Admins add a second parent or guardian from the customer's Account Overview with Add Parent. Families do it themselves from My Account > Members > Add Parent. Each parent needs an email address that no one else in your organization uses; if the second parent already has their own account with you, merge the two accounts instead.
Applies to: Admins and account holders · All plans (admins need the Add Parent/Player permission) · Organizations that register youth participants (not adult-only registration sites)
Where: Admins: Customers > Account Management > Search > (account) > Account Overview > Add Parent. Families: My Account > Members > Add Parent
Add a parent as an admin
- Go to Customers > Account Management > Search.
- Search for the account holder and click their name to open the Account Overview.
- Click Add Parent.
- Enter the parent's Email Address, First Name and Last Name. Check Same As Primary? to use the primary account holder's address, or enter the Street Address and City, State, Zip. Fill in any other required fields.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: "New Account added. If an Email Address was provided and they do not have a TeamSideline Account, a TeamSideline account was created and an Email sent with their temporary password." The parent is now listed in the account's members.
Add a parent as a family
- Sign in on your organization's website and go to My Account > Members.
- Click Add Parent.
- Enter the parent's Email Address, First Name and Last Name, and their address (or check Same As Primary?) and phone.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: the Members page lists the new person with "(Parent or Guardian)" after their name. Members is for your own family only, not for your team's players.
What the added parent sees
- The added parent signs in on your organization's website with the email address on their parent record. They see the same family account, with its members, registrations and order history, and can register family members.
- If that email address had no TeamSideline login yet, one is created. When an admin adds the parent, TeamSideline also sends them a welcome email. When a family member adds the parent, no email is sent; the new parent clicks Forgot your password? on the sign-in page to set a password. At their first sign-in, TeamSideline also sends a "Validate your Email" email; they click its link to confirm the address.
- If they already have a TeamSideline login with that email (for example, from another organization), they sign in with their existing password.
- A parent added without an email address is listed on the account but can't sign in.
Remove a parent or change the primary account holder
- Admins: on the Account Overview, click the member's Delete Member icon. It's grayed out ("This member cannot be deleted.") for the primary account holder and for anyone with an enrollment or an active membership. Deleting needs the Delete Parent/Player permission.
- Make the second parent the primary: on the Account Overview, click the parent's Edit Member icon, then Make Primary. You'll see "Member updated as primary." The previous primary becomes a regular parent on the account.
- Families: on My Account > Members, Delete Member is grayed out for the primary account holder, for anyone with an enrollment and for yourself. Only an admin can change the primary account holder.
If it doesn't work
- "This email address is already in use by one of your existing account members. Please access the existing member instead of creating a new member or use a unique email address for this new member." A parent with that email already exists in your organization, on this account or on another one. If the second parent registered on their own, merge the two accounts instead (see Related articles), or use a different email address.
- "Email Address is required." Your organization requires an email for every parent (Customers > Configurations > General > Email set to Required).
- "The format of the Email Address you entered has a problem." Retype the address instead of pasting it, and check for typos.
- The Add Parent button is grayed out (admins). Your admin role doesn't include the Add Parent/Player permission.
- There's no Add Parent button or Members page. Your organization is set up for adult-only registration, where each adult has their own account.
- The second parent signs in but doesn't see the family. They must sign in on your organization's website with the exact email address on their parent record. Check it with Edit Member on the Account Overview.
Good to know
- Two parents can't share one email address in your organization.
- The parent email is optional unless your organization sets Email to Required on Customers > Configurations > General. Parents without an email don't receive TeamSideline emails.
- To register another adult on the same account, such as a parent joining an adult program, add them with Add Parent. They then appear as an Enrollee for adult programs when the account registers.
