To let people who aren't on the roster, such as grandparents, follow your teams, sign in at TeamSideline.com, open Family & Friends, enter their first name, last name and email, and click Add. They'll see game and event times, locations and directions, but not roster contact details, team chat or team messages, so a parent or guardian who needs full access should be added to the family account instead.
Applies to: Parents, players and coaches on a team roster, and the family and friends they invite · All plans · Team Sites on TeamSideline.com and the TeamSideline app
Where: TeamSideline.com > Family & Friends (TeamSideline app: Account > Family and Friends)
Invite someone
- Sign in at TeamSideline.com, or open your team site from your organization's website.
- In the menu, click Family & Friends.
- Under Add Family or Friend, enter their First Name, Last Name and Email.
- Click Add.
What you'll see: "Your request to add a new member to your list of linked members is being processed. An invitation has been sent to the email address you entered." The person is listed under My Family & Friends with "(name) has not accepted the invitation yet." until they accept, then "Accepted on (date)".
In the TeamSideline app, go to Account > Family and Friends, tap the add button, enter First Name, Last Name and Email, and tap Add.
What the person you invite does
- They open the email "(your name) Has Invited You! | TeamSideline.com" and click its link.
- They see "Your new Family & Friends linkage is complete. Your calendar will display any events from Family & Friends activities."
- If they've never used TeamSideline Team Sites, they also see "If this is your first visit to TeamSideline Team Sites, click the "Forgot your password?" link to establish a password." They set a password that way on the TeamSideline.com sign-in page, then sign in with their email address.
Your teams then appear under F&F Teams on their All Teams page, by sport, and under Family & Friend Teams in their Teams menu. Clicking a team opens its team site. They can also sign in to the TeamSideline app with the same email and password. If they already use TeamSideline and missed the email, they can sign in and click Accept Invitation on their own Family & Friends page, under My Invitations From Other Members.
What Family & Friends can and can't do
| They can | They can't |
|---|---|
| Follow every current team you're on, not just one | See roster members' email addresses or phone numbers |
| Open Team Home, Events, Roster (names only) and Stats, and see game and event times, locations and directions | Use Attendance, Files, Payments or the team staff's pages |
| Get an email reminder before each game, when you get reminders and haven't hidden the team | Get messages the coach sends to the team from the team site |
| Get your organization's game change emails, when it sends them to team rosters | Use the team chat in the app or answer attendance polls |
Manage your Family & Friends
- Resend an invitation: click [Resend Invitation] under Invitation Status. You'll see "The invitation email will be resent to (name)." The link isn't shown when the address has a red flag, which means TeamSideline isn't emailing it.
- Remove someone: click the red X next to them and click OK on "Are you sure you want to delete "(name)" from your list of Family & Friends?". They get an email saying you removed the connection.
- Change someone's email address: there's no way to edit it. Remove them, then invite the new address.
- Stop following someone's teams: the invited person clicks the red X next to the inviter under My Invitations From Other Members on their own Family & Friends page.
If it doesn't work
- "You cannot link the email address you are using in your Profile as a linked Family & Friend member." You entered your own sign-in address. Enter the other person's address.
- "You already have a linked member with this email address." They're already in My Family & Friends. Use Resend Invitation instead.
- "The format of the Email Address you entered has a problem." Type the address again instead of pasting it.
- "You cannot delete this relationship. Access is denied." You're signed in with a TeamSideline account that didn't send or receive that invitation. Sign in with the account that did, then remove the connection.
- The invitation never arrived. Ask them to check spam and junk folders, then use Resend Invitation. If the address has a red flag, invite another address of theirs.
- They accepted but see no teams. They follow only your current teams, so you must be on a current team site's roster. If you are, remove them and invite them again.
- They need team chat, team messages, attendance or contact details. Family & Friends can't get those. A parent or guardian needs to be added to the family account (see below).
Family & Friends or a second parent?
- The Family & Friends page itself says: "Do not use this page for Team Roster (Parents, Players, Staff) members". Family & Friends is a separate connection, not a spot on the roster, so people who join this way can't act as team members.
- A parent or guardian who needs full access is added to the family account: the account holder signs in on the organization's website and uses My Account > Members > Add Parent, or asks the organization. Each parent on the account then gets the team sites published for the children on it.
- Accepting a Family & Friends invitation only sets up a TeamSideline sign-in. It doesn't add the person to the organization's family account, so there's no My Account profile or email for them to change there.
- On an organization's team sites, Family & Friends never see roster contact information, whatever the organization's Privacy setting.
Good to know
- Family & Friends follow your teams through you. When a team's season is archived, or you're no longer on its roster, they stop seeing it.
- Anyone with a TeamSideline sign-in can invite Family & Friends; the organization doesn't approve invitations. Your organization can't see or remove these connections either, so you or the person you invited removes one (see Manage your Family & Friends).
