When a By Standings playoff bracket shows a seed placeholder like "1st" instead of the actual team, it means the system does not yet have everything it needs to resolve that seed into a team. The bracket only populates team names once the feeding results are known.
Check these items in order:
- Confirm all regular-season scores are entered. A By Standings bracket only populates team names after the regular season is completely scored. Even one missing score will leave seeds unresolved. Enter every missing score on the Standings page.
- Check game dispositions. Make sure none of your regular-season or playoff games have a disposition of "Not Played." If any do, open the game on the Standings page, click Edit Score, and change the Disposition to "Score not Kept" or "Canceled," then Save.
- Enter scores for feeder games in the bracket itself. A later-round slot (for example a game fed by "Winner of G3") will keep showing a placeholder until the feeder games have scores entered.
- Verify the seeding source. On the Division 1 Configuration page, confirm whether Playoff Seeding is set to Manual or By Standings. If it is Manual, you must select the team names yourself on the 4 Create Schedule page — they will not fill in automatically.
If a placeholder stays "stuck" after scores are entered
Occasionally a bracket can end up with a seed placeholder that will not resolve even though scores appear to be in — for example when pre-playoff tie-breaker ("pig-tail") games or manual standings changes are involved. If you have confirmed all scores and dispositions and the placeholder still will not populate:
- Open the Standings page and use Edit Standings to confirm the standing order is correct (this is what feeds a By Standings bracket).
- As a workaround that support has used, you can remove the score from the affected game, correct the team name, then re-enter the score.
- If it still will not resolve, contact TeamSideline Support with the League & Division name and the correct matchups. Support can review the activity log and troubleshoot the bracket directly.
For "Manual" playoff brackets you must enter the teams in individually.
