To add a link on your Editor 2.0 website, select the text, picture, button or container you want to link in the Site Editor, open its link setting, and use the Link Picker to choose where it goes: another page on your website, another website, a spot on a page, an email address, a phone number, a file or a pop-up. Then click Republish.
Applies to: Org admins with Site Editor access · All plans, for organizations with Editor 2.0 (the CMS module) · Editor 2.0 (CMS)
Where: Content > Site Editor > (the text, picture, button or container you're linking) > Link Picker
Open the Link Picker
You can add links to many elements, including text, images, buttons and containers. How you open the Link Picker depends on what you're linking:
- Text: highlight the words and click the link icon.
- Most widgets, such as a button or an image: the link option is on the widget's Content tab or in its settings. You can also right-click the widget and choose Edit Content.
- Some widgets show the link option in the area labeled Replace, where you manage their content.
- A container, such as a column or an advanced grid: select it, click the three-dot menu in its floating toolbar and choose Add Link. Elements inside the container can still have their own links.
Add or change a link
- Go to Content > Site Editor and open the page.
- Select the text, picture, button or container, and open the Link Picker as described above.
- Choose a link type (see the table below).
- Enter or choose where the link goes, such as the page, the web address or the email address.
- For a web address, choose any options you need, such as opening the link in a new window.
- Click Preview and try the link.
- Click Republish to put it on your live website.
| Link type | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Existing Site Page | Another page on your website. |
| Web Address | Another website, or any full web address you paste, such as one program's page on your website. |
| Anchor | A specific section or anchor point on a page. |
| Back to Top | The top of the page. |
| Scroll to Bottom | The bottom of the page, on the widgets that support it. |
| Popup | Opens one of your pop-ups, or lets you create a new one. |
| Email Address | Opens a new email to that address in the visitor's email program. |
| Click to Call | Asks the visitor's device to call that phone number. |
| File Download | Downloads a file you choose, such as a flyer or a form. |
Web Address options
- Open in a new window keeps your website open in its own tab, which suits links to other websites.
- No Follow tells search engines not to pass credit from your website to the linked page.
- Sponsored marks a paid or sponsor link, such as a sponsor's logo that links to the sponsor's website.
- User Generated Content (UGC) marks a link that comes from content other people wrote.
Link to a program, a schedule or your Store
The pages that show one program or one division's schedule need that program's or division's number at the end of their address. Link to them with Web Address and the full address, not with Existing Site Page.
- One program's registration page: on your live website, open the program's More Info page and copy the address from your browser. It ends in /programdetails?programId= and a number. Paste it as a Web Address. See CMS: Link a button to a specific program's registration page.
- A division's schedule: on your live website, open the division's schedule and copy its address. It ends in /schedule?divisionid= and a number. Paste it as a Web Address.
- Your Store or Donations page: choose Existing Site Page and pick the page. See CMS: Add a Store or Donations page to your website.
What you'll see: the link works in the editor's Preview right away. Visitors can use it once you republish.
If it doesn't work
- The link goes to the wrong place. Open the Link Picker again, check the link type and the address, then click Republish.
- A program or schedule link opens an empty page. The address is missing the program's or division's number. Copy it again from the page on your live website and paste it as a Web Address.
- A link opens your home page instead of the page you meant. It points to a page of your old website, and old pages open your new home page once your new website is live. Link to the new page instead.
- A link to one of your own pages stopped working. The page's address may have changed. Choose the page again with Existing Site Page, then republish.
- You can't select the element, or it shows View Only. It's in a locked area, such as the header, the footer or a TeamSideline section. See CMS: Why can't I edit the header, footer or some page text? (View Only and locked areas).
- Visitors don't see the new link. Click Republish, then reload the page.
Good to know
- A link on a whole container may not help your website in search results. As a best practice, also put a button inside the container that links to the same place.
- The link types you see can depend on the features turned on for your website.
- In TeamSideline emails, the Links drop-down adds your website's pages, programs and schedules once your new website is live. See How to insert a link with the Links drop-down (legacy content editor and emails).
- If you change a page's address, keep the redirect the editor offers, so links to the old address still work. See CMS: Find, share or change a page's URL (and add a redirect).
