To add attendance polls to the league games and practices on your Team Sites, go to Programs > Configurations > Team Sites, set Game Poll and Practice Poll to Yes, choose a Default Response and click Save. Each poll needs its reminder turned on, because the poll is emailed with the event's reminder.
Applies to: Org admins whose role includes the Team Sites configuration page · All plans · Team Sites published from a program's 5 Team Sites page
Where: Programs > Configurations > Team Sites, or the Team Sites Configuration button on a program's 5 Team Sites page
Turn on attendance polls
- Go to Programs > Configurations > Team Sites.
- Under Events, set Game Reminder to the number of days before a game that its reminder email goes out: 0 sends it on the day of the game, and 1 to 7 that many days before. Games can't have a poll while it's Off.
- Set Game Poll to Yes.
- For practices, set Practice Reminder the same way, and Practice Poll to Yes.
- In Default Response, choose how a player who hasn't answered is counted: Attending, Not Attending, Maybe or No Response.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Configurations have been saved." League games and practices on your Team Sites get a column on each team's Attendance page, and their reminder emails include the poll.
Which events get a poll
- League games and practices on all your Team Sites, including sites already published. Game Poll and Practice Poll are defaults, so an event keeps its own setting once team staff change its reminder or poll, its reminder email has gone out, or someone has answered its poll.
- Events team staff add themselves start without a poll, and no setting turns one on for them. Staff tick Enable attendance tracking. under Poll when they add or edit the event on the team's Events page, or switch on Enable Attendance in the TeamSideline app.
- Games from another organization's schedule, which a team shows through Manage Linked Schedules, follow that organization's Game Poll setting.
- Your organization's calendar events shown on team sites never have a poll.
Team staff can turn the poll on or off for any single game or practice: on the team's Events page, they click the event's Edit icon (pencil), tick or clear Enable attendance tracking. under Poll, and click Save. They'll see "Event updated."
Who is polled
- Only roster members with the Player role are polled. Parents answer for each of their children.
- Coaches and other team staff aren't polled unless they also have the Player role. See Why isn't a coach on the attendance poll? under Related articles.
- Players get the poll for themselves in the event's reminder email, and parents get one reminder per child, each with that child's poll. Team staff who aren't players get the reminder without a poll.
- Members can also answer on the team's Attendance page or in the TeamSideline app, and team staff can set or change anyone's answer. The most recent answer counts.
Default Response
Default Response is how a player who hasn't answered is counted ("Default poll response with no update"). With Attending, everyone who hasn't answered shows as attending on the Attendance page and in the poll results. Until you change it, it's No Response.
It's copied to each team site when the site is published, so a change applies only to team sites you publish afterward. It can't be changed for one team your organization has published.
If it doesn't work
- "The game reminder must be enabled to have a poll." or "The practice reminder must be enabled to have a poll." That reminder is Off. Set it to 0 to 7, or set the poll to No, and click Save again.
- Some games or practices still have no poll, or still have one after you turned polls off. Those events have their own setting: team staff changed it, their reminder email already went out, or someone answered their poll. Team staff can change each one on the team site.
- Games from another organization's schedule have no poll. That organization's Game Poll is No. Team staff can turn the poll on for each of those games.
- A changed Default Response didn't reach a team site. It's applied only when a site is published.
- A coach isn't on the poll. Only players are polled. Add the Player role to the coach's roster entry.
- Nobody got the poll by email yet. The poll goes out with the event's reminder, on the reminder's day, not when you click Save. Reminders also skip roster entries without an email address and people who turned off reminders or hid the team.
Good to know
- These settings apply to all your programs. There's no setting for one program or one team, but team staff can change any single event.
- Game Poll and Practice Poll are No, and Practice Reminder is Off, until you change them.
- No setting stops players or parents from answering.
- Teams that coaches create themselves on TeamSideline don't use these settings. Their staff set Default Response on the team's Edit Team page.
