from an exported schedule, aren't imported. Enter them afterward on the division's Edit Scores page.
- In Apple Numbers, use File > Export To > CSV. Renaming a .numbers file to .csv doesn't work.
Import the file
- Go to Administration > Import Data and click Division Schedule Import in the Import Name column.
- On Step 1 of 3: Upload File, choose your CSV file in File Name, and check Includes Headers if the first row has column names.
- Choose the League, the Division and the Schedule Type (Regular or 2nd Half). In Import Mode, choose Create New if the division has no schedule of that type yet, or Add to Existing to add games to its schedule. Click Next Step.
- On Step 2 of 3: Map the Fields, choose the column from your file for each TeamSideline Field. For an associated organization column you don't use, choose No Mapping, Leave Blank. Click Next Step.
- On Step 3 of 3: Review and Confirm, fix any errors listed by Row and Field (click Back, or correct the file and start again), then click Queue Import.
What you'll see: "Your import has been successfully uploaded and will be processed shortly." The import runs in the background, and you get a Data Import Status email when it finishes. Click Status at the top of the Import Data page to see whether it succeeded, and expand the import to read its messages.
What the import does
- Create New makes the division's Regular or 2nd Half schedule from the file. Add to Existing adds every row as a new game to the schedule the division already has, so include only the new games.
- Teams are matched to the division's teams by name, ignoring capitals and extra spaces at either end, and by associated organization when you use those columns. A name with no match becomes a new team in the division, including opponents from other organizations. If the division's teams belong to an associated organization, for example teams from a registration program on a multi-organization site, fill in Home Associated Org and Away Associated Org: with those cells blank, the import looks only for teams with no associated organization and creates every team again.
- Each game uses the division's time slot with the same day, start time and location. If there isn't one, the import adds it to 3 Time Slots.
- Week numbers are counted from the Day of First Game.
- The games appear on the division's 4 Create Schedule page and wherever the division's schedule is shown, including the Team Sites linked to those teams. Games for a team the import created don't reach a registered team's Team Site.
Fix or redo an import
- A schedule import can't be reverted from the Status page.
- To redo a division's schedule, click Delete on its 4 Create Schedule page, fix the file and import again with Create New. Delete isn't offered once a game in the schedule has been played. You'll see "Your schedule has been deleted. Until you create a new schedule, no schedule will be displayed on either the Public or League Administration site Standings & Results pages."
- Extra teams from misspelled names can't be merged. Either change the team in each affected game on 4 Create Schedule and click Calc & Save, then delete the extra teams with their red X on 2 Teams; or delete the schedule, delete the extra teams, correct the names and import again.
- The Day of First Game can't be changed while the division has a schedule, so delete the schedule first if the date is wrong.
If it doesn't work
Messages when you upload or review the file
- "The file type you have chosen is not allowed. You must select a CSV file." Save the file as CSV.
- "The file you have chosen to upload exceeds 10 MB, which is the maximum file size we handle." Split the file.
- "The file you have chosen to upload does not contain the same number of columns in every line (failed on line: …)." Fix that line, usually a comma inside a value.
- "Invalid date format. Dates must be formatted MM/DD/YYYY or M/D/YY and the separator can either be a forward slash, a dash, or a period." or "The date '…' is not a valid date." Fix the date in that row.
- "Invalid time format. Time must be formatted either as 08:00 or 8:00 AM." Enter one start time in that row.
- "The location '…' can not be matched to any known locations." The Schedule Name doesn't match any location's Schedule Name. Correct the file or the location.
- "The organization '…' can not be matched to any known organizations." Use an associated organization's name or short name, or leave the cell blank.
- "Value is invalid (blank when required, too short, too long, invalid format, etc)." A required value is blank, or a Schedule Name is over 15 characters or a team name over 30.
Messages on the Status page or in the email (the import failed)
- "Invalid division configuration. On the Division | 1 Configuration page, validate regular schedule is checked and the first game start date is entered." (or the 2nd half version) Check Regular or 2nd Half and enter the Day of First Game on 1 Configuration, save, and import again. Nothing was imported.
- "Invalid division configuration. You are attempting to load one or more games with dates earlier than the division start date configuration." A game is before the Day of First Game. Fix the date, or move the Day of First Game earlier if the division has no schedule yet, and import again. No games were added, but teams and time slots the import created before this check stay in the division: check 2 Teams and 3 Time Slots.
- "Division schedule already exists." You chose Create New, but the division already has that schedule. Choose Add to Existing, or delete the schedule first.
- "Division schedule does not exists." You chose Add to Existing, but the division has no schedule of that type. Choose Create New.
Good to know
- To add games to the regular season, use Add to Existing with the Schedule Type Regular. Choose 2nd Half only for the division's separate 2nd Half schedule.
- For one or two games, Add Game on 4 Create Schedule is quicker than an import.
- There's no import for Team Site events. Team staff add them one at a time with Add Event on the team site's Events page.
- If Division Schedule Import isn't on the Import Data page, your admin role doesn't include it. Ask an admin who manages users.
