To let TeamSideline email an address again, go to Communications > Email Filters, search for the full email address, and click the red X next to its filter. Check why the filter was added first: a filter for a misspelled address comes back with the next email, and an unsubscribe should be removed only when the person asks.
Applies to: Org admins whose role includes Email Filters · All plans · Legacy and Editor 2.0 websites
Where: Communications > Email Filters
Remove a filter
- Go to Communications > Email Filters.
- In Email Address, type the whole address exactly as it appears on the account, and click Search. Part of an address finds nothing.
- Check the Email Filter column to see why the address was filtered, and use the table below before you delete anything.
- Click the red X (Delete) in the row of the filter that has no Deleted Date.
- Click OK on "Are you sure you want to delete the Email Filter for "(address)"?".
What you'll see: "The Email Filter has been deleted." The row stays in the list with today's date under Deleted Date, as a record. Once no other filter is active, the red flag next to the address goes away on account pages and rosters, and new emails go to the address. Emails held back while the filter was on aren't resent.
If the search shows "There are no filters associated to this email address.", the address isn't filtered for your organization, so something else is stopping the emails. See Why Am I Not Receiving TeamSideline Emails? below.
What each filter means, and what to check first
| Email Filter | Why it was added | Before you delete it |
|---|---|---|
| Bad | An email to the address bounced: the receiving mail server rejected it, usually because the address is misspelled or no longer exists. | Check the spelling. If the address is wrong, correct it on the person's account (Customers > Account Management) instead. A wrong address bounces again, and the next email adds a new Bad filter. |
| Opt Out | Someone clicked an unsubscribe link in an email sent to the address. | Delete it only when the person asks you to. |
| Email recipient flagged email as spam (may show as Marked As Spam) | The person's email provider reported that they marked a TeamSideline email as spam. Emails to the address stop until the filter is deleted. | Confirm the person wants your emails, and ask them to mark TeamSideline emails as not spam. |
| Blocked | A spam filter or firewall is blocking TeamSideline emails, often for everyone at a school or company. | Ask the person, or their IT department, to allow TeamSideline emails. |
| Mailbox Full | Emails came back because the mailbox was full. | Ask the person to make room in their mailbox. |
An Opt Out from your organization's own unsubscribe link stops only your organization's emails. An Opt Out from a TeamSideline.com email, such as a team-site message or a game reminder, stops every organization's emails to that address, and deleting it here restarts them all. The list doesn't say which kind it is, so ask the person.
Members can remove their own filter
- When a member with a filter signs in on your website, they see "Your email address is currently not receiving emails. Click My Profile under My Account to make changes to your email address or to remove the filter by clicking the Email Address edit button."
- They go to My Account > My Profile, click Edit next to their Email Address, and delete the filter with the red X.
- An unsubscribe from a TeamSideline.com email doesn't show on My Profile on your website. The member removes it at TeamSideline.com (their name at the top of the page, then Edit next to Email Address), or you can delete it here when they ask.
If it doesn't work
- The red flag came back. Another email to the address bounced and added a new Bad filter. Check the address for typos, correct it on the account, or ask the person for an address that works.
- A filter has no red X. That filter was already deleted; its Deleted Date shows when. Only filters without a Deleted Date can be deleted.
- The person still doesn't get your emails. Only new emails are sent; nothing held back earlier is resent. Search the address again for another active filter, ask the person to check their spam or junk folder, and check the Filter Type column for them in Communications > Communication Logs after your next email.
- Many addresses got red flags right after one email. Contact TeamSideline Support before you remove them, so they can look into what happened.
- You don't see Email Filters under Communications. Your admin role doesn't include it. Ask an admin who manages users in your organization.
Good to know
- A filter belongs to the email address, not to one person, so it applies to every account and roster that uses the address.
- Bad, Blocked, Mailbox Full and spam filters, and opt-outs from TeamSideline.com emails, stop that address's emails from every organization that uses TeamSideline. Deleting one here lets every organization email the address again.
- There's no bulk removal. Search for and delete each address on its own; unsubscribes in particular are each person's own choice.
- You can't add a filter or unsubscribe someone on this page. To stop emailing someone, see How unsubscribing works and how to remove someone from your organization's emails below.
- Email filters don't affect text messages.
- On Enhanced, Elite and Enterprise plans, each deleted filter is recorded in the Activity Log.
