A standalone team is a Team Site that a coach, manager or parent creates on their own, with Create Team on TeamSideline.com or in the TeamSideline app. An organization team is a Team Site your organization publishes from one of its registration programs. Both have the same team pages and team chat, but only an organization team is connected to the organization's registrations, rosters, schedules and admins.
Applies to: Coaches, managers, team parents and players, and the admins of organizations whose leagues they play in · All plans · Standalone Team Sites and Team Sites published by an organization, on the web and in the TeamSideline app
Where: TeamSideline.com > Teams > Create Team, or the TeamSideline app > Teams > + (standalone team); Programs > Manage Programs > (program) > 5 Team Sites (organization team)
The difference at a glance
| Standalone team | Organization team | |
|---|---|---|
| Who creates it | Anyone with a TeamSideline account | Your organization's admins, from a registration program |
| Roster | Its staff add and edit people by name and email address | Built from registrations: the organization assigns players and coaches, and team staff add or edit people only as the organization allows |
| League games | Its staff can add a league's games with Manage Linked Schedules | The organization publishes the division's schedule to the team |
| Connected to the organization | No. Its roster and events stay on the team, and the organization's admins don't see or manage them | Yes. Registrations, family accounts, schedules and standings all tie together |
| Who can read its chats | Its members | Its members, and the organization's admins in their Team Site Chat Log |
| Where members open it | TeamSideline.com and the TeamSideline app | The organization's website, TeamSideline.com and the TeamSideline app |
| Edit Team (name, sport, season, archive) | Its staff can | Not offered; the organization manages the team |
| Member Passes and Pitch Count | Not available | Available when the organization uses them |
What both kinds have
Both kinds of Team Site have the same pages on the web and in the TeamSideline app: Team Home, Roster, Events, Attendance, Files, Stats, Payments (fee tracking), Announcements, Links and Pictures. Both get a team chat and a staff chat in the app, and Family & Friends can follow either kind. Group chats and direct messages may not be available on a standalone team. What is on a Team Site? describes each page.
How an organization can email a standalone team
An organization's admins can't see standalone teams, but they can email the ones that linked one of the organization's league schedules. On Communications > Send Communication, under Standalone Team Sites - Linked Schedules, they check a current league, or open it and check a division. Everyone with an email address on the standalone teams that linked that league's (or division's) schedule gets the email. A standalone team that hasn't linked one of the organization's schedules can't be reached this way. The list is on every plan, for admins whose role includes Standalone Team Sites.
If your team belongs to an organization's league
- Ask the organization whether your team is in one of its programs or leagues.
- If it is, don't build your roster on a standalone team. When the organization publishes your Team Site, sign in with the email address on its roster; the team appears under Teams on TeamSideline.com and in the app.
- If you registered your team in a team registration program, enter its roster on the organization's website: sign in and click your team's name under Manage Rosters.
- Once everyone uses the organization's Team Site, archive the standalone team on Edit Team (check Yes, archive this team and click Save), or hide it from your list of teams.
If your league doesn't publish Team Sites, keep your standalone team and add the league's games with Manage Linked Schedules on the team's Events page.
If it doesn't work
- You see two copies of your team, with different rosters. One is a standalone team and one is the organization's. They're separate teams and never sync. Use the organization's, and archive or hide the other.
- Your organization's team isn't in the app. See Why can't I see my team in the TeamSideline app?, under Related articles.
- There's no Edit Team on your team. It's an organization team, the team is archived, or you aren't on its staff.
- Add To Roster is grayed out on your organization's team. Your organization doesn't let team staff change rosters. Ask for the change through the Contact Us page on its website.
Good to know
- A standalone team can't be linked to or moved into an organization's program. When the organization publishes a Team Site for your team, it's a new team with its own roster.
- One TeamSideline account works for both: TeamSideline.com and the app list your standalone and organization teams together.
- There's no button to delete a standalone team. Archive it, or ask TeamSideline Support to remove it.
