Setting up Raise takes four steps: give people access, complete your Raise configuration, create a campaign, and share it. You'll find Raise in the admin menu, between Content and Reports.
Applies to: Admins with the Administrator or Fundraiser role · Raise (all plans) · Organizations with a Payrix payment gateway
Where: Raise > Configurations > General; Raise > Dashboard; Administration > Manage Users > Users
Before you begin
- You need the Administrator or Fundraiser role.
- Your organization needs a Payrix payment gateway, because Raise takes donations only through Payrix. If you don't have one yet, see How to complete the Payrix merchant application or email support@teamsideline.com.
- For a Peer-to-Peer campaign, first set up your Youth Registration or Youth Camp Registration program, with divisions and teams.
Step 1: Give staff access (optional)
Everyone with the Administrator role can already use Raise. To let someone manage Raise without full administrator access, give them the Fundraiser role:
- Go to Administration > Manage Users > Users.
- Click the pencil icon (Edit) next to the user.
- On the Roles tab, check Fundraiser, then click Save.
What you'll see: "The user has been updated." The Fundraiser role can use every Raise page, including Configurations, campaigns, and the Raise Donations and Raise P2P report dashboards. To add a new user first, see How do I add an Admin to our website?
Step 2: Complete your Raise configuration
These settings apply to every campaign, so complete them before your first campaign.
- Go to Raise > Configurations > General.
- In Payment Gateway, choose the gateway that receives Raise donations. Choose your Payrix gateway: the list shows every gateway your organization has, but Raise can only take donations through Payrix.
- In We are a registered non-profit organization, choose Yes to print your tax details on donation receipts, or No if you aren't a registered 501(c)(3).
- If you chose Yes, complete every field: Legal Organization Name (as registered with the IRS), EIN / Tax ID (9 digits, for example 12-3456789), Street Address, City, State and Zip.
- Under Default Campaign Branding, upload a Default Banner, the image across the top of your donation pages. The best size is 1200 × 300 pixels, and you can crop and rotate it after uploading. Until you upload one, the banner is solid dark blue.
- Optionally, enter a Thank You Message. It's shown to donors after they give and included on their receipt email.
- Click Save.
What you'll see: "Save Successful." The Default Banner and Thank You Message pre-fill each new campaign, and you can change them on any campaign.
Step 3: Create a campaign
- Go to Raise > Dashboard and click Create Campaign.
- Under Campaign type, choose Crowdfunding (one public page that anyone with the link can give on) or Peer-to-Peer (players fundraise on personal pages that roll up to the campaign total). Choose carefully: the type can't be changed once the campaign has been saved with Raise Campaign Active on, or once it has a donation.
- Complete Campaign basics:
| Setting | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign name | Yes | The headline on your donation page |
| Subtitle | Yes | A short line shown under the name |
| Description | Yes | Your story: why you're raising money and what it pays for, up to 1,000 characters. Link previews on social media use only the first 200 characters, so put the most important words first. |
| Goal amount | Yes | The target the progress bar measures against |
| Payment gateway | Yes | Starts as your default gateway. Pick another to use it for this campaign only. |
| Start date | Yes | The first day the campaign takes donations |
| End date | Yes | The campaign closes at 12:00 AM on this date, in your organization's time zone, so the last day to give is the day before. |
| Copy to | Yes | One email address that gets a notice of every donation, with the receipt details |
| Raise Campaign Active | No | On (the default) publishes the campaign on its start date. Off keeps it as a draft. |
- Add Donation tiers (optional). Click Add Tier, enter an Amount, add an optional Tier Name such as "Team jersey," and click Add. Repeat for each tier. Keep amounts between $1 and $10,000, since donors can't give outside that range.
- Tiers show as buttons on the donation page, lowest to highest. The second-lowest tier is selected when the page opens.
- The Allow custom donation amount switch is inside the Add Tier panel. It's on by default and lets donors type their own amount.
- Tiers are saved only when you save the campaign, so edit one campaign at a time in a single browser tab.
- Review Campaign branding. The Campaign banner and Thank-you message start from your defaults. Each campaign needs a Thank-you message, of up to 1,000 characters.
- For Peer-to-Peer only, complete Peer-to-Peer settings:
- Program (required): only Youth Registration and Youth Camp Registration programs that have teams are listed.
- Teams: every team in the program is selected at first. Remove a team with the x on its name. To include the whole program, including players not yet on a team, remove all teams.
- Default personal goal (optional): each player's goal. Without one, player pages show the amount raised but no progress bar.
- Set Donor options:
- Allow anonymous donations (on by default): donors can check "Make my donation anonymous" to appear as Anonymous in public lists.
- Show donor list (on by default): shows the five most recent supporters on the donation page.
- Click Create New Raise Campaign.
What you'll see: "The Raise Campaign was successfully created." and the Dashboard. The Dashboard opens on its Active tab, so a campaign that hasn't reached its start date, or whose Raise Campaign Active switch is off, is under Draft.
Step 4: Launch and share
A campaign's status on the Dashboard tells you whether its donation page is open:
| Status | When | What donors see |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | Raise Campaign Active is off, or the start date hasn't arrived | "This donation page is not available." |
| Active | Raise Campaign Active is on, from the start date until the end date | The donation form |
| Ended | The end date has arrived | The campaign, with "This campaign has ended. Thank you for your support." |
- Crowdfunding: on the Dashboard, click the View Public Page icon next to an active campaign. Share that page's address, or use the share buttons on the page.
- Peer-to-Peer: there's no campaign-level page. Once the campaign is active, TeamSideline emails an invitation to the primary adult on each eligible player's account, usually within a few minutes (it checks for new players every 5 minutes). Each player is invited once. Players who join later get theirs after they register, or after they're placed on a selected team. To open a player's page, go to Reports > Report Dashboards > Raise P2P (or click P2P Dashboard on the Raise Dashboard) and click the player's View Donation Page icon.
Edit or copy a campaign
- Edit: on the Dashboard, click the pencil icon (Edit), make your changes, and click Update Raise Campaign. You'll see "The Raise Campaign was successfully updated."
- A Peer-to-Peer campaign's Program locks while the campaign is active and once it has any donations.
- Copy: on the Dashboard, click Copy Campaign, choose a campaign in Campaign, and click Copy. The copy opens ready to save, with the original's settings, dates, tiers, teams, banner and Copy to address, and "(Copy)" added to its name. Raise Campaign Active is on in the copy, so check the dates and the switch before you click Create New Raise Campaign.
- Campaigns can't be deleted. To close one early, turn off Raise Campaign Active or change the end date.
If it doesn't work
- "A payment gateway is required for Raise campaigns." Your organization doesn't have a payment gateway yet, so Save is unavailable. Contact support@teamsideline.com.
- "EIN / Tax ID must be 9 digits. Example: 12-3456789." Enter the 9-digit number, with or without the dash.
- Donors see "This donation page is not available." on an active campaign. The campaign's payment gateway isn't a Payrix gateway that Raise can use. Choose your Payrix gateway in Payment gateway, or contact support@teamsideline.com.
- The donation page has no way to give. The campaign has no tiers and Allow custom donation amount is off. Add a tier or turn the switch on.
- Your program isn't in the Program list. A Peer-to-Peer campaign needs a Youth Registration or Youth Camp Registration program that isn't archived and has at least one team.
- A message such as "Thank-you message field is required." Fill in that field. Every setting marked Yes in the table is required, plus the Thank-you message and, for Peer-to-Peer, the Program.
- "Select the Campaign you want to copy." Choose a campaign in Campaign before you click Copy.
- There's no Roles tab when you edit a user. Your role can't assign roles. Ask an Administrator.
Good to know
- Raise pages are available only to the Administrator and Fundraiser roles.
- A campaign that uses your default gateway follows it if you change the default later. A gateway you pick on the campaign stays with that campaign.
- A campaign whose banner you don't change shows your current Default Banner, so a new default banner shows on those campaigns too.
- Peer-to-Peer invitations go only to the primary adult on each player's account, and only for accepted player registrations. Waitlisted and canceled registrations and volunteers aren't invited.
