After a Smart Auto Assign run, the proposed rosters wait in Step 3 until you commit or reset them. Nothing on your live rosters changes until you click Commit Assignments, and a commit can't be undone. So check the proposal first.
Read the result message
When a run ends, a message at the top of the page sums it up:
- "Smart Auto Assign is complete. 120 enrollees have been proposed for teams and 4 were left unassigned." Or, when everyone fits, "All 124 enrollees have been proposed for teams."
- "One or more divisions do not have enough teams for all of their enrollees." Add teams, or set Create missing teams to Yes, and run again.
- "Some divisions could not be processed." Contact support@teamsideline.com.
Until you commit or reset, each visit to the tab reminds you: "Commit or reset the proposed roster to finish."
Check the proposed rosters
In Step 3: Automate Roster Assignment, expand each division and team.
- Proposed people have (proposed) after their name, like "Samantha Adams - Player (8U Coach Pitch, 8, Female) (proposed)." The details in parentheses are the offering, then the age and gender, when you use those criteria.
- New teams show as Team 4 (Proposed), Team 5 (Proposed), and so on.
- Team totals show next to each team, like "(Staff: 1, Players: 12, Avg Age: 9.4, M: 6, F: 6)." Averages appear only for the criteria you set.
- People left out stay on the left. The page doesn't say why. See Troubleshooting roster assignment.
- Replace runs list people who will come off their team on the left, marked (Proposed).

Before you commit, check:
- Team sizes are even and no team is over the Roster Max.
- Each team has the coaches you expect.
- Siblings are together, if you chose Keep families together.
- No one was added to a locked roster. Smart Auto Assign doesn't check locks.
- With Replace, the right people are coming off their teams.
Commit the proposal
Click Commit Assignments. There's no confirmation, so be sure first. TeamSideline then:
- Adds any proposed teams to the division.
- Puts everyone on their proposed team.
- With Replace, takes off anyone who wasn't placed again.
- Makes a team's Coach its contact on the division's 2 Teams page, if the team has none.
A message confirms the result, like "Committed 120 AI roster assignment(s). Created 2 team(s)." No emails go to families or coaches. Afterward, use Drag & drop to make changes, and then publish team sites.
Reset the proposal
Click Reset Assignments to throw the proposal away. There's no confirmation. The message says "Discarded the AI proposal," and your rosters stay as they were. Change your setup in Step 1 or Step 2 and run again.
Making changes by hand before you commit
- You can't drag proposed people. They move only when you commit.
- You can drag other enrollees in Step 3, but those moves save right away. They aren't part of the proposal, and Reset doesn't undo them.
- Drop people onto a team, not onto a division name. Dropping on a division takes the person off their team.
It's simplest to commit or reset first, then make changes on the Drag & drop tab.
Good to know
- One proposal per program. Any admin who opens the tab can commit or reset it.
- Your setup is locked until you commit or reset, and you can't run again.
- Published team sites block both buttons. If someone publishes a team site while a proposal waits, archive it before you commit or reset.
