Anyone with a TeamSideline account can start a team of their own. On the web, click Teams > Create Team, fill in the team's details and click Create; in the TeamSideline app, tap + on your Teams. You're added to the team as staff, then you add your players, parents and coaches to its Roster and send the team a Communication. A team you create this way is a standalone Team Site: it isn't linked to any organization's registration program.
Applies to: Coaches, managers, team parents and anyone organizing a team · Any TeamSideline account (no organization or plan needed) · Standalone Team Sites on the web and in the TeamSideline app
Where: TeamSideline.com > Sign In > Teams > Create Team, or the TeamSideline app > Teams > +
Before you start
- Make sure your team doesn't already have a site. If your team plays in an organization's league or program, the organization may publish a Team Site for it. That site appears under Teams once you're on its roster with the email address you sign in with. A team you create is a separate site, and its roster and schedule aren't shared with the organization's.
- Sign in with the email address your team knows. If you don't have a TeamSideline account yet, click Create a new account on the sign-in page. The same account works on TeamSideline.com, on your organization's website and in the app.
Create the team on the website
- Sign in at TeamSideline.com.
- In the footer under Quick Links, click Team Site Sign In, log in or create an account then click Teams > Create Team.
- Enter the Team Name, up to 50 characters.
- Choose the Sport Type, the Gender (Boys/Men, Girls/Women or Co-Ed/All Gender) and the Age Group.
- Under Season Name, choose Year and Season and enter the year and a season such as Fall, Spring II or Annual. Or choose Start and End date and pick both dates.
- Under Your Role, check your role or roles: Player, Manager, Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Parent or Site Coordinator. Site Coordinator is already checked; it lets you manage the team's site.
- Choose the Default Response ("Default poll response with no update"): the attendance answer shown for members who haven't answered an event's attendance poll. It's No Response unless you change it.
- Optional: in Copy Roster From, choose one of your earlier teams to copy its players, parents and staff into the new team. Leave Do Not Copy to start with only you on the roster.
- Click Create.
What you'll see: your new team's Team Home, with "Your team has successfully been created. Click the Roster Tab to add players and staff to your list of Team members." The team is listed under Teams, with you on its roster as staff.
Create the team in the TeamSideline app
- Open the TeamSideline app and go to your Teams.
- Tap + to add a team.
- Enter the team's name, and choose its sport type, gender, age group (Adult or Youth), season and year.
- Choose your role. Pick a staff role, such as Coach, Manager or Site Coordinator, so you can manage the team.
- Optional: choose one of your teams to copy its roster from.
- Tap Add and confirm.
What you'll see: the new team in your current teams. It's the same team you see under Teams on the website.
Add your team and tell them about it
Creating the team doesn't email anyone, and neither does adding people to its roster. Add everyone first, then send the team a Communication: anyone whose email address has no TeamSideline account yet gets a note in it asking them to register.
- On your team, click Roster, then Add To Roster.
- Enter the person's First Name, Last Name and Email Address, check their Role(s) and click Save. On a youth team, add the players first, then add each parent and choose their child in Parent of.
- When everyone is on the roster, click Communications > Send Communications.
- Choose your team in Team and Entire Team in To, enter a Subject and a Message, and click Send.
Each person sees the team once they sign in with the email address you entered for them. The full steps, and what your team members do next, are in How to invite parents and players to your standalone team (send the team a Communication), under Related articles.
Your team isn't linked to an organization
- It isn't part of any organization's registration program. Its roster and events stay on your team's site: they don't appear on an organization's rosters, admin site or website, and the organization doesn't manage them.
- To show your league's games on your team, open the team's Events page and click Manage Linked Schedules. Once you link a league's schedule, that league's organization can include your team's members when it emails the teams linked to its league.
- If an organization publishes a Team Site for your team, it's a separate team under Teams, linked to the organization's program. Use that site for the season rather than keeping two rosters.

If it doesn't work
- "Team Name is required.", "Sport Type is required.", "Gender is required." or "Age Group is required." Fill in that field and click Create again.
- "A valid year is required." or "A valid Season Name is required." With Year and Season chosen, enter a four-digit year (2000 or later) and choose a season.
- "A valid start date is required.", "A valid end date is required." or "The start date must be prior to the end date." With Start and End date chosen, pick both dates, the start date first.
- "At least one role must be selected." Check at least one box under Your Role.
- An earlier team isn't listed in Copy Roster From. On the website, the list shows only teams where you were staff, not teams where you were only a player or a parent. Add the people with Add To Roster instead.
- You can't add anyone to your new team. You aren't on its roster as staff, for example because you chose Player in the app. Open the team on the website: Team Home shows "No staff members to manage this team site:" with a Promote Me button. Click it to become the team's Site Coordinator.
Good to know
- On the website, if you check only Player under Your Role, TeamSideline also makes you the team's Site Coordinator so you can manage it.
- To change the team's name, sport or season later, open the team and click Edit Team.
- When the season is over, archive the team: on Edit Team, check Yes, archive this team under Archive and click Save. You'll see "Your team has been archived successfully." The team moves to your archived teams, and nothing on it can be changed after that.
- For a new season, create a new team and choose the old one in Copy Roster From; archived teams are listed too. Copying doesn't email anyone, so send the team a Communication afterward.
- There's no button to delete a team you created. To have one removed, contact TeamSideline Support.
- Grandparents and other fans who aren't on the roster can follow the team with Family & Friends.
- Team chat is in the TeamSideline app; the website has no chat.
