On the family's Account Overview, click the red X (Delete Member) next to the person under Account Members, then click OK. The X is grayed out while the person is the primary account holder, has an accepted or waitlisted registration of their own (past seasons included) or has an active membership, so clear that first.
Applies to: Org admins with the Delete Parent/Player permission, and account holders · All plans · Family (customer) accounts
Where: Customers > Account Management > Search > (customer) > Account Overview > Account Members. Families: My Account > Members
Remove a parent or player as an admin
- Go to Customers > Account Management > Search, find the family and click a name to open the Account Overview.
- Under Account Members, find the person and point to the red X (Delete Member) in their row. If it's grayed out, see the next section.
- Click the red X.
- Click OK on "Are you sure you want to delete the Member "(name)"?".
What you'll see: "The Member has been deleted." The person is no longer listed under Account Members.
Why the delete X is grayed out
Point to the grayed-out X to see the reason.
| Reason | What to do |
|---|---|
| "This member cannot be deleted." The person is the primary account holder. | Make another parent the primary first: click Edit Member next to that parent, then Make Primary ("Member updated as primary."). If there's no other parent, add one with Add Parent first. |
| "This member cannot be deleted." The person has an accepted or waitlisted registration of their own. | Registrations from past seasons count; canceled ones don't. Cancel the person's remaining registrations on the Enrollments tab: Edit Enrollment, then the Cancel tab (Refund Type No Refund moves no money). For a parent, only their own registrations count, such as a volunteer or coach sign-up or a sponsorship. Their children's registrations don't. |
| "This member cannot be deleted." The person has an active membership. | On the Memberships tab, open the membership's More Options menu, choose Cancel Membership/Auto Renew and click Cancel Membership. |
| "You do not have permissions to delete members." | Your admin role doesn't include the Delete Parent/Player permission. Ask an admin who manages users. |
Once nothing blocks it, the X turns red and you can delete the member.
Families: remove a member from your own account
- Sign in on your organization's website and go to My Account > Members.
- Click the red X (Delete Member) next to the person.
- Click OK to confirm.
What you'll see: "The Member has been deleted."
For families, the X is grayed out, with no reason shown, for the primary account holder, for anyone with an accepted or waitlisted registration, and for the parent who is signed in. Only an admin can change the primary account holder, so a family that needs one of these people removed asks the organization.
What deleting a member does
- The person is removed from the family account. A removed parent no longer sees the family's members, registrations or orders.
- Their TeamSideline sign-in still works. If a removed parent signs in on your website again, TeamSideline creates a new, empty account for them.
- Deleting doesn't refund anything or change the account balance.
- Deleting a player doesn't move them to another family. To move a member and their registrations to another family's account, contact TeamSideline Support: staff can move specific members and their registrations from one account to another.
- To put someone back, add them again with Add Parent or Add Player on the Account Overview.
- On the Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans, each deletion is recorded in the Activity Log (Administration > Manage Users > Activity Log).
If it doesn't work
- The X is still grayed out after you canceled a registration. The person has another accepted or waitlisted registration, possibly from an earlier season or on a waitlist, or an active membership. Check the Enrollments and Memberships tabs.
- A family says they can't delete someone. Open their Account Overview and point to the X to see which rule applies.
- You want to remove the whole family, not one person. Delete or deactivate the account instead. See the related articles below.
Good to know
- Every parent or guardian on an account signs in to the same family account and sees its members, registrations and orders, and your organization's emails go to each of them. There's no view-only or "no contact" setting for one parent, so if a parent shouldn't have that access, remove them from the account.
- Changing the primary account holder, and removing the former primary afterward, are covered step by step in the primary account holder article below.
