This training page is for new admins who build league schedules in TeamSideline. Work through the list below in order: add your locations, add your leagues, divisions and teams, create each division's game schedule, then add practices and playoffs. Each item is a short video or a step-by-step article, with a line on what it covers.
Applies to: New admins and schedulers · All plans (Auto Assign: sites with the Advanced Scheduling module) · League divisions
Where: Schedules > Locations > Manage Locations; Schedules > Leagues & Divisions; more videos under Help > Online Training in the admin side menu
Before you start
Read Scheduling overview: which scheduling type to use (Standard, Custom, Auto Assign or Manual) to decide how each division's schedule will be built. Most leagues use Standard: 1 or 2 games per week in time slots you add on the division's 3 Time Slots page.
Tip: click the Full Screen icon in the lower right corner of a video to watch it full size. If a screen in a video looks different from yours, follow the step-by-step article for that step, which matches the current screens.
Training, in order
- How to add or edit a location (field, court or gym) (article): add every field, court or gym your games and practices use, so you can pick them for time slots.
- How to Add Leagues & Divisions (video): add a league for the season, then a division for each age group or level, on Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
- How to quickly Import Team Names and Coaches into Divisions (video): load your teams, with their coaches' names and contact details, into their divisions from a spreadsheet with the Team Import on Administration > Import Data. You can also add teams one at a time on each division's 2 Teams page.
- How to create a league schedule (step by step) (article): the division's four pages in order (1 Configuration, 2 Teams, 3 Time Slots and 4 Create Schedule) and how to make the finished schedule visible on your website.
- How to make a 1 game per week schedule for an even number of teams (video): set up a division where every team plays once a week, add its time slots and create the schedule.
- How to make a 1 game per week schedule for odd team divisions - with byes (video): with an odd number of teams, one team has a bye (no game) each week.
- How to make a 1 game per week schedule for odd team divisions - with no byes (video): with an odd number of teams, every team plays every week, so each week one team plays a double header.
- How to create a 2 Game per Week Different Day Game Schedule (video): each team plays twice a week on different days, with separate time slots for Game 1 and Game 2.
- How to add a practice schedule for a division (recurring and rolling practices) (article): add a practice or a weekly series of practices for a team, or rotate the teams through practice times week by week.
- How to create a playoff bracket for a division (article): set up the division's playoff bracket, whose games go in the weeks after the regular season.
If your teams play home games at their own fields
If your league's teams come from several clubs or towns that each have home fields, the Advanced Scheduling module's Auto Assign can put each home game at the home team's field, at times the field is open, with no time slots to add. Read What is Advanced Scheduling and how to set it up (home fields, availability, Auto Assign) (article) before you add time slots to those divisions.
If it doesn't work
- There's no Create button on 4 Create Schedule. An Important Note on the page lists what's missing: the Day of First Game, at least 2 teams or enough time slots. See Why can't I create my schedule? Time slot and team requirements for the Create button.
- The Location list on 3 Time Slots is empty. Add your locations first: click Manage Locations on 3 Time Slots, or go to Schedules > Locations > Manage Locations.
- A page in a video isn't in your side menu. Your plan or your admin role doesn't include it. Ask an admin who manages users to check your role, or contact support@teamsideline.com about adding a feature to your plan.
Good to know
- More short videos are under Help > Online Training, in the Schedules section: for example the Team Import, Coach Import, Division Schedule Import and Practice Schedule Import, adding several time slots at once, and the 4 Create Schedule Toggle View. You see the videos for the features your plan and role include.
- A finished schedule isn't public until you click the division's eye icon on Schedules > Leagues & Divisions so it turns green.
Getting help
- Our Support Team can help if you get stuck: email support@teamsideline.com, or click Help > Contact Support in the admin side menu. If our support process doesn't meet your needs, ask support to escalate your question to your onboarding manager.
