No. A player (child) record can't have its own email address or sign-in. Sign-in, emails and app access belong to the adult (parent or guardian) records on the family account. If a player needs their own access, they can sign in with a parent's login, or you can add them to the account a second time as a parent with their own email address.
Applies to: Parents and admins · All plans · Organizations that register youth players (adult-only registration sites have no Members page or Add Parent)
Where: Families: My Account > Members > Add Parent. Admins: Customers > Account Management > Search > (account) > Account Overview > Add Parent
Why player records don't have an email
- Sign-ins belong to adults. A family account is reached with the email address of a parent or guardian on it. A player on the account has a name, date of birth, gender and (where used) grade, but no email address or password.
- The TeamSideline app is for parents and guardians, coaches and officials. It doesn't support communication with youth players, because of the laws across states when communicating with minors.
- Player sign-in is a known enhancement request. See Requesting the enhancement below.
Option 1: The player uses a parent's sign-in
The simplest option is for the player to sign in to the TeamSideline app or your organization's website with a parent's email address and password. They see exactly what that parent sees, including the account's registrations, orders and payment details, so use this only if that's acceptable to you.
Option 2: Add the player as an additional parent
The player is then on the account twice: once as the player record used for registration and rosters, and once as a parent record with their own email address, sign-in and emails.
Families
- Sign in on your organization's website.
- Go to My Account > Members.
- Click Add Parent.
- Enter the player's First Name and Last Name and their own Email Address. Fill in the address (or check Same As Primary?), phone and any other required fields.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: the Members page lists the player twice, once with "(Child)" and once with "(Parent or Guardian)" after their name.
Admins
- Go to Customers > Account Management > Search.
- Search for the family and click the account holder's name to open the Account Overview.
- Under Account Members, click Add Parent.
- Enter the player's name, their own Email Address and the other required fields.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: "New Account added. If an Email Address was provided and they do not have a TeamSideline Account, a TeamSideline account was created and an Email sent with their temporary password." The player is listed under Account Members once as a player and once as "(Parent or Guardian)".
What happens next
- If the player's email address has no TeamSideline login yet, one is created. When an admin adds them, TeamSideline sends a welcome email. When a family adds them, no email is sent: the player clicks Forgot your password? on your organization's sign-in page to set a password.
- At their first sign-in, the player may see "Your email address has not been validated." and get a "Validate your Email" email. They click its link to confirm the address.
- If the address already has a TeamSideline login, for example from another organization, the player signs in with that password.
- The new parent record is added to the organization team sites of the players on the account, and gets team emails like the other parents.
If it doesn't work
- "This email address is already in use by one of your existing account members. Please access the existing member instead of creating a new member or use a unique email address for this new member." A parent record in your organization, on this account or another one, already uses that address. If the player already has their own account with your organization, ask the organization to merge the two accounts instead. Don't change another account's email address to get around this.
- There's no Members page or Add Parent button. Your organization registers adults only, so each adult has their own account.
- The Add Parent button is grayed out (admins). Your admin role doesn't include the Add Parent/Player permission.
- The player signs in and sees an empty account. They signed in with an address that isn't on their parent record. Sign out and sign in with the address you entered.
Good to know
- Do this on your organization's website in a web browser. The TeamSideline app and team sites don't have Add Parent.
- Use the player's real name and their own email address. Two parent records in an organization can't share an address.
- Keep the player record. When you register for youth programs, choose the player record as the enrollee; the parent record is for sign-in, emails and volunteering.
- A player record can't be turned into a parent record. Add the player as a parent instead.
Requesting the enhancement
If your organization wants players to have their own sign-in and app access, an organization admin can contact TeamSideline Support and ask to be added to the existing enhancement request for player app access. Support keeps the list of interested organizations to help prioritize the feature.
Related situations
- A minor needs to volunteer as a coach or assistant coach. Only parent records can register as volunteers. Add the minor as a parent on their family account, then register that parent record as a volunteer. See How To Enroll a Player as a Volunteer below.
