How to rename a team in Team Registration programs

In Team Registration and Team Registration plus Roster programs, a team's name comes from the team's registration, so rename the team there: open the registration's Edit tab, change Team Name and click Save. The team then has the new name in its division, on schedules and standings, and on its Team Site.

Rename the team on its registration

  1. Go to Customers > Account Management > Search and search for the person who registered the team, usually the team manager.
  2. Click their name in the results to open Account Overview, then click Enrollments.
  3. Click the Edit Enrollment icon (pencil) on the team's registration. In a Team Registration plus Roster program, pick the team registration, not a player's roster registration.
  4. On the Edit tab, under Team Information, change Team Name (up to 50 characters).
  5. Click Save. You'll see "Enrollment updated."

Don't know who registered the team? Go to Reports > Report Dashboards > Team Enrollments, click Dashboard Configuration, choose the program in Program(s) and click Apply. Find the team in the Team column and click the Name on its row: the registration's Edit Enrollment page opens.

What you'll see: the new name right away on the division's 2 Teams page, on schedules and standings, and on the team's Team Site. Nobody is emailed about the change.

Teams in a program linked to a Master Program

If the program takes its teams from a Master Program (Master Team module), Team Name can't be changed on the program's registrations. Rename the team on its registration in the Master Program instead. The new name is copied to the master team and to the team in every program linked to it.

Why not rename it on 2 Teams?

On Schedules > Leagues & Divisions, a division's 2 Teams page opens each team's Edit Team page. For a team in a Team Registration or Team Registration plus Roster program, Team Name there is grayed out and shows "Team Name defined in Program Enrollment."

Admins whose role includes the Edit Team Name permission can type a new name there, but it renames only the team. The registration keeps the old name, the Team Enrollments dashboard still shows it, and the next time the registration is saved, the old name comes back. Rename on the registration to make the change stick.

If it doesn't work

  • Team Name can't be changed on the registration's Edit tab. The program is linked to a Master Program. Rename the team on its registration in the Master Program.
  • "Team Name field is required." Enter a name before you click Save.
  • There's no Edit Enrollment icon, or Save is grayed out. The registration is canceled, or your admin role doesn't include Edit Enrollment.
  • The old name came back. The team was renamed on 2 Teams, and its registration was saved afterward. Rename it on the registration.
  • "This Team name is in use. Please use a different Team name." You're on 2 Teams, and another team in the same division already has that name. The registration's Edit tab doesn't check for this, so look at the division's team names first and don't give two teams the same name.

Good to know

  • Renaming changes only the name. The team keeps its roster, games, standings and Team Site content.
  • Team managers see the Team Name on their own registration but can't change it. They ask your organization to rename the team.
