How you change a team's name depends on where the team came from. A team you created yourself is renamed on TeamSideline with Edit Team. A team your organization published from a program is renamed by the organization's admins: on 2 Teams for individual registration programs, or on the team's registration for Team Registration programs. The change is immediate.

Which way applies to your team

If your Team Site came from your organization, there's no Edit Team option on it: contact your organization and ask them to change the name.

Rename a team you created yourself

1. Sign in to TeamSideline on the web.
2. Click Teams, then click the Edit icon (pencil) on your team's row. You can also open the team and click Edit Team.
3. Change Team Name.
4. Click Save. You'll see "Team updated."

Only the team's staff (Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Parent, Site Coordinator or Manager) can edit the team.

Rename a team in an individual registration program (admins)

1. Go to Schedules > Leagues & Divisions.
2. On the team's division, click the More Options icon and choose 2 Teams.
3. Click the Edit icon (pencil) on the team's row.
4. Change Team Name.
5. Click Save. You'll see "The Team Information has been updated successfully."

Rename a team in a Team Registration program (admins)

In Team Registration and Team Registration plus Roster programs, the team name comes from the team manager's registration, and 2 Teams shows "Team Name defined in Program Enrollment." next to it. Change the Team Name on that registration in the manager's account; the steps are in How to Edit a Team Name in Team Registration and Team + Roster Registration Programs. Team managers can't change the name on their own registration, so they ask your organization.

What you'll see

The change is immediate: the new name shows right away on the team's Team Site, on its calendar and on your schedules. Nobody is emailed about it.

If it doesn't work

• There's no Edit Team or Edit icon on the Team Site. The team was published by your organization from a program, so only the organization can rename it; or you're not one of the team's staff. The TeamSideline app can't rename an organization's team either.
• The Team Name box on 2 Teams is grayed out, with "Team Name defined in Program Enrollment." It's a Team Registration program. Change the name on the team manager's registration instead. Admins whose role includes the Edit Team Name permission can type the name on 2 Teams, but see Good to know.
• There's no Edit icon on 2 Teams. The league is archived, or your admin role doesn't include editing teams. Ask an admin with the Administrator role.
• "This Team name is in use. Please use a different Team name." Another team in the same division already has that name. Choose a different name.
• "Team Name is required." Enter a name before you click Save.

Good to know

• In a Team Registration program, renaming the team on 2 Teams doesn't change the manager's registration, which keeps the old name. If that registration is edited and saved later, the old name comes back. Change it on the registration to make it stick.
• A team name can be up to 50 characters.
• Renaming doesn't change the team's roster, schedule or Team Site content.
