To sell items online, create each item as a Buy Item, add it to the Store storefront on Programs > Store/Donations Setup, and then add the standard Store page to your website's menu in Content > Configurations > Site Pages. Anyone can browse your Store, but shoppers sign in to check out.
Applies to: Org admins · All plans (Inventory needs Enhanced, Elite or Enterprise) · Legacy content editor
Where: Programs > Configurations > Buy Items/Add-Ons; Programs > Store/Donations Setup; Programs > Configurations > Store/Donations; Content > Configurations > Site Pages
Step 1: Create the items you'll sell
- Go to Programs > Configurations > Buy Items/Add-Ons, or click Manage Buy Items on Store/Donations Setup.
- Click Add Buy Item.
- Enter the Item Name, Item Description and Item Cost. To let buyers choose the amount, set Variable Cost to Yes and enter a Lowest Cost and Highest Cost instead.
- Upload an Item Image (270 x 270 pixels works best). Until you upload one, the item uses a placeholder picture.
- For sizes or colors, set Variation 1 to Yes and type what it is, such as Size. Use Variation 2 for a second choice, such as Color, and Text Input for something the buyer types, such as a name to print.
- Click Save.
- If you turned on a variation, open the item's Variations tab and add each choice, such as Small, Medium and Large.
What you'll see: "The Buy Item has been added." The item also has tabs such as Additional Images and Inventory.
Step 2: Add the items to your Store
- Go to Programs > Store/Donations Setup.
- In Storefront, choose Store.
- Click Add Item.
- In Buy Item, choose the item. In Category, choose a category, or leave it empty to list the item under No Category.
- Click Add. You'll see "(item name) has been successfully added".
What you'll see: your Store items grouped by category. From here you can:
- Set the order: drag a row up or down. Your Store page lists items in the same order. Drag an item onto another category to move it there.
- Feature an item: click its checkbox icon (Toggle Show as Featured) to show it in a Featured Items strip at the top of the Store page.
- Remove an item: click the red X (Remove from store or donations page) and confirm. The Buy Item itself isn't deleted.
To create categories, click Categories, then Add Category. Type the name (up to 25 characters), choose the Storefront and click Add. Drag categories to set their order.
Step 3: Choose the Store's settings
Go to Programs > Configurations > Store/Donations, change any of these and click Save ("Configurations have been saved."):
- Store Expand Category: Yes opens every category on the Store page. No (the default) shows only the category names until the shopper clicks one.
- Req Payment Type: Credit Card makes shoppers pay for Store items by card, so pay-by-check and your other payment options don't appear at checkout. Not Applicable keeps your usual payment options. With it, shoppers can also pay by check or with your Other payment type whenever Enable Checks? or Enable Other? is Yes on Programs > Configurations > General.
- Order Copy To: email addresses, separated by commas, that get a copy of every Store and Donations order.
Step 4: Add the Store page to your website
- Go to Content > Configurations > Site Pages.
- Right-click Menu Pages (or a page group), point to Add Standard Page and click Store. It's added at the bottom of the group.
- Drag Store to where you want it in your menu. To rename it, double-click it, type the new name and click outside it.
- Click Save. You'll see "The changes to your menus have been saved."
What you'll see: Store in your website's menu, listing your items. The public sees Store items only after this page is on your site.
Add instructions to the top of the Store page (optional)
- Go to Content > Page Edit.
- In Page to Edit, choose Store Page - Instructions Section (listed under Sections).
- Type your instructions, such as pickup times or sizing notes, and click Save. You'll see "Page content updated."
If it doesn't work
- Store isn't in the Add Standard Page list. The Store page is already in Site Pages, for example under Standalone Pages or Archived Pages. Drag it into Menu Pages and click Save. Organizations without registration don't have a Store page.
- You can't open Site Pages or Page Edit. Your admin role doesn't include the Content menu. Ask an admin who has it to add the page for you.
- Visitors see "No store items available at this time -- check back again soon!" No items are on the Store storefront yet. Add them on Store/Donations Setup with Storefront set to Store.
- "Buy Item field required." Choose an item in Buy Item before clicking Add.
- An item isn't in the Buy Item list. It's already on this storefront, or it hasn't been created on Buy Items/Add-Ons yet.
- Store Page - Instructions Section isn't in Page to Edit. Ask TeamSideline support to add it to your site.
- An item shows "Out of Stock". Inventory is turned on for the item and none is left. Add stock on the item's Inventory tab. A shopper who asks for more than you have sees "There is only (number) available item(s)."
- Shoppers see "Please enter a valid quantity for at least one store item." They need to enter a Qty (or an Amount for a variable-cost item) before clicking Add To Cart. Items with a variation or text input also need that filled in, for example "Please select a Size."
- The delete icon is grayed out. A Buy Item that's in the Store or used as an add-on can't be deleted, so remove it from the Store first. A category that still has items can't be deleted, so move its items first.
Good to know
- Shoppers don't need to sign in to browse. They click Add To Cart, Add & Checkout or Checkout, and anyone who isn't signed in sees "Please sign in to complete your enrollment or order." at checkout. There's no guest checkout for the Store: the Guest Checkout setting on Store/Donations applies to the Donations storefront only.
- Inventory, on a Buy Item's Inventory tab, is included with the Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans.
- The Coupons button on Store/Donations Setup lets you create discount codes for Store items.
- A Buy Item's own Order Copy To field sends copies of the orders for that item only.
- To see what sold, run Reports > Report Exports > Store/Donation Detail.
- The same Buy Item can be a Store item and a program add-on.
- Donations work the same way: choose Storefront = Donations and add the standard Donations page.
- If your website uses Editor 2.0, set up the items the same way, then add the Store page in the website editor (see the first related article).
